The Specials - The Singles Collection

The release has a good variety of The Specials' songs from their first two albums (The Specials, and More Specials) as well as songs by The Special AKA, which was formed after some of the original Specials left the band in 1981.

I must admit that it took me awhile to get used to the two tone ska sound. I bought this CD without ever hearing a single specials song, and was used to the faster and harder ska-punk of the thir wave. Thus it took me a little while to adjust to the mellower, reggae-influenced sound of the Specials. However, I have come around in my thinking and this is now one of my favorite CDs, I like it more every time I listen to it.

I would recomend this CD to anyone that has never heard two-tone ska. Standout tracks, "Guns of Navarone" and "Ghost Town". I would personally have left off the Bob Dylan cover "Maggie's Farm", but hey, I'm not in the band, so it's not my choice. Rating: 8
