The River City Rebels
Playin’ to Live, Livin’ to Play

What? You’ve never heard of a seven-member punk band? Well now you have. When I first read about these guys I assumed that they were a ska band masquerading around as punks. Well you know what happens when you assume, and I made an ass out of you and me…oh alright I just made an ass out of myself. I found out that these guys are punk to the bone and can rock out with the best of ‘em. So you still want to know what they sound like? I would describe their sound as a mix between Catch 22 and Rancid, but then I would go on to say that you would have to hear it for yourself.

So back to the album…As I said before, these guys can rock out with the best and they prove it here. Fluctuating between straight punk songs and songs well supported with their horn section they tear through the 14 tracks on this CD in just over 30 minutes. They bring out the horns for a cover of ‘53rd and 3rd’ and show that they improve on an already killer song. The song, ‘Small Town Pride’ is quite a good track with awesome punk vocals and a mellow break provided by the horns. ‘Day to Day’, ‘6 a.m.’ and ‘Life of a Rebel’ are awesome tracks as well. And you know what I’m talking about here. These songs make you want to roll your windows down, turn the stereo up, and slam on the gas pedal. So what are you waiting for?
