Gaming Cliches:
BOSSES
- Everything. Ever.
|
|
End-of-Level bosses are completely
illogical. Okay, imagine you're fighting a bad guy. You'd expect him (or her- in a 'politically correct version' ?) to pump everything they've got at you right away. But no. They leave a risk in letting you move about pretty freely for most of the game.
After Level 1 when you've single-handedly
taken out 100+ men in under 5 minutes you'd think the criminal 'mastermind' would start to realise you're pretty tough. But no. They let you have another good few hours of carnage before they begin to offer any challenge. And they only show their face at the end, by which point you've had enough practice and got enough weapons to take them down with ease.
Of course, this is a stupid argument. Bosses
provide a challenge, excitement, and anticipation;
Sometimes the best part in a game is going
through the level itself, half-thinking about your tactics for the level, half-thinking about your tactics for the boss. The sheer feeling of power you get knowing you can defeat many, many AI opponents without thinking about it, coupled with the challenge of defeating the boss, is awesome.
In fact I can't believe I even wrote this page
at all now. It's too much a stupid argument to write about in the first place. |
