Best Game
Characters Ever:
PACMAN
(PACMAN)
Namco
|

Apparently Pacman was recently voted the
best game ever. Probably by non-gamers. Pacman has NOT aged well, and will be best remembered by aging gamers from the early 1980's Atari gang. And yet, in his early days he was a revelation. The first ever proper 'Games Character', Pacman was based on- believe it or not- a pizza with a slice cut out. It was a yellow circle. With a triangular mouth. Yep- it's really that simple. The game itself involved wondering about a maze eating pills whilst trying to avoid the 4 ghosts as best you could. Again, it's really that simple. |

Pacman in one of his most
recent cash-ins..... I mean games. |
|
I gather it must've caused a lot of commotion
upon release, as all sequels to this have been no different. Mrs. Pacman was the politically correct version and the recent 'Pacman' on Playstation was...the 3D version. Despite these few changes in 20- odd years, Pacman has remained popular among the hardcore fans. |

'Pac-man World'- Was he
really THAT good? |
|
Pacman doesn't really have a 'secret' to his
success. In the day he was created the gaming cupboard was pretty bare. Still, another incredibly simple concept brought to life, and one that worked well.
And surely the only games series still to
have such a following- based entirely on the first game in the series.
Rumours Pacman is supposed to echo
today's Nightclubs are unconfirmed. Oh come on, how can wandering around in the dark to repetitive beats whilst trying to avoid shady characters- and eating pills at the same time- possibly reflect club culture?... |
