Beer Review: Jackalope Canyon Ale

Above the front entryway in the three local Sweetwater Taverns hangs a chalkboard. The board has descriptions listed on it for the five beers currently on tap (all are brewed by Sweetwater). My first choice of the evening, the Jackalope Canyon Ale, was listed as 'an unfiltered wheat beer' with a 'light body, yeast, wheat, & caramel'. This medium brown ale was definitely unfiltered, as the brew was quite cloudy. Not much in the way of an initial bite greeted me, although I detected a slight hint of hops on the finish. Smooth, with a medium-to-light body, this beer had an overall mellow flavor. I did not, however, catch any 'caramel' notes either time I tried the ale. It did deaden, but not eliminate, the salsa taste from the appetizer I had ordered to help my reviews along. All in all, a solid beer. -- Brewmeister G
