Beer Review: Chimay Red
Sold in a brown bottle with a champagne cork in it, this unusual ale is a real classic among beer connoisseurs. Regarded by some as the finest beer in the world (but hey, so many beers, so little time!) This is actually made by Trappist Monks--one of only fives such breweries in the world. It's rich and hearty but also sweet, well balanced but interesting. It's bottle conditioned, and actually has a yeast charge added upon bottling. Chimay is one of the very few beers that actually improves with age...up to a couple years or so. Try it, you'll like it.... but warning, Bud (or even Sam Adams) will never taste the same again. -- The King

Given the price tag on this legendary brew, I had high expectations heading into this review, and I was not disappointed! Of medium color and body, this beer's flavor contained light fruit notes -- a pleasant characteristic, found in some ales. The overall taste almost reminded me of some weizens or summer beers I had tried. Almost. Slightly crisp, yet smooth, this brew had neither bite nor hoppiness to speak of inside of it. This was a very drinkable ale -- very good! -- Brewmeister G
