Beer Review: Casablanca Beer

While enjoying a night of renowned belly dancers performing in Old Town Alexandria at the Casablanca Restaurant, I decided to give the renowned Moroccan beer that sports the same name a second chance. Although I tried this drink before, I lost the taste in the buffet bar of all-you-can-east hummus and cous cous. This beer does compliment Middle Eastern cuisine, however, I wouldn’t drink it without. This light hoppy Moroccan beer is brewed in Casablanca itself, and cultivates a light and slightly bitter taste in the back of your mouth. Casablanca beer also has a surprisingly frothy head. It also has a sweet and almost wheaty aftertaste (comparable to a Bavarian wheat beer). It lacks substance however, and doesn’t give me the impression that I'm hiding in the shadows of the North African Sun, nor swapping sordid tales with Boggie in a bar. Instead, this taste makes me feel that Im resolved to a beer tour in a rusty French-operated brewery in the suburbs of Casablanca, or begging for a watery substitute in the desert heat. If eating Middle Eastern cuisine again, I would order this beer. I wouldn’t, however, dare drink Casablanca beer at a pub with my friends on a Friday evening. -- Dopplebock
