Perfect

Chapter Eight: Empathy

James soon found Jaycee. She was in another classroom at the south end of the school. She sat on the ground, her legs spread at her knees. *(you know, how all anime girls seem to sit when they’re distressed)

She turned around as James approached her, "Hi." Said James.

Jaycee exhaled, "Hey James."

James sat down next to her, "Don’t listen to Jessie, she’s just; Jessie."

Jaycee noticed that was the second time he’d said that about his partner, "It’s not just cos of her." Jaycee said.

"Look, I don’t mind that you drew me." James said, "It’s a little embarrassing sure, but it’s, it’s sort of flattering."

Jaycee got up the courage to look at him, "Really?"

James nodded, "Sure." He bit his lip, "but, can I ask why?"

Jaycee exhaled again, "You wouldn’t understand."

"How do you know if you don’t tell me?" James prompted.

"You’re perfect." Jaycee said.

James shrugged, "I know." He flinched, and smiled weakly, "Um, force of habit."

Jaycee shook her head, "But you are." She said, "I fell in love with you, and…" she stopped short.

James held up his hands, "Whoa, wait a minute. How do you know you love me? You’ve only known me what, three days or so?"

Jaycee smiled, "I’ve known you a lot longer James. even if you didn’t know me. Where I come from, well, I got to see you pretty regularly."

"Where do you come from?" James asked, "What’s your home town?"

"Not anywhere near here." Jaycee said.

James frowned, "But hold on, I thought you had acute amnesia?"

Jaycee shook her head, "No, not exactly."

James stood up, "Then you lied to me? And you lied to Jessie and Meowth? you weren’t even in a shipwreck were you?"

Jaycee blinked back tears, "I’m sorry I had to lie to you. But you wouldn’t believe the truth."

"What is the truth?" James demanded.

"I’m not even sure what happened, exactly. First you gotta know, where I live, there aren’t any Pokémon. Pokémon is just a Game Boy game, and a TV show. They made a movie too, but that’s beside the point." She watched James closely for his reaction, who looked skeptical, "You were in the TV show, and I used to always watch it. I taped all the episodes too."

"Right." James said slowly, not believing any of what Jaycee was saying.

"And I, well, I know it seems impossible, but I fell in love with you." She swallowed, "But it was more than that. you took over my life. I couldn’t eat, I couldn’t sleep. I knew I had to find you."

"I don’t understand." James said, "How is it possible that you’re here?"

Jaycee continued, "And then I thought I’d found you, this guy called David. But he couldn’t have been you because, well…" She sighed, "On the last day of school, I told him that he was James, and I gave him a rose. But I don’t think it meant anything to him. And over the school holidays all this stuff happened, and, and then…"

"What?" James asked, becoming curious.

"I couldn’t stand it anymore." Jaycee said softly, "I was just thinking about you, and crying like I always did, every night. But that night it was worse than usual. I just wanted so badly to just talk to you, or to see you. Then I remember fainting, or something. Everything went black, and I heard this weird noise. I don’t think I actually died, but somehow I wound up on the beach where you found me."

James looked at her incredulously, "How do I know you’re telling the truth? I mean, it’s not like someone would make up something like that, but still…"

Jaycee’s face lit up, "Ask me anything about yourself, well almost, and I’ll be able to tell you the answer, cos I’ve seen all the episodes!"

James looked suspicious, "Alright, what does my mother look like?" he was sure she wouldn’t be able to bluff that one.

Jaycee replied coolly, "Purple hair, a pointed sort of chin, and mean eyes. She plays a flute."

James blinked, "Alright then, tell me this, in the motorcycle gang, what was my nick name?"

Jaycee frowned, "you were never

in a motorcycle gang. You were in a bicycle gang, and your name was Little Jim. But they also called you Trainer James, cos you were the only one who had to use training wheels. You were obviously good friends with a guy named Chopper there. you were in the gang in Sunny Town, but you and Jessie left, and I think from there you joined Team Rocket."

James blinked again, "Well, um, what Pokémon did I get tricked into buying?"

Jaycee opened her mouth to answer, but stopped at the sound of shattering glass.

"What was that?" she asked.

James didn’t answer her, but ran out of the room towards the sound. Jaycee got up to follow him. she wasn’t sure if he believed her or not. She raced after him. Ninetails had broken the glass, and she sat on the floor before Jessie, James, Jaycee, Ash, Misty and Brock. Tiny particles of glass still clung in her fur, but she seemed unharmed. Her eyes glowed red, and she howled in fury. The R’s on Jessie and James’s costumes were just like the ones the men and women who had trapped her had worn. She threw forth a powerful charge of blue fire from her mouth. Jessie dove out of the way, and crashed into James, who fell to the floor too, escaping harm. Meowth, and everyone else’s Pokémon; Arbok, Weezing, Pikachu…all jumped through the window after Ninetails, and stood beside her. Ninetails glowed bright blue, and the light spread to Meowth, who began to speak, "You will pay for what you have done to me."

"It’s using Meowth as a puppet." Jaycee murmured, "Just like that giant Tentacruel did."

Ninetails and the other Pokémon advanced on the humans, who were backing up against a wall.

"Pikachu, don’t do this!" Ash yelled.

The Pokémon’s eyes all glowed supernatural blue, and they seemed deaf to their masters and mistresses.

Ninetails yapped a command, and all the Pokémon attacked. Ash fought back against Pikachu, Bulbasaur and Squirtle, but was afraid that he would hurt his Pokémon. He thanked Jigglypuff that he hadn’t sent Charizard out of its Pokeball. Misty’s Staryu and Starmie tackled her again and again, knocking her to the ground. She put her hands over her head, as they sprayed their powerful water guns at her, while Psyduck continued it’s psychic attacks the whole time. Brock was being bound by his powerful Onix’s body, the crushing power squeezing him as Zubat attacked his face and Vulpix shot fire from its mouth at him. Jessie was once again bound by Arbok, as Likitung paralyzed her with its long leathery tongue. James found himself trapped with his head inside his Victreebell, and Weezing tackling him from behind. Meowth and Ninetails watched the spectacle with amusement. Jaycee tried to free James from the death grip of his Victreebell. Ash suddenly had an idea, (And probably had a headache for days after) As his Squirtle poised for another water gun attack, "We have to get the Pokémon to fight each other!" Ash cried. Squirtle unleashed it’s water gun, but Ash dove out of the way. The burst of water slammed into Onix, which released Brock, whipped around to get Squirtle. It’s tail swung around in a wide arc, knocking Weezing away from James, and stunning Victreebell long enough for him to escape. Victreebell and Weezing turned on Onix, both throwing themselves at the long serpent like creature made of solid rock. James caught his breath and ran to Jessie to free her. But Arbok had already released her, and was snapping angrily at Victreebell, which had swiped it on its way past. Jaycee was knocked over by an enraged Staryu, who had been shocked by Pikachu accidentally. Pikachu forgot Ash, and turned to battle Staryu. Jessie and James backed away from the spectacle. Jaycee stood up dizzily, and followed them, "What are we gonna do?" she asked.

Jessie opened her mouth to respond nastily, when her attention was drawn to a noise overhead. It was a whirring. A helicopter. The helicopter hovered overhead, it’s shiny black exterior gleaming in the sunlight, proudly displaying its red R on the front. Jessie looked up, "That’s a rocket chopper!" she cried.

A parcel attached to a small parachute dropped from the helicopter. James scratched his head, "What’s happening?" Jessie dove to avoid a spinning tackle from Starmie, who was aiming for its mistress. James and Jaycee were knocked down. The parcel landed, and Jessie crawled over to it. The wrapping came away to reveal a strange Pokeball. It was purple and white, with two pink spots on the purple top. A white M was printed on it. Jessie picked it up. she looked at the chaos around her, and knew what to do. She stood up, and rushed at Ninetails, who eyed her coyly. A blast of blue fire shot from its mouth, but from sheer luck, Jessie avoided it. She was knocked down twice by Bulbasaur and Squirtle, who were battling together, but just before she hit the ground the second time, she lobbed the ball at Ninetails. Ninetails tried to reflect the ball with her fire, but was too late. She howled angrily as she turned red, and disappeared into the ball. Jessie stood up, and picked up the ball. The battling hadn’t stopped as she had hoped, and she was puzzled. She had thought once Ninetails was caught, the Pokémon would stop attacking. She studied the strange ball in her hands. The surface was cold, even in her warm hands.

"Jessie!" cried James, "Look out!"

Jessie turned around. Onix was heading straight for her. Being tackled by that Pokémon going at full tilt would surely kill her, and she shrieked, frozen to the spot in terror.
