Perfect
Chapter Fifteen: completion
they found someone before they found something. Two someone’s. Krystal and Brock, walking down the side walk together. Jaycee called out to her friend, "Hey, Krys!"
Krystal grinned at Krystal and James, "Yo." She replied, "we’re gonna get something to eat. Wanna come?" she sweat dropped and turned to Brock, "You don’t mind do you? I mean, James is your enemy and all…"
Brock waved his hand nonchalantly, "Of course not," he said carelessly, "They can come with us."
Jaycee and James reversed the direction they had been walking to walk beside Krystal and Brock. It was dark now, but the small town was bright with light from lamp posts and lights from store windows. Jaycee leaned into James happily. There was that pancake, donut, rose smell again. James let go of her hand and slid his arm around her waist. Jaycee was glad of it. It was almost winter now, and the air was crisp with cold. Brock followed James’s example with Krystal, who was showing obvious signs of cold. The foursome walked in silence, each two some lost in comfortable silence together.
Brock suddenly stopped in front of a Chinese take away shop, "Here we are."
"Cool." Jaycee and Krystal chorused instinctively.
They made their way inside, each couple having to untangle. Everyone ordered, and Brock held a large bag with the food inside, although they had only been able to afford rice. Then they filed out, and set off to find a place to eat.
"Hmm, if we could afford it, we would have gone to a restaurant." Brock explained, "but I don’t think any of us have enough money for that."
James grinned, "You’d be right about that." he frowned for a moment, "I think I know a place we could go."
"Jeez James, it’s perfect." Krystal said in approval.
He had led the three others to a cliff top, near Professor Oak’s Pokémon laboratory. They could see all of Pallet Town, not that it was particularly large, and the laboratory loomed on a cliff top next to the one they were on. Half a moon was in the inky sky, and a fine sprinkle of stars completed the picture. The four teenagers pulled out their respective food, and ate. Jaycee wasn’t particularly hungry, as usual, but picked at some of the rice. Krystal nudged her, as James and Brock became engaged in a discussion concerning, well, Pokémon of course.
"Hey, Jaycee, looks like James doesn’t like Jess after all?" she asked.
Jaycee couldn’t help grinning, "Hell no. he gave me a hug, and…" she almost choked, "Wow, that is cliché!" she gasped.
"Huh?" Krystal asked, "What is?"
Jaycee gestured to the rose she hadn’t let go of since James gave it to her, but had had to place on the ground while she ate, "James hugged me, then gave me a rose."
Krystal suddenly grasped her drift, "Ah, just like you did to Davie boy, huh?"
Jaycee glanced over at James, who was still deep in conversation, and sighed happily, "Krystal, do you have any idea what it feels like to feel…complete?"
"Well, Um, no." Krystal said pointedly. She smiled, "I really love Brock. He’s a honey, if you know what I mean. And I guess I feel totally happy when I’m with him. but who needs a guy to feel complete?"
Jaycee smiled, "Me." She said, "He’s not just a guy. He’s perfect. When I’m with him…" she paused to sigh dreamily again.
Krystal punched her playfully, "You’re pathetic."
"You’re pathetic." Brock said, playfully shoving James.
"It’s true!" James insisted, "Koffing is a really nice Pokémon once you get to know it! it doesn’t even smell that bad."
Brock snorted, "Yeah right."
Both guys turned to the two girls who were now watching them. Brock stood up, and helped Krystal up as well, "Come on Krys, let’s go look at the view, shall we?"
Krystal nodded profusely, "Yes, view sounds very good."
They walked off along the tableland, hand in hand. They found a nice ledge where the land dipped down out of sight from Jaycee and James. do I really need to tell you what they were referencing when they said view?
"Well, I can see the view from here." James said. (he didn’t exactly understand what they were referencing)
"Yeah, me too." Jaycee said, staring at James, transfixed for the millionth time, "It’s a really cute view."
James looked over at her, "How can a view be…oh."
Jaycee moved the fast food containers out of the way, and shifted over to James, who pulled her to sit next to him. she felt the security of his arm around her, and he felt hers around him. yep, the view was just fine from here.
Ash giggled girlishly.
"Ash, stop that, you sound like a girl." Misty said dully, "What did you want anyway?"
she fiddled with a model of a Raichu, which was set up on a shelf beside about ten billion books on Pokémon among other things. Ash stood next to the window in the small study room in Professor Oak’s laboratory. He was staying at the lab for a while, to catch up on his studies, away from the distractions of his home. i.e. the TV. Professor Oak was tutoring him. and of course if Ash was staying there, his friends did too. So anyway, he had asked misty to come into his room. Professor Oak was asleep. Or working. Or dead, something like that. okay, maybe working. Probably not dead. Anyway:
"Come and look at this." Ash explained, pointing out the window. His loyal yellow companion, Pikachu, stood beside him, of course, although it couldn’t see out of the window.
Misty stood next to him, "what?" she asked.
They had a clear view of Brock and Krystal, who were some distance away on a flat topped mountain south of the laboratory. Their silhouettes were visible, but Ash and Misty both knew who they were.
"So what?" Misty asked, not amused, "it’s Brock and Krystal."
Ash rolled his eyes, "Yeah, but check what they’re doing!"
Misty stood up, "So? There’s nothing funny about that." she jerked the curtains closed, "and stop spying on them."
"Yeah right." Ash said, "it’s hilarious."
Misty sighed contemptuously, "Ash, grow up!"
Ash simply mouthed her words, in obvious mock. Pikachu looked at him sternly. It liked Misty, and knew Ash was just pushing her buttons, as usual. Pikachu could never understand why Ash did that. did he want to make Misty angry? Humans were so weird.
Misty felt a surge of irrationality consuming her, and in one movement moved over to Ash, and let her lips graze his, not actually kissing him, but she figured it was enough to make him scream or something entertaining like that. um, no scream. Ash responded by throwing his arms around her, and returning the kiss. Misty didn’t scream either, as she gave up on the grazing thing, and turned it into a full out…well, you know. Somewhere in the middle of all this, both participants realized whom they were kissing, and hugging and, you know. Misty wrenched away first, leaving Ash rather startled and gasping for breath, having never done that before, and not realizing he was supposed to breathe at the same time. Misty was no expert either, and stood, stunned across from him, catching her breath.
"Okay, okay, I guess it wasn’t funny." Ash said, "Hell, it was fun."
Misty slapped him a few times then stormed out. Ash burst out laughing once she left, unable to hold it in any longer. He’d gotten Misty steamed and scored his first kiss from her. Perfect.
"Do you believe in soul mates?" Jaycee asked carefully.
James shifted his grip around her, "well, I don’t know. What do you mean?"
"You know, how everyone has a perfect other half, a person who’s made for them, and they search their whole life for them." Jaycee said.
James shrugged, "If they’re real, then when you’re with that person who’s your perfect other half, nothing else would matter, right?"
Jaycee nodded, "Yeah."
"And, your other half would be a lot like you, someone who you could empathize with on every level, right?" James asked.
"Yeah, something like that." Jaycee said. She wondered, with a feeling of dread, if James was talking about Jessie.
"Then I guess I’ve found mine." James said, "I know it’s completely sappy, but I think maybe you might be."
Jaycee leaned into James, closing her eyes in pure completion, "I love you." She said, "You don’t know how many times I yelled that out to you. And I whispered it at night, just in case you were listening. Now I actually get to say it, to your face. I love you, James."
"if we’re soul mates, then some one made a big mistake when they put us in two different dimensions." James pondered, "But that doesn’t matter now, does it?"
Jaycee shook her head, and eased herself so that she was as close as possible to James without being on top of him, "I’m here, you’re here…"
She closed her eyes, savoring the moment, "And I love you."
James held her tighter, "I love you."
Krystal tore her mouth from Brock’s, "Yo, Brock?" she asked.
Brock sat up, dazed, "Huh, what’s wrong? Why are we stopping?"
Krystal gestured with a tilt of her head towards Jaycee and James, "They’re having a really meaningful conversation, but we’re just making out."
"And?" Brock asked, sitting up slightly.
Krystal shrugged, "Ah, what the hell."
Brock grinned (as best he could) as they continued what they had been doing. *(come on, I’m doing my best to keep this clean, alright? they were doing laundry, okay? Laundry. Do you believe me?)*
Jaycee and James fell asleep that night on the plateau. They clung tightly to each other in the cold night air. Jaycee breathed in James’s pancake, donut, rose smell all night long, just like she had the night before. but it was more special this time. He had said he loved her. This was more than perfect, it was completion. A perfect completion. And he thought she was his soul mate! I knew I loved him before I met him. Jaycee pondered with a sigh, her head resting beneath James’s chin. They lay on a blanket James had thankfully brought in his back pack, which was better than the itchy grass. But in all truth, Jaycee knew she would lay on spiders with James. Ew, maybe not big spiders. But hey, he wouldn’t lay on the spiders either! They’d both jump up, and stamp on the wretched things. Ew, but what if the spiders were really big? Like the one’s in that movie, Arachnophobia? Then they’d need a big can of bug spray. Jaycee halted the train of thought, and went back to cuddling up to James. wait a minute, what if the spiders were invincible?
"Super bug spray." Jaycee muttered, "Maybe a gun with super bug spray bullets."
James’s eyes flickered open, "What? Bug spray bullets?"
Jaycee sweat dropped, "Oh, did I say that out loud? Sorry, train of thought."
James yawned, covering his mouth with the back of his hand, but keeping his other around Jaycee, "It matters not."
"What happened to Brock and Krystal?" Jaycee asked, sitting up to look around.
James sat up too, pulling away from her, "Do you really want to know?"
Jaycee cringed, "Ugh, I’ll be right."
She rubbed her eyes, "Do you wanna head back to camp? I’ve got to get my hair brushed and get changed."
James nodded, "Yeah, I guess we should get back."
At that moment, Brock and Krystal appeared on the plateau. They had spent the night on the ledge they had found the night before, and had found it quite comfortable.
"Where’d you two get to?" Jaycee asked, mock accusingly.
Krystal grinned, "the view took a while to see." She explained.
