Chapter Five

"Rini, didn’t you say that you were a full Saiyan?" Asked Trunks, the next day.
"I never said that, but yes, I’m a full Saiyan. Why do you ask?"
"Well, all pure Saiyans have black hair. You have naturally brown hair, and Spike has black hair."
"Hmmm... That’s true... Both my parents have black hair, but... I have brown hair. Weird."
"Have you ever taken it into consideration that you may be adopted?" Rini’s eyes filled with angry tears.
"No! I’m a true Saiyan! I’m not adopted! Spike is my real brother!" She sat down hard and rested her head on her knees, with her arms crossed around her shins.
"You may not want to tell yourself that, but, it may be true. If you were a full Saiyan, then your hair would be black!"
"But it’s not... My father has been lying to me, all this time!" She stood up and grabbed the transmitter from her pocket. She activated it.
"Hello? Rini? Is that you my girl?" Asked an old voice.
"Why is my hair brown, and not black?!" Her father paused.
"Rini, my child-"
"No! I’m not your child!" She screamed, with anger-filled tears.
"Rini, just listen to me. I was going to tell you sooner, but-" Rini screamed very loud for a few seconds, and her hair turned bright yellow. She threw the transmitter with all of her Level Two might.
"Your father was trying to tell you something-"
"Trunks, just be quiet! He’s not my father, and he never was! I’m probably just a kid who doesn’t even have special powers! It’s all just an illusion... Everything is an illusion! Nothing is real! Not the ki blasts, not the tail- And not you. Trunks, you aren’t real. YOU AREN’T REAL!" With tears streaming down her face, she ran all the way home.
"RINI!! COME BACK!"

*******

"Rini, I found the transmitter in the yard." Spike handed it to her. She just threw it against the wall. It clanked to the floor in multiple pieces.
"Nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real..."
"Rini, what’s wrong?"
"Nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real..." She chanted, without slowing down. Spike ran to the phone.
"Hello, is Trunks there? Okay." There was a brief pause.
"Trunks? Yeah, hi, this is Spike. Can you come down to my house for a minute? I think there’s something wrong with Rini. You’ll be here in a minute? Good. Okay, see you in a bit." He hung up the phone.
"Rini, what’s wrong?"
"Nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real..."

"She keeps on repeating the same thing; ‘Nothing is real.’ Never slowing, never changing the volume of her voice. I think there’s something wrong."
"Spike, where’s that transmitter?" He pointed to the pile of springs, bolts, screws, and all other odds and ends.
"That’s not good..." He said. Spike nodded.
"Do you think your mom could build a new one for us?" Asked Spike.
"Maybe. I could ask her."
"Okay. Umm, can you bring her here? Maybe she can talk some sense into Rini."
"Okay. I’ll be right back." Trunks ran out the door and shot into the air, towards his house.

"Mother! Come with me!" Trunks grabbed his mother and flew off to Rini’s house with her.

"Mother, there’s something wrong with Rini." Said Trunks. Bulma walked over to the corner in which Rini was sitting in.
"Rini, what’s wrong?" She asked.
"Nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is real..."
"Rini snap out of it!" She picked Rini up and stood her up. Bulma’s hand flew across Rini’s cheek. "Rini, you have got to stop this!" The dull look left Rini’s eyes.
"Huh? What?" She asked, dazed and confused. Bulma, Spike and Trunks all smiled.
"Mother, here are the plans for a new transmitter. Rini smashed it against the wall earlier." Said Trunks.
"Sure! I can build anything!" She said, taking the parts away from him. Rini stepped up.
"Bulma, please. I don’t want to talk to my so-called ‘father’ right now."
"Rini, if you don’t, then you’ll never figure out why you don’t have black hair." Said Trunks. She started crying.
"How could I be so dense? I should have noticed by now that I’m not his daughter... I feel so dumb..." She said, looking at the ground. Rini sat down on her bed. Trunks sat down next to her.
"Rini, you aren’t dumb." She looked up at him.
"Yes I am..."
"No you aren’t."
"Yes, I am." She argued.
"Why do you think that?"
"I didn’t notice..."
"It doesn’t matter! Maybe it wasn’t important to you until now, but one thing’s for sure; you are not dumb, or dense, or stupid, or anything else like that. You’re one of the smartest people I know. Nothing can change that." Without warning, Rini swiftly wrapped Trunks in her arms in a tight embrace. She cried on his shoulder, as he just sat there, looking puzzled, and blushing at the same time.
