Part 542
As the door closed behind the guys, Howie began kissing Sarah’s neck and caressing her stomach, "Mmm, you taste so good, ‘Angel’."
"’D’, please," her voice pleading for mercy.
"Come on, you know you want me. I know how your body reacts to me, the way your heartbeat speeds up," his hand moving up to feel her heartbeat, "the way your nipples harden," his hands caressing them through the material of her bra, "the way you can’t concentrate."
As his hand moved over her body, all the things he said were happening along with a couple others. The fact that they were babysitting went completely out of Sarah’s thoughts. She loved it when he was like this. He’d had just enough to drink to get him to the point that he wanted to make love all night long….but, sober or intoxicated, Howie was always like that.
Turning in his arms, she ran her fingers through his hair and whispered, "You do NOT play fair."
"Not when there’s a sexy lady around. Let me make love to you, ‘Angel’. Let me do all those things to you over and over again." Howie kissed her all over her face, his hands continuing to love her body, as he backed her to the bedroom. "I wanna hear you call out my name with that sweet southern accent. I wanna feel your body shake with release."
Sarah moaned, "Oh, god, ‘D’."
Through the door, Howie reached back with his foot to kick the door shut. As the door slammed, the ‘siren’ went off and the fire of desire they had been building was squelched.
"Damn! I forgot about Garrett. Just like his father…always screwing up my plans," swore Howie. "I’m sorry, ‘Angel’. Do you want me to get him?"
"No, the smell of your breath would only make matters worse. Make yourself useful and go check my messages on my voice mail. I know I had one but I didn’t have a chance to check it before we went to dinner," answered Sarah as she scooped the crying infant up. In a soothing voice, "Ah, what ‘sa matter, GT? Uncle Howie didn’t mean to startle you."
Howie stood for a minute at the door simply watching his wife. She was such a mixture of ironies. She was such a wonderful friend and wife but she had a devilish side to her too. And god help the person who she felt had wronged her. One minute warm, loving, and tender, the next, a mother bear protecting her babies, ready to fight to the death any one who messed with the ones she loved. He loved it all and not a day went by that he didn’t thank God for the gift of her love and bringing them together. And every day, she gave him a new reason to love her that much more.
Sarah looked up as he let out a sigh and smiled, "I love you too."
Howie moved to stand with her, looking over her shoulder at the infant. He reached around to take the tiny hand in his and the infant’s fingers instinctively wrapped around his finger. "You look so perfect holding him. I can’t wait until it’s ours."
"It’ll be here before you know it."
"I’m gonna go check your messages. Need anything?"
"I’ve got everything I need right here beside me." Sarah gave him a kiss. "You might want to take a couple aspirin while you’re at it though."
"What are you trying to say?"
"I’m saying, Becca’s gonna be ENOUGH to deal with having a hangover. I don’t need you to be that way too."
"Yes dear," smirked Howie as he headed out to find Sarah’s cell phone.
"I’m gonna ‘yes dear’ you, Dorough," mumbled Sarah. Looking down, Garrett’s sleepy eyes met hers. "Your Uncle Howie thinks he’s cute."
The baby cooed sleepily.
"Yeah, you know the truth, don’t ya? I can’t resist him."
Howie wasn’t gone long but by the time he returned, Sarah had Garrett settled into his bassinet and was changing clothes. He slipped in behind her and ran his arms around her preventing her from buttoning the nightshirt.
"Have I told you how incredible you are today?" whispered Howie.
Sarah stopped and ran her hands across his arms as she leaned against him. "No, not lately."
"Well, you are, ‘Angel’. You’re an incredible friend especially to Becca; you’re an incredible wife looking out for me; and you’re an incredible lady for what you do for your battered wife shelter."
"Where’d THAT come from?"
"Remember Tiffany, in Portland? She was waiting for you outside the hotel that morning we were headed to the game for Kevin’s birthday."
"I remember. She had a little girl about Jesse’s age."
"Megan. Well, your message was from her. She made it back to Dallas and went to her parents."
"And?" asked Sarah anxiously turning around.
Howie smiled. "They are working things out. She’s living at home with them, has a new job, is filing for a divorce, and her parents adore Megan."
"That’s AWESOME, Howie!" Sarah was excited and she hugged him. "How did she sound?"
"Like you, relieved, happy. Sarah, I can’t tell you how proud I am of all that you’ve done to get this shelter up and running. You’re helping so many girls."
"I just want others to have the same chances I had and I couldn’t have done it without you and your support…and that check from Rob David."
Sarah let out a yawn and tried to hide it by tucking her head.
Leading her to the bed, Howie said, "YOU need to get some sleep. Garrett’s gonna be up early."
"Uh huh, and I know you. You’re gonna hear him and be so helpful and wake me up so I can go get him," quipped Sarah as Howie pulled the covers over her.
"Oh, ‘Angel’, you know I won’t be that bad," smirked Howie. "I’ll give ya a kiss before I push you out of the bed."
"That’s twice you’ve tried to be cute, Dorough. I WILL get you!"
"I don’t doubt it," laughed Howie. Standing up to change, "Tell me, does this mean we don’t’ have to keep Garrett at the six weeks mark?"
"There you go again being cute. Of course we’re gonna keep him at the six weeks point. That was our gift to them," reminded Sarah. "Speaking of their six weeks, we’ll be in Virginia."
"Yeah, I know." Howie slid into bed and Sarah snuggled next to him. "What’s this got to do with us…besides the fact that we’re suppose to keep the ‘Crown Prince’?"
"Well, Becca has this picture of it being really romantic. I thought we could let them have the house for that night and we’d stay with Daddy."
"Let them baptize the house?"
"Don’t be ridiculous. We’ll probably get to Virginia before they do anyway and we’ll do THAT ourselves. I’m not completely insane."
"So what did you have in mind?"
"That’s up to Nick," yawned Sarah. "I just thought I’d offer the house to them so they could have some privacy."
Howie smiled as he played with her hair. "I’m sure they’ll both appreciate it. Go to sleep now. You’ve done your good deeds for today."
"Had to make sure I got them in because of what I’m gonna do to Becca in the morning."
Howie shook his head…his angel, wonderful wife, mother, and friend, but she DEFINITELY had a devilish side too. Looking down, he saw that she was asleep. He placed a kiss on her forehead, "Sleep tight, ‘Angel’," he whispered.
