Ritchie at California Music Awards

Last Saturday Oakland Raiders fullback Jon Ritchie presented the award for Best Single to Train for “Drops of Jupiter.” during the taping of the California Music Awards.

The gala awards ceremony, which recognizes significant musical contributions made by California artists, was held at the Henry J. Kaiser Arena in Oakland. The awards show will be televised locally on UPN 44, Sunday, May 5 from 9 p.m.–11 p.m.

Highlights of the 25th California Music Awards show included special performances by Smashmouth, Sammy Hagar, Papa Roach, Bob Weir, Joe Satriani, The K.G.B., Mystic & Mixmaster Mike.

During the history of the show, more than $500,000 has been raised for various California based music-related charities. Proceeds from the 2002 California Music Awards will benefit The Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation—a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting instrumental music education nationwide by partnering with businesses, schools, and communities to provide new and refurbished musical instruments to qualified schools and individual students.
