Exceptional Mortals

Even among humans, there are, or were, warriors of great power. Vampires are powerful beasts, as are Werewolves, but some human warriors actually can fight them, and win.

CHURCH KNIGHTS
Warriors empowered by Mother Church can be a true terror to even the majority of Cainites. Some, like the Knights of St. John, have training as church knights, and access to the best equipment and armor, while others, like the Knights Templar, are not only well trained, but also possess the power of True Faith. In the 10th to 12th centuries, the Church Knights were amongst the most fearsome warriors in Europe or the Near East, human or otherwise.

Description
The history of the Knights of St. John, also known as the Knights Hospitallar is long, and can be found at the link prior. For the purposes of here, assume that they have the best training, but their problems with the outside world caused them to lose their True Faith. They make up for this with full plate armor, a rarity in the real medieval world, and large two-handed swords, which can cause horrendous damage. Where other knightly orders traveled the roads, and guarded pilgrims, it is the role of the Knights of St. John to safeguard cities (such as Prague), and defend them from threats both mundane and supernatural. Their top-grade equipment, coupoled with ther high-end training and team battling, makes them a threat most vampires and werewolves avoid at all costs.

Appearance
With their access to the best equipment, the Knights of St. John are a legitimate threat to a Cainite. They are almost always found wearing full plate armor, one of the rare groups to make use of the stuff. For weapons, the Knights favor bastard swords. They are often seen in groups of two or three, as well, and are well trained in the use of team tactics.

Description
The history of the Knights Templar is long, and can be found at the link prior. For the purposes of here, assume that they have the best training, access to great equipment (including the occasional relic), True Faith (rating of 1 to 3), and sway over anyone claiming to be a good Christian. They travel the Holy Lands, seeking out Moors and other heathens, and keeping such folk away from good Christian pilgrims. It should be noted that every Templar Knight already has a blanket pardon for any sin they commit, in the name of God, and so they will not hesitate to use any means at their disposal to eradicate a threat.

In other areas, the Tempars were amongst the best riders, sailors, and guardians of the ways to the Holy Land. They were also the first real bankers, and they made many loans to Emperors, Churches, and Knights.

Appearance
Templar Knights are often well-built and battle-hardened. They are usually not clean-shaven, but keep their equipment in good order. They often wear trousers, chain-shirts, and their surcoats (white with the red Crusader's cross). Lower ranks often wear helmets. They all have a palpable aura of power about them.

Appearance

For a note, on March 18, in 1314, Jacques de Molay, the last Grand Master of the Templar Knights, was executed for various heresies, at the order of King Philip IV of France. When he was burned at the stake, it is said he cursed those who had betrayed him, notably the King and Pope Clement V, who seemed unable, or unwilling, to defend the holy order. It is said he challenged them to meet him in judgment, before God, and within that same year, both the King and the Pope were dead (November 29, 1314 and April 20, 1314, respectively).

OTHER SERVANTS OF THE CHURCH
As well as knightly orders, the Church has several other types of people that it can use to flex its will.

Church-Mage

STATS FORTHCOMING --- I will likely list Viscount Rausan, a Templar Mage I created.

Description
Though the Church takes a negative view on magic, on the whole, certain ordained people may practice it safely, under the watchful eyes of the Church, and perform "miracles" in the name of God.

Appearance
Either dressed in Church Knight regalia, if of that bent, or dressed in robes. Some dress as priests, if that is their occupation. Of course, many dress normally, for to attract attention is to draw fear and suspicion.

Inquisitor

STATS FORTHCOMING

Description
Sinister servants of the Church, Inquisitors travel the medieval world, seeking sin, and keeping others in line. They have nigh-supreme authority. Those few who aren't obligated to follow them unquestioningly likely will anyway, for fear of looking suspicious.
