Piccolo was originally a bad guy, but he became a good guy because of his feelings for Gohan. Piccolo has played a big role in DBZ, teaches Gohan to release his hidden power, and even sacrificed himself for Gohan before. As DBZ clearly became a super saiyan-dominated arena after the Freeza saga, but he kept his power level as high as them by fusing himself with Nail and Kami. He was originally hatched from the egg that Piccolo Daimao produced after he was defeated by Goku. He, too was later absorbed by Super Buu.
