Santa Died
He asked "Why?"
And received no answer...
From the crowd

Then he died...
He cried out "Prancer!"
But not aloud

The people cheered,
Laughed, and jeered
At the lifeless man that was strewn before
Them, on the floor

They lifted the Innocent
Carried him to a grave
Just another tenant
Their hearts never forgave

Blood stained each tooth
As he lay alongside
The paradigms of untruth
That he couldn't abide

"Honesty, Kindness! Go hand in hand!"
"Nobility, Charity! Take a stand!"
"Life and Happiness! Must go unplanned!"
Those words were layed to waste
Buried with him in the sand...

Centuries later
The people stopped and cried
They remembered what they did
How they hated, how they lied

They brought a dozer
Dug up his bones
And moved them over
To each of their homes

A candle was lit
On each window sill
The people all went to sit
And think until

"Honesty, Kindness! Go hand in hand!"
"Nobility, Charity! Take a stand!"
"Life and Happiness! Must go unplanned!"
Forgotten since childhood. Finally understood!

One more thing left to do
Before the town could move on
In his honor, the sculptors made a statue
The poets wrote a song

Books were written
Placed onto shelves
Drums were smitten
As they told legends of elves

My grandfather told me
About the day Santa died
When his grandfather told him
He assumed he had lied

Now the people know they were wrong
So things can get better
They can again become strong

Santa saved their lives
With the lessons he gave
In his death, the people thrive
Though it was they who dug his grave

Every week they praise his name
So much so, it's become a game
To be moral is to be the winner
Yet the truth behind it has become much thinner

I told my children Santa never died
He never lived
We never cried

It's better without him in our lives
We are free
To do what's right

Be a good person, live each day in hope
But the Santa Clause you knew was a lucky dope
The people made false his words, once true
And the only one who has to suffer
Is you
