(1) DM: last weeks game: Our group of adventures fins themselves in the Olde Seadog Tavern, in the Village of Saltmarsh, on the Sword Coast. Corporal Stoutly asks them to volenteer to go check out the house on the point, in search of missing local Ned Shakeshaft. The corporal also makes it clear, that under Duchy of Daggerford laws, anybody within the Duchy may be drafted in the militia. So if the party don't volenteer, they'll be press ganged. The party decide to go, and head out in the wind and rain toward the house. On the way, a merchant tells them the house is haunted, and there is a legend of a alchemists horde of gold hidden there. The party proceed into the house and begin to search. A posionus spider give them a nasty fright. But when they get to the stairs to the cellar, a ghostly voice screams as if tortured. The party decide to descend into the cellar.

(1) DM: Vadim is syill in the attic, everybody else is at the top of the stairs in the scullery
(2) Vadim (whispering): How do I get down again?
whispering to Donavan, are you keeping track of what spells you've cast?

(3) Sparrow: (me is behind...who?...holding hooded lantern and descending down))
(4) Donavan: Donavan Perow casts Cure Minor Wounds ( level 0, "Cures 1 point of damage" )

(3) Sparrow: (( i guess donovan was just descending down..and me behind him))
** (4) Donavan is holding his Holy Symbol which is lighted at arms length. Decending the steps. **
** (1) Vincent says to the party" i will go check on where Vadim has got to" and turns and goes up the stairs **
(2) Vadim: A noise is heard from the entrance to the attic. Vadim lowers himself from the attic and begins to swing, building up a mommentum like on a trapeze then releasing himself and flying through the air to land on the landing below. (1) DM: Wine Cellar: This was obviously a wine cellar. Wooden bottle racks -mostly broken -- line the north and west walls to a height of 6'. There appear to be no intact bottles left in the racks though there are several with broken necks. Broken bottles cover the floor beneath and near the racks.

Against the east wall, at the foot of the stairs, are two large metal storage bins that appear to be empty. In the centre of the room lies a human corpse clad in Half plate; a long sword lies by the corpse's right hand and a large shield lies across the legs.

whispering to Vadim, you make the jump, and nearly crash into vincent coming to find you
(3) Sparrow (whispering): simon...could you send me the room txt...like before, please ?

** (4) Donavan fearlessly proceeds down the stairs **
** (4) Donavan still extending his arm moves to inspect the corpse. **
(2) Vadim: "The attic was a waste of time by the way," Vadim says while wiping cobwebs off the rim of his black hat.
(1) DM: ((roll inititive please))
** (6) Hador treads down cautiously and haults at the base of the steps **
** (4) Donavan still grips his morning star in his right hand. **

** (2) Vadim examines the metal bins to see what was stored in them. "I imagine," he says mid-search. "He would pay off robbers with the poouch of coins, but retain the gem and his life. Apparently that plan fdidn't work out." **
** (3) Sparrow looks around "Alas...we stand here and chit chat, while perhaps in mortal danger....whatever killed this man...is still here!" **
** (4) Donavan looks back to hador "Perhaps they were seeking the contents of the pouch specifically. May haps there was no time for a thorough search." **

(2) Vadim: "I'm not looking in that other bin," he says.
(1) Vincent: "i think the other bin is empty"
(3) Sparrow: ((whoever holds the torch??))
(2) Vadim: "i thought the first one was empty, too," Vadim says.
** (1) Vincent passes the torch to sparrow **
** (4) Donavan is obviously strained from the use of power. He starts mumbling under his breath while in prayr ".. my . . alone. . .Illmater. . . thank. . ." **
(6) Hador: "well - we still havn't worked out where that voice was comming from." he ponders to himself "HELLO!" he then shouts
(2) Vadim: ((BRB, need to re-log))
(2) Vadim: Disconnecting from server...
(2) Vadim: Disconnecting from server...
(2) Vadim (exit): 20:48
** (3) Sparrow takes the torch and uses it extendedly to search the next bin... **
(3) Sparrow: Search Skill Check: [1d20+7] -> [2,7] = (9)
** (4) Donavan pulls his holy symbol out and reties it around his neck. **
(1) DM: the bin is empty
** (3) Sparrow procedes to search trough the room...but he holds the torch in front...wary of the vicious worms **
whispering to Hador, make a lsten check
(3) Sparrow: Search Skill Check: [1d20+7] -> [14,7] = (21)
(13) Vadim (enter): 20:50
(6) Hador: [1d20] -> [3] = (3)
whispering to Sparrow, where are you starting to search?
whispering to Hador, you hear no reply
Attempting to assign the role of PLAYER to (13) Vadim...
** (4) Donavan is standing flanked off to the side of Vadim. **
(3) Sparrow (whispering): I will start at the west racks...than north ones
** (4) Donavan is obviously worn from the prayr and is just keeping a cautious eyeout. **
whispering to Sparrow, you'll need help, the wine racks are 3 times your height
** (3) Sparrow turns to the others...."Come help me search!" **
(13) Vadim: ((What are we serching for?))
(3) Sparrow (whispering): Lets assume i search lower things and help searches high
(1) DM: the party can see the 2' high halfling struggling to search a 6' high wine rack
(6) Hador: "Here, let me help"
** (3) Sparrow is searching heaps of broken bottles at the wine racks...but he is apparently to small to reash high places **
** (4) Donavan chuckles when he looks over to the halfling **
** (6) Hador strolls over to help in the search **
(3) Sparrow: ((3'2 high halfling))
whispering to Hador, search roll
(6) Hador: [1d20+1] -> [4,1] = (5)
** (13) Vadim peers among the wineracks for... whatever. **
(13) Vadim: [1d20+3] -> [17,3] = (20)
whispering to Vadim, search roll
** (4) Donavan looks over a Hador ((and see's what?)) **
whispering to Vadim, on the south wall, on the floor, you can see a crack of light
whispering to Hador, Sparrow, you find nothing on the racks, but bootles of wine, some empty some not
(13) Vadim: "Gentlemen," Vadim says. "Gentlemen, if I may direct you." Vadim waits for their attention then points to the South Wall at floor level.
** (13) Vadim walks over tho the wall and tries to push it. **
** (6) Hador turns his attention to vadim **
whispering to Vadim, you think it might slide
** (4) Donavan followes flanked slightly to the right and back about 3 feet from vadim **
** (3) Sparrow is now interested in new discovery and walks over to see this lever... **
** (13) Vadim grips onto the wall and attempts to slid the wall. **
** (3) Sparrow looks at lever and tries to discern the mechanism **
(3) Sparrow: Search Skill Check: [1d20+7] -> [5,7] = (12)
(13) Vadim: *slide*
(1) DM: the wall slides open to reveal
(1) DM: Cellar: You have entered a room that is so unlike anything else you have seen in the House that for a moment you pause, somewhat taken aback. The illumination here is good since several lighted torches are held in shoulder-high brackets around the walls. This was obviously a cellar, but equally obviously it is now used for an entirely different purpose; your first impression is that it is the living quarters for about ten people.

Ten single beds (crude affairs - little more than thin mattresses on boards) stand with heads to the south wall, each with a small wooden locker at its foot. In the centre of the flagged floor is a long wooden trestle table on which there is a variety of cheap metal cutlery and earthenware crockery together with a large jug about half full of a light brown liquid. There are a dozen wooden stools round the table. Against the north wall are two casks, one larger than the other and both broached. The larger one is nearly full of a clear liquid, the smaller one about half full of a light brown liquid. A metal dipper hangs on the outside of the rim of the larger cask.

Next to the casks is a large wooden bin. Above it, hanging on hooks on the wall, are a large ham, a long string of sausages and a small side of meat. Next to the bin is what appears to be a crude, metal wood-fired stove standing in a fireplace. Above the stove, on a shelf, are some iron and earthenware cooking utensils, while next to it is a small pile of logs.

The room is 75' by 30' with a 10' wide 15' long corridor in the south east corner. Two doors lead off the corridor, one north and one to the east.

Near the foot of the stairs are two small, unbroached casks; next to them is a bolt of cloth.

(3) Sparrow (whispering): thanks
(13) Vadim: "Lookie what I found," he says.
(1) DM: sitting at the table is a man, who turns around at the noise
(1) DM: ((inititive please))

(4) Donavan: [1d20+3] -> [16,3] = (19)

(4) Donavan: ((Is there any way that we can get a discription of the man, and his actions that would make us want to take initiative?))
** (3) Sparrow draws two daggers from his clothes and yells "Stand back and dont attack ... This house is sorounded by saltmarsh militia! You are outnoumbered! Surrender!" **
(1) DM: (at present only vadim has a really good look at the room,.everybody else is peering over is shoulder))
(1) DM: (or though his legs in sparrows case)
(3) Sparrow: ((let soppose i steped one step into the room?)
(1) DM: Donavan action
(13) Vadim: ((No throwing daggers through Vadim's legs))
(3) Sparrow (whispering): dont i get bluff check?
whispering to Sparrow, no
** (4) Donavan walks proudly into the room to the other end of the table with he morningstar still in hand "You heard the little man there is not a reason for hostility. Please surrender willingly." **
(1) DM: the man drops the loaf of bread he was eating, turns and runs to wards the south west corner, pulls at something, at door apears , and he disappears through it
(1) DM: Hador action
(4) Donavan: ((Can I get a better discription of him now?))
** (6) Hador steps into the room and makes his way over to the entrance of the south-east corridoor (to make sure no one is lurking down that way) **
(1) DM: the man looked like a sailor, wearing leather armour, armed with a short sword and dagger. bald, aged in his 30's and had a earing in his left ear
(1) DM: Vadim action
** (13) Vadim vaults the table, tumbling through the air and pursues the man at break-neck speed, his scythe grasped firmly in both hands. ((Any chance of an attack?)) **
(13) Vadim: Macros: Tumble: [1d20+13] -> [10,13] = (23)
whispering to Hador, Eastern Door: The door to the east has a strong wooden bar across it, carried in brackets on the frame and the door itself. On the door has been written the single word 'DANGER' in the common tongue; this has been inscribed in large letters using chalk.

** (3) Sparrow yells "Get him!!!" **
whispering to Hador, no one is lurking there
** (4) Donavan notices the blur go past him and smiles. **

(4) Donavan: ((My first action was going to the endof the table))
(13) Vadim: ((How did the man cover 60' in one round and perform the action of opening the door while I, who ran at breakneck speed, covered only 30?))
(1) DM: hador action
(4) Donavan: ((What???)))
(4) Donavan: ((Whoa))
(4) Donavan: ((Vadim dont question the DM))
** (6) Hador draws the other's attention to the barred door to the east with the word 'DANGER' scraweld upon it before making his way over to the 'secret' entrance opened by the sailor. **
(1) DM: (30 is base speed, if all you do is move you can double that, plus running triples it))
(4) Donavan: (( I should have already ben at the end of the table))
(4) Donavan: ((Why was that my action?))
(3) Sparrow: ((you can run only in straight line))
(4) Donavan: ((Me confused))
(3) Sparrow: ((any obsticle and you can not run))
(3) Sparrow: ((page 126 PHB read it))
(3) Sparrow: ((movement only actions))
(4) Donavan: ((Why are we questioning the DM stop))
(13) Vadim: ((Pfft, like I own the 3e PHB))
(4) Donavan: ((I just want to move to the west end of the tabel with my liht Xbow drawn))
(4) Donavan: ((err light))
(1) DM: (let me recap, donovan moved to the table, cause thats you move this turn. Vadim is only half way accros the room cause he tumbles, None of you have tried running so the obsticle thing hasn't pplied yet))
(4) Donavan: ((But if you scroll back up my #1 action was to go to the end of the table, for #2 I want to go to the other end with my Xbow drawn is that ok?))
whispering to Hador, how fast do you move?
(4) Donavan: ((By other end I mean the west end))
(4) Donavan: ((Or does that not work?))
(6) Hador (whispering): (( :) if it's poss to run - i'll run - otherwise a double move :) ))
(1) DM: (yes but you can walk that far last turn, you moved into the room))
whispering to Hador, you can get to the door this round

(1) DM: vadim actiion
(6) Hador: (( :) ))
(4) Donavan (whispering): Can you draw where i am please? I am still a bit confused))
** (13) Vadim pursues the man at his maximum allowable speed according to any various rules in play. :)) **
whispering to Donavan, if all you do is move, you can go 40', which puts you by the table, where vadim is
(1) DM: vadim runs past Hador and through the door, the man left by
(4) Donavan (whispering): Ok thanks :D
whispering to Vadim, you can see stairs going down, but no sign of the man

(16) Hador: ((at the doorway right))
(1) DM: (yes)]
** (16) Hador enters the door (behind vadim) and proceeds to follow in the footsteps of the sailor **
(13) Vadim (whispering): Would I be faster jumping down the stairs or running down them? In the total amount of distance I could cover in a round?
whispering to Vadim, you couldn't run, as the stairs aren't straight they turn, moving rather than jumping covers 60' a round
whispering to Hador, you see stairs going down
(1) DM: vadim action
** (13) Vadim continues his pursuit, moving down the stairs after the fleeing man. **
whispering to Vadim, the stairs continue down into darkness, and end after 40' with what looks like caves going east and west

(16) Hador: DM - a rules query???
(1) DM: go on?
(16) Hador: I might be wrong (i usually am :) ) - but on surprise rounds I thought it was only the unsurprised PC's that could make a partial action (and the rest could do nothing?
(1) DM: uhmm....
(16) Hador: ...as opposed to unsurprised PC's acting normally - and surprised ones only partial
(16) Hador: Like i said i could be wrong
(1) DM: they can act if they are aware of the oppent
