1-2 fistfuls stonegrass lichen
2 cups milk
1/2 tsp salt
2-3 Tbl brown or white sugar



Stonegrass Soup

1-2 fistfuls stonegrass lichen
2 cups milk
1/2 tea spoon salt
2-3 table spoons brown or white sugar

Clean the lichen well and rinse in cold water. Bring the milk to a boil and add lichen. Cook for 2-3 minutes. Add salt and sugar. Serve warm.


Note: this is actually an icelandic recipe called Fjallagrasamjolk (Iceland Moss Soup), the lichen used is Cetraria islandica.
