Hugon nods. "Ahh, the power of many windows..."

Hugon says, "How goes it?"

Naphtali says, "Pretty good... Just moved from my fiance's mom's to her dad's

(And here there's a cable modem and we have all the stuff to set it up for

multiple computers)"

Hugon says, "Ohh, very nice indeed..."

Hugon is going to disappear under his desk for a moment. He shall return

shortly.

Naphtali chuckles... I should look into food before too long...

Hugon powers up the second computer.

Hugon then wonders where the monitor's power cord went...

Naphtali doesn't have it.... might have a spare, but I'm not sure what good

that will do you.

Hugon sighs. He brings the monitor back with him from Wisconsin, 10 hours

away, and he forgets the friggin' power cord!

Hugon says, "BRB, going to check van..."

Naphtali grins

Hugon puts a big "Idiot" label on his forehead.

Naphtali says, "Well, it could be worse.... you could have just the power

cable."

Hugon says, "True. I'll just go pick one up at the store tomorrow afternoon."

Naphtali wonders where good ol' Eclipse is....

Hugon shrugs. "No idea."

Hugon says, "Not much."

Taetia says, "Help! Help! I'm being opressed!"

Taetia raises an eyebrow

Taetia nods.

Taetia says, "Gotcha"

Eclipse snorts. "Wha? Where? I'm awake!"

Naphtali chuckles. "Sure you are, Z."

Taetia says, "Btw Eus, get my email?"

Hugon says, "Hmm...why are my traits for Resonance showing up on all 3

areas..."

Hugon says, "When did you send it?"

Taetia says, "Bout an hour or so ago"

Hugon will go check his hotmail and see if it has arrived.

Taetia nods.

You say, "Once we have Elemental, we can start. We're cutting it close to

quorum tonight. Megathan can't make it tonight, either."

Hugon nods.

You say, "I had an interview at this place called 'Columbia Internet',

today..."

Hugon seems to have heard of them before for some reason...

Naphtali giggles. "That's scary..."

You say, "Okay, actually it was called Earthnet, but it sure looked and felt

Taetia snuggles into the comfortable couch

Rahab changes it to sitting -in- the gallery :)

You say, "Hey, Elemental."

Enola Galen ( How are things? )

Hugon is good. He doesn't have to go back to work until Monday and he got a

Hugon should actually really go out and get a copy of V:tM instead.

Taetia is buying Ghouls:Fatal Addiction soon

Taetia says, "Mmm.. vitae.."

Hugon is also waiting for Nagah.

Enola Galen ( Me too. )

Taetia says, "Nagah good!"

Hugon also needs a copy of Bastet and Annassi to complete his Changing Breed

Naphtali needs to hunt down a copy of either Changeling or Hunter.... I'll

probably start with Changeling.

Hugon nods. His local store is having a Changeling blowout, but they don't

have the core book, so I'm basically ignoring it.

Taetia says, "I'd recomened Sorcerer:Revised. Mixes well with most other

systems."

Hugon is waiting for a copy to come in. Some nutter went out and got the last

copy about 2 hours before Eus arrived to buy it.

Hugon says, "Of course, that also means there must be another White Wolf

Naphtali pages, "Matt, David, Jason 'Ulf' and Tiff are goign to see AI.... I

hate to bail and leave you without quorem, though..... "

Naphtali has received your page: "Do what needs done, Naph. I can probably

run one night with only two PCs. I don't have any major wars planned for

tonight."

Hugon looks around the cabal. "We need to head to Alamor."

Naphtali pages, "Ok... Thanks. Sorry about this at the last minute (just

found out). I'll be back after the movie (its starts at 7 which puts me

back at 9:30 or 10."

<OOC> Hugon says, "(test>"

Naphtali has received your page: "That's okay."

Hugon rolled 3d10: 2, 2, 1; totalling 5.

<OOC> Hugon says, "AHHH!"

You say, "DOH! 2 Scourge."

Enola Galen ( Ow )

Hugon sighs and looks at the others. "I just found out where they're heading."

<OOC> Hugon resolves to use WP a lot more often now...

Enola Galen says, "Do we know anything about who their kidnappers are?""

<OOC> You say, "btw, everyone. There's a new and improved command. Roll

Arete xdy. It's just like the roll command, except it also rolls a Scourge

die for you. When the Scourge die comes up a 1, it announces the Backlash to

the PC and the GM, and also resets your Scourge trait to 0. Neat, huh?"

Hugon says, "Only that they're travelling in a boat that looks like it should

be scrapped and used for firewood."

<OOC> Hugon says, "Ohh, nice. So, it's Roll Arete 3d10 if you have 3 Arete?"

Enola Galen says, "Do we know how many of them there are, then?""

<OOC> Hugon says, "Did I make that out?"

<OOC> You say, "Yes. Rahab added it. The big bonus for me is it even tells

me how much of a Backlash you get."

You say, "No. You have a rough idea that it isn't an army and it isn't fewer

than 4 people plus Iph."

Hugon says, "There aren't a lot of people, but aside from the princess, there

are at least four people there, maybe more."

<OOC> Hugon points to his familiar background and hopes that Eclipse has seen

the "Familiars can nullify Paradox" in the core book...

Enola Galen says, "Right. Do we have any idea where they're going to? I mean,

they can't intened to aimlessly run around the country with her, right? Who

are they taking her to?""

Enola Galen says, "Anyway, I'm ready to set off any time. Don't know about

everyone else.""

Hugon says, "Who, I don't know. Where, is the capital of Alamor."

<OOC> Hugon says, "Do I know the capital name from my travels?"

You say, "Actually, Familiars eat BACKLASH, not raw Scourge."

You say, "It is roughly 120 miles east and 24 miles south of your current

location."

Hugon says, "It's located a fair distance east and a short ways to out south."

You say, "You must cross the Black Peaks to get there."

Hugon says, "We'll have to go across the Black Peaks somehow."

Enola Galen says, "That doesn't sound nice.""

Hugon says, "Yes, but hopefully, we can have some help going through the Black

Peaks."

Enola Galen says, "Why do people have to give places sinister names? If you

call them the 'Black Peaks', of course you're going to get monsters and

bandits.""

Enola Galen says, "Now, if they were called the 'Happy Peaks' or 'Beautiful

Mountains', people would feel much happier about going there.""

You say, "That's where the Golgothans got their asses kicked in the Kobold

Wars so long ago. The Empire hasn't attempted to annex it since."

Hugon says, "Has anyone else ever been to the Black Peaks?"

Enola Galen says, "Nope. This is all new to me.""

You say, "Your mentor lives in the foothills of them, Hugon."

<OOC> Hugon nods. I take it I'd know how to get there fairly easily then.

<OOC> Hugon says, "To where Narayn is, that is."

You say, "Get there? Yes. Cross the Peaks? No."

Hugon says, "Well, let's set out then. I think we should stop at a friend of

mine's house first. Perhaps he'll be able to help us out a little bit."

Enola Galen says, "Sounds good.""

<OOC> You say, "Jeez! Those buggers get 8 dice on Stealth rolls! Sorry.

Where were we?"

You say, "I assume you're walking, right?"

Enola Galen ( Think so. )

Hugon looks about, makes sure things are tidy, whispers another thank you to

Barlik, and is ready to go.

<OOC> Hugon says, "Well, I could go ahead, but that might be a bad idea..."

<OOC> Hugon will probably roll 3 1's...

Hugon is talking about the various places he's travelled during his life,

explaining what the various lands are like, both in the Umbra and in the

'Real World'.

<OOC> You say, "Never split the party. It pisses off the GM..."

<OOC> Hugon says, "We're walking to Narayn's I believe."

You say, "The first day of your journey..."

Eclipse rolled 10d10: 3, 6, 7, 1, 8, 5, 2, 2, 1, 5; totalling 40.

You say, "...passes quietly until noon, when you spot a two-horse wagon coming

toward you from the other direction."

Enola Galen ( What size is it? Wint-sized? )

<OOC> Hugon says, "Can we see drivers? Is it a covered wagon?"

You say, "Around here, EVERYTHING is wint-sized. It's a covered wagon. The

driver appears to be alone."

Hugon moves to the side of the road to allow the wagon to pass.

You say, "Give me a Per + Alertness, dif 7."

Hugon rolled 6d10: 10, 8, 4, 8, 7, 9; totalling 46.

<OOC> Hugon says, "Wow..."

<OOC> You say, "The dice are just magic-a-phobic, I guess..."

<OOC> Hugon looks up at the dice lords. "Where were those during my Arete

Roll, huh?"

<OOC> Hugon says, "5 succ"

Enola Galen rolled 2d10: 9, 5; totalling 14.

Hugon has received your page: "This situation is odd. The driver is not a

wint. He's an Olmec. What's more, the entire front of the wagon is covered

in blood and claw marks. The driver's clothes look like a Wint tried to wear

them - torn and split at every seam. The driver himself seems utterly calm,

casually directing his horses."

Enola Galen ( check )

Enola Galen has received your page: "The driver is too small to be a wint."

<OOC> Hugon says, "How big are the claw marks?"

You say, "The wagon draws nearer. Enola, you can see more details. The

driver is not a wint. He's an Olmec. What's more, the entire front of the

wagon is covered in blood and claw marks that look like they were made by a

small bear. The driver's clothes look like a Wint tried to wear them - torn

and split at every seam. The driver himself seems utterly calm, casually

directing his horses."

<OOC> You say, "Your answer's in there somewhere, Hugon..."

Hugon watches, somewhat surprised.

<OOC> Hugon says, "Yep, found it"

Enola Galen ( whispers) "Something's not right. He looks like he's been in a

fight." )

Hugon nods slightly. "Yes, it does. Maybe an animal attacked him, or someone

else we've dealt with." He whispers this.

Enola Galen says, "Should we introduce ourselves?""

Driver, "Excuse me, travellers. You aren't bandits, are you?" His voice is

deep and clear, but utterly calm.

Enola Galen says, "No, we're just ordinary travellers!""

Driver :smiles. "Good. Do you know if there is a stream nearby? I need to

wash."

<OOC> Hugon says, "There was a stream at the Node, yes?"

You say, "Yes."

Enola Galen says, "I'm not sure. I think we passed one a while back...?""

Hugon says, "Yes, there is a stream about a days walk that way. Hugon points

to where they came from."

Hugon says, "If I may ask, are you alright? It appears that you may have had

trouble yourself with some bandits."

Driver, "A few attacked me about two hours ago. You'd think they'd never even

heard of us the way they ran from me. People around here are too used to

spell-slingers doing all the killing." He spits the word 'spell-slinger'.

Driver, "Had I been hungry, I might have hunted them, culled their herd

somewhat."

Enola Galen says, "This seems like a good time to reaffirm that we're not

hostile.""

Hugon nods. "Yes, there are many ways to protect oneself, whether you posess

magic or not. These lands have not been friendly of late."

<OOC> Hugon says, "I hope that was OOC Enola..."

Driver, "Good," he laughs, "because I AM hungry, now. All olmecs are not

magicians, as they discovered. I don't travel alone because I am a fool. I

travel alone because I no longer require the protection a pack affords."

Enola Galen says, "You're a warrior, then?""

You say, "He barks a laugh."

Driver, "From the day I was born. Chosen by the moon of Correspondence to

fight the dark gods for Malakai no matter the distance from my home."

Hugon says, "Ahh. You've traveled a fair amount then, I imagine. Evil has

spread to many places in this time."

Hugon says, "Even the Island of Hospitalers isn't safe anymore."

Driver, "Yes. We are on the cusp of Entropy, too, so it is bound to grow

worse before it improves. Cursed Time has placed me weeks behind my prey.

How I shall bite his throat when I catch him, though! He left a dozen

soldiers guarding his empty bedroom. I was forced to retreat from his lair

or die in it, though it was a difficult choice."

Enola Galen says, "If you don't mind me asking, who is your enemy?""

You don't perceive a character by the name of "here. He has been using cubs

for his infernal magical experiments. _I_ will show him the heat of a Black

Flame, by the spirits!'" around here.

Driver, "That fool the people here call Emperor. He has been using cubs for

his infernal magical experiments. _I_ will show him the heat of a Black

Flame, by the spirits!"

Enola Galen says, "That's nice. Everyone should have a hobby.""

Hugon says, "The Emperor...we've had dealings with him, which I'm not exactly

eager to repeat."

You say, "His hackles rise slightly. 'Dealings? What kind of dealings?'"

Hugon says, "The type where he tries to kill us."

Enola Galen says, "His tourism policy needs some serious revisions. And his

urban planning, but that's another matter entirely.""

Driver, "One of the Weard's bureaucrats, then. Golgotha is as backwards a

civilization as any I've seen in my travels. The Emperor deprives his people

of freedom, and he seems intent upon turning sacred groves into ships. The

Druanae like it no more than we. They are a decent kind of wizard."

Enola Galen says, "Druanae? You've got them here too?""

Hugon nods. "It's a strange decision, I must say. Not at all logical or

ethical. I've met many different people and can't understand his actions

from what I've heard."

!!! A checkpoint has begun. During the next few minutes, you will experience

slow response time (AKA lag). Be patient, grasshopper.

!!! The checkpoint has finished. After a suspenseful 2 seconds, the world is

saved once more.

Driver, "A handful spread across the continent. They and the Spirit Wardens

are not creatures of the pack. Ask a Spirit Warden to talk to a Guardian,

and he'll merrily befriend the Umbrood, but ask him to speak to another

person? Pssh! He'll freeze up like the stone he sits on."

Driver, "His minions have neither fur or claw of me, nor will they, unless I

bury it in their flesh."

Hugon says, "Yes, Sharing the knowledge is important in keeping people from

being ignorant from what is going on. Speaking with Spirits has it's

advantages, but useless to anyone else unless shared with others.""

Hugon says, "Ahh. It's a definate advantage, and one that is not at all

pleasent to overcome if he holds it over you."

Eclipse rolled 6d10: 3, 6, 10, 1, 8, 8; totalling 36.

Eclipse rolled 6d10: 7, 10, 1, 6, 4, 8; totalling 36.

<OOC> Hugon says, "Why do I not like the looks of that..."

<OOC> You say, "Never you mind..."

You say, "There is a slight shuffling sound from inside the wagon."

Enola Galen says, "So, where are you going now?""

Driver, "Well, I'd best be moving on. I have a lot of ground to cover and a

sea voyage at the end. Good day to you, travellers, and may the moons shine

upon you."

Hugon casts a quick glance to Enola.

Driver, "I am bound for Landsend, for now. I might have to spill some blood

to learn my destination after that."

<OOC> Hugon wonders if he risks it...Let's see through the friggin' wagon and

see what's making the noise...

You say, "Be my guest. Cor 1? Dif 3, 2 suc."

<OOC> Hugon says, "Burns a WP..."

Hugon rolled 3d10: 8, 1, 5; totalling 14.

<OOC> Hugon says, "Thank you Will..."

Enola Galen says, "Well, good luck. We're looking for a princess ourselves.""

<OOC> Hugon says, "2 Succ w/WP Point"

You say, "There appear to be four or five large dogs and a huge wolfman

looking thing in the back."

Driver, "Ah, the classic quest."

Hugon says, "Oh, on the chance we meet these bandits, what did they look like?"

Driver, "A rowdy bunch of twenty. Wait. Make that five wints, armed with

bows and swords. Not much of a threat and complete cowards to boot. Show

them a bit of fur, and they'll leave you be."

Enola Galen says, "Thanks for the tip.""

Hugon nods. "Thanks for the warning. Best of luck to you."

Hugon seems somewhat startled by something, but is trying to remain calm.

You say, "The driver and his covered wagon continue along the road. There's a

bit of blood on the back of the wagon, as well, but a tarp covers any opening

in the cover."

Hugon watches the wagon for a moment, waiting for them to be out of earshot.

Enola Galen says, "Interesting man.""

<OOC> Hugon wonders what he would roll to recognize (if he can) what was in

that wagon...

You say, "Int + Lore, dif 7"

Hugon rolled 2d10: 5, 6; totalling 11.

<OOC> Hugon says, "Nope"

Hugon says, "Interesting man...remind me never to get on his bad side..."

You say, "So, I trust you continue along the road?"

Enola Galen ( Seems so. )

Enola Galen says, "But what did he mean, 'show them some fur?'""

<OOC> Hugon says, "Yep, but I'm definately a bit more on the lookout now."

Hugon says, "Well, I think it might have something to do with what was in his

wagon. Something I haven't seen before."

Hugon is whispering to the others.

Enola Galen says, "Oh?""

Hugon whispers, "Something...it looked a bit like a man, but also like a

wolf...curious, but I don't think I'd want to inquire about it. I heard

something moving around and wondered if the bandits were nearby."

Hugon whispers, "Sometime I'll have to speak with the spirits and see if they

know of such a being."

Hugon continues on.

<OOC> Hugon wonders if he gets his shield awakening roll yet.

You say, "The rest of the day passes quietly, and night begins to fall.

(tomorrow, Hugon, tomorrow)"

<OOC> Hugon says, "Okay."

Hugon looks about as night begins to fall to see where exactly they are.

You say, "It appears there was a battle here, or perhaps a pack of giant

wolves slaughtered a herd of cattle in the middle of the road. In any case,

there are no corpses to reveal what actually died in this place. To the

north is a small grove of trees that looks like it might provide shelter

against the weather and prying eyes. To the south is an empty field, though

you can't see a farmhouse in the dim twilight."

<OOC> Hugon says, "About how far are we away from our destination?"

You say, "You've traveled about 24 miles east-southeast today."

Hugon looks around. "Well, I guess we know where our friend messed up his

wagon."

You say, "That leaves 96 more miles, as the crow flies."

<OOC> Hugon says, "4 days of travel...gads, I need Corr 4..."

You say, "Rain clouds are sweeping in from the west."

<OOC> Hugon says, "We can't or can see the farmhouse (is somewhat confused

about the wording of the desc>?"

Enola Galen says, "I think we know where that battle with the bandits

was....they might still be here.""

<OOC> You say, "Can NOT see. Where there is a farm, there should be

buildings, but there aren't."

Hugon looks down at the blood. "Well, if it wasn't so mixed together, I'd say

we could take a look, but who knows what will happen with this mix."

Hugon says, "In any event, I don't like the looks of that storm. We need to

find some shelter."

<OOC> You say, "brb"

Enola Galen says, "I could put something together to protect against the

weather if it comes to that.""

You say, "b"

Enola Galen says, "What we really need are some horses.""

Hugon says, "And someone to teach those of us who aren't riders how to ride

the things."

You say, "Octavius has a horse, but the rest of the cabal doesn't."

<OOC> Hugon says, "Naphtali has a donkey..."

You say, "True."

<OOC> Hugon wonders when his familiar is coming back...

Hugon says, "I've rarely needed the services of a horse myself."

Enola Galen says, "If only I'd got round to building that great gasbag, it

would make things so much simpler....""

<OOC> Hugon says, "Could I make an Arete roll to determine if there is

anything in the area more complex than a standard animal? Corr + Life

effect?"

You say, "Your familiar has reached the Black Peaks, and is now on its way

back."

You say, "Sure. Cor 2, Life 1 would do it. Dif 4, 2 suc."

Hugon rolled 3d10: 9, 6, 9; totalling 24.

<OOC> Hugon says, "3 Succ"

You say, "No."

Hugon says, ""Let's head south for a little bit and make camp there. This

isn't a suitable place, I believe.""

Enola Galen says, "Why not?""

You say, "The field looks like it was once used to grow wheat. The harvest

must have taken place a month ago or more, and now it is empty."

Hugon says, ""We're not alone. The north isn't exactly unoccupied.""

Hugon looks around. "Hmm, interesting."

Enola Galen says, "What?""

Hugon says, "This field. Looks like the harvest took place earlier."

Enola Galen says, "Worth a try, I suppose.""

Hugon starts heading to the farmhouse.

Enola Galen says, "Do we have a backup plan in case they turn out to be loyal

Imperial subjects?""

Enola Galen smiles. "Paranoia, what an interesting new experience for me."

Hugon says, "I'll knock and see who is there. Stay out of sight until I find

out who we're dealing with. If they are, we'll find another option."

Enola Galen says, "Got it.""

<OOC> Hugon says, "Okay, heading to the farmhouse."

You say, "The trip is a wet and muddy walk, and you are thoroughly soaked by

the time you reach the farmhouse. It is a fairly large building."

<OOC> Hugon says, "Large for a farmhouse?"

You say, "A little large for a farmhouse, as though it were originally built

with more people in mind."

Hugon makes sure the others aren't in sight and knocks on the door.

Enola Galen stays out of sight.

You say, "You hear the scrape of a chair across a wooden floor, followed by

approaching footsteps. A wint man opens the door. He speaks to you in

Golgothan."

Farmer, "Good evening. You've picked a foul night to be out and about. Have

you eaten?"

You say, "It is almost as though he has been expecting you..."

Hugon shakes his head. "No, I'm afraid the bandits are out and about, and

though I've yet to cross them, I've yet to eat. There was a battle nearby it

appears. A foul night. I expect it would put the Emperor in a foul mood

himself."

You say, "Inside, you can see a large dining table with 13 chairs. Six of

them are occupied by a woman, three young men, a young woman, and two girls."

<OOC> Hugon says, "Wints?"

You say, "Yes."

Hugon says, "Though I've traveled a fair bit, I still don't care for this type

of weather."

Farmer, "Yes, bandits prowl the road near here. They avoid the farms, though.

We have nothing worth stealing except food, and that is not the kind of

treasure they value. Come in, come in. Your friends, also. All are welcome

in this place, if they be of a good heart."

Hugon nods and motions to the rest of the cabal. "Thank you, kind sir. If I

may ask, it does appear you knew of our coming. I mean not to sound rude,

but it is somewhat surprising."

Enola Galen comes out into view. "Thanks. Foul weather coming."

Farmer, "My wife, Rahab, has a knack for guessing when we will have visitors.

I don't know how she does it."

Enola Galen says, "Get a lot of travellers along this way, do you?""

Hugon nods. "Women's intuition, I imagine."

Farmer, "We get our fair share, being this close to the road. But come. Sit.

Eat. And perhaps my children will entertain you with a song or tale or two.

Eclipse [to Hugon]: You have the distinct impression that the farmer is bigger

And the mother is even paler than most wints.

<OOC> Hugon says, "...hooves..."

Enola Galen ( First werewolves, now demons. )

Rahab, "Good evening and welcome." Her voice comes out as a whisper, and she

seems to be talking to the elves more than to the others.

<OOC> Hugon says, "Elves? I thought they were Wints?"

<OOC> You say, "Don't give me any ideas..."

<OOC> Hugon says, "Oh, in the party..."

You say, "They are wints, but they seem particularly interested in the elves

in your group."

Hugon slowly enters, looking around.

Hugon says, "Good evening, miss. It appears that you were expecting us."

Enola Galen walks in, and looks round.

You say, "The entire family looks...odd. They appear to get along too well.

They sing too much. They have too much food. They don't quite share the

same appearances the way a family normally does."

<OOC> Hugon debates the whole peaking in the Umbra trick...

Rahab, "Yes. I noticed you walking our way just before sunset. I had a sense

you would want some shelter from the rain." Her voice is still a whisper.

Hugon thinks, "Barlik, if you're still watching over us, give us a sign about

this place."

Enola Galen says, "I'm honoured to meet you all. Good thing you showed up when

you did. It was either this or a damp, bandit-infested wilderness.""

You say, "The sound of a lightning strike tears through the air from outside,

but the candles on the table do not even flicker."

Hugon mentally debates if that's a good of bad sign (unless he would

instictively know).

<OOC> Hugon says, "(Or even a sign at all)"

<OOC> You say, "It's called 'your GM is evil'"

Enola Galen says, "What the--""

You say, "The youngest boy says, 'Amber. No. We have guests. We mustn't

upset them!'"

Hugon blinks and looks up. "No harm done. Just a bit surprising, I must say.

I do hope that doesn't ruin dinner."

Farmer, "Forgive my daughter. She enjoys her mischief too much, I fear. I

promise the other food is quite unable to move of its own accord." He smiles.

Hugon nods. "So, roast it is for dinner? I do hope we're not intruding."

Enola Galen says, "I knew someone who used to do that with plants.""

You say, "The farmer gives you an odd look, as though he expected more of a

reaction than this."

Farmer, "Please sit," he says in a singsong voice."

Hugon says, "I've traveled a fair bit. I've seen some strange things in my

<OOC> You say, "Burn WP or obey."

Hugon opts to sit down.

Enola Galen sits down.

You say, "The other members of the cabal also sit."

Enola Galen ( Keeping an eye out for any chainsaws anyone might have left

Farmer, "Eat and drink," he fairly sings. "Then we shall begin with the

tale-telling and the song-singing."

<OOC> You say, "WP or obey."

<OOC> Hugon wonders if he'd need to burn WP to first check and see if the

fruits and vegetables of every possible description, fresh hot breads,

cheeses, milk, you name it."

Hugon goes for some beef, mashed potatoes, and milk.'

You say, "Beer and wine and fruit juice and whiskey and vodka and...you get

<OOC> Hugon says, "Gotcha."

You say, "The meal is almost ritualized by the family. When everyone has

eaten their fill, the farmers beckon you into the living room, where a warm

fire crackles in the hearth."

Hugon follows the family, looking around.

Enola Galen says, "Mmmm, just like mother used to make.""

Farmer, "Now, you must join us for song-singing, tale-telling, and dancing."

Enola Galen says, "No thanks. I'm full up. And besides, I'm not that good at

any of the above.""

Hugon nods. "I shall do my best, though I'll admit my voice isn't that of a

professional vocalist."

Rahab, "We insist." There is a note of intensity on her face, daring you to

refuse. Tell us one good tale or sing us one good song or give us a good

riddle or a new dance, and each of you will have repaid our hospitality. You

wouldn't take advantage of our kindness and generosity, would you?"

<OOC> Enola Galen says, "What does Naphtali make of this? Him and his Fae

Blood merit?"

Taetia has received your page: "This might very well change the course of the

entire game. There's more than one way to write a riddle..."

Taetia pages, "Bwahahaha.. I regret I wasn't around to see what all happened..

Hugon paces a little bit. "When my mentor first told me of what happened in

Gogotha, I connected that and the princess together. He doesn't think

they're related, but that was my first instinct. And here she's heading this

way, or at least onto the continent. In a small boat, they can't stay at sea

long. Something may have happened, but the Fae confirmed that, at least to

my logic, that my instinct was correct. The heart of the problem lies here

and not with the princess."

Naphtali look up from a book he had from his donkey. A random one with some

hereticcal ideas connecting Fae with the gods or something like that.

Naphtali says, "And I was called 'Harmonizer'"

Hugon looks over at Naphtali. "Anything on Nine Homefires in there?"

<OOC> Naphtali has no idea, looks to the ST.

Enola Galen is deep in thought, trying to remember how changelings come to be.

Eclipse [to Naphtali]: No. She did say that you would have to kill an Epagan

to save yourself, though.

<OOC> Naphtali says, "Save ourselves? From anything in particular, or just

'to save ourselves'"

<OOC> You say, "Actually, they aren't really changelings in the traditional

sense. Fae sometimes take on flesh to interact with mortals outside of the

Dreaming and the Chaos Pockets."

<OOC> Enola Galen says, "How they come to be in the sense of how they

reproduce."

Eclipse [to Naphtali]: 'You will have to kill an Epagan to save yourselves,'

<Logout> Taetia has disconnected on Fri Jul

Taetia has disconnected.

<OOC> Enola Galen says, "Goodbye."

The resolution of Taetia fades. With a hiss of static her disconnected body

implodes into a single point of light, then blinks out of existence.

Enola Galen has received your page: "Little is understood about Fae

reproduction. Some scholars claim that the Fae steal children from mortals,

transforming them into new Fae in the Dreaming. Others believe that they

steal the souls of dreamers, killing the body but fashioning the mortal souls

into Fae 'bodies'. A few claim that the Fae take mortal lovers, for that is

the only way they can reproduce. Some say that the Fae come into existence

by means of spontaneous generation, humanoid bubbles of raw Chaos."

Naphtali has received your page: "There are a hundred theories on the subject,

but no evidence has ever been produced to support any of them. There are a

many tales of Fae impregnating mortal women, only to steal the baby shortly

after it is born, but it is difficult to be certain of their authenticity."

<OOC> You say, "I've finished paging..."

<OOC> Hugon says, "*nod*"

Enola Galen sighs.

Naphtali sits silently staring, not looking at anything.

<OOC> You say, "Never go to a Fae for a straight answer, or to a GM, for that

matter..."

Hugon chews his lip a little bit as he paces about, debating.

Hugon says, ""We can't stay here. That much is certain.""

Enola Galen says, "Right. Of course not.""

Naphtali shakes his head, bringing himself back. "No.... But what do we do?"

Hugon bows his head. "My instinct tells me that the threat lies with the

Emperor. Logic seems to disagree with me. But, it seems little on this trip

has conformed to logic."

<OOC> You say, "Welcome to Malakai!"

Enola Galen says, "I can certainly confirm that.""

Naphtali stands up slowly, putting his book away. "Why, then, was the

princess captured?" (OOC Or have I just not found that section of the log

yet?)

Hugon says, "I'm inclined to believe the Fae and try to determine what can be

done about the events here."

<OOC> Hugon says, "No, you didn't miss anything there."

Enola Galen says, "I assumed you knew that.""

<OOC> Naphtali says, "Just so I don't spend 20 minutes looking for them, which

events? (Besides the Fae showing up)"

Naphtali shakse his head. (ooc Unless I do knwo that and the player has just

forgotten) "No, I've only been trying to get her back."

Hugon says, "I don't know, Naphtali. I wish I could tell you. Perhaps it's

our duty, even destiny, to be here. Perhaps by ignoring that, we as good as

kill thousands here. I cannot answer your question, Naphtali, though I hope

we can find out the answer soon."

Hugon says, "That is to say, by ignoring the Fae, we doom thousands."

You say, "It might be because Iph is the daughter of Argos Guiltbearer."

Naphtali takes a deep breath. "Then what is the problem that we have to try

to solve? The stange xenophobia here?"

Hugon nods. "Well, it seems to be so. It's not common, I imagine, and if you

want to kill of thousands, that's one way to do it."

Hugon says, "How, that's another question."

Naphtali says, "So that is what we have to try to quash, the xenophobia, the

hatred?"

Hugon slowly nods. "I see no other way."

Enola Galen says, "Hold on just one second. First, what are you going to do to

accomplish this? Secondly, this was not what I signed on for.""

Eclipse [to Hugon]: "You might be interested to learn that your owl is back.

It does not look as though it has flown 240 miles, and is as fresh and

energetic as you are..."

Naphtali turns to Enola. "But will you help, if it would stop the deaths of

thousands?"

Hugon watches his owl return and asks it what it has learned.

Enola Galen says, "I guess so. But what do thousands pay?""

Hugon has received your page: "Learned? Stay clear of Faerie food! Chasing

that roast was fun, though."

Hugon pages, ""Did you reach my mentor?""

Hugon has received your page: "That is a STRANGE response, Hugon, since your

owl wasn't there last night... 'Reach your mentor? I've been with you the

whole time.'"

Hugon scratches his head in the utmost confusion.

Naphtali sighs. "Probably nothing. We might die without a single person

knowing what we are trying to do, but if we succeed, if that happens, we stop

the deaths of thousands. Riches cannot be compared to even one life."

<OOC> You say, "Well, I think this is officially the most confusing session

I've run in either group so far. Fun, huh?"

Enola Galen says, "Look, when I joined you, it was simple. Save the princess,

get the gold, save my inheritance.""

<OOC> Hugon says, "Fun yes. Confusing, yes. IC Frustrating, yes. I think

Hugon's even more confused than when he started out."

Enola Galen says, "But I can't save thousands. What the hell do I know about

saving thousands? I'm not a full Artificer. I'm not even much of an elf. I

can't do this.""

Naphtali says, "Does it matter to you that people, like you and me, will die?

I don't know how we're going to do it, but damnit I'm going to try. I'm not

going to let a single person die, even if it costs me everything."

Naphtali says, "Yes you can. All it takes the effort."

Hugon looks at everyone. "Listen, I don't know why, and I don't know how, but

I do know something has to be done. I've traveled a lot, and instinct almost

always proves to be right. I could be wrong. I admit that, but if I am

right, then we've probably done a lot more good by not directly helping the

Emperor."

Hugon pages, "Been with me? You're sure?"

<OOC> Hugon wonders what the heck his his character upside the head and made

him so confused.

Hugon has received your page: "'Of course. Where else would I be?'"

<OOC> You say, "Fae will do that to a person..."

Hugon pages, "...Of course. I'm sorry, things just have been a bit strange

lately. Maybe I'm just imagining things."

Enola Galen says, "Oh, I just want some time to think this over! Things were

so much simpler yesterday. Why did they have to become so damn complex? Why

didn't we just stay away from that house? Then things would still be simpler,

and I wouldn't have....oh....""

Enola Galen stops talking, and just shakes her head in confusion.

<OOC> Hugon says, "Travel Rule #35...never stay at a stranger's farmhouse."

Hugon has received your page: "You aren't getting sick on me, are you Spirit

Warden? You shouldn't have been sleeping in the rain in the first place."

Hugon goes completely still.

Enola Galen says, "I'm just confused I guess....sorry, I'm not turning out to

be much of a hero, am I?""

Hugon pages, "Spirit Warden...how often have you refered to me as that?"

Naphtali smiles to Enola, offering a hug. "I don't mean to berate you, I'm

sorry."

Enola Galen accepts. "How do you do it?"

Enola Galen says, "Be so calm, I mean?""

Hugon has received your page: "The owl stammers. 'Spirit who? What are you

talking about, Hugon?'"

Naphtali shrugs slowly. "I don't know.... It's a gift I've found and I

treasure. I just wish I could show others sometimes."

Hugon pages, "...Nothing. I must have some water in my ears, that's all."

!!! A checkpoint has begun. During the next few minutes, you will experience

slow response time (AKA lag). Be patient, grasshopper.

!!! The checkpoint has finished. After a suspenseful 2 seconds, the world is

Hugon seems to come out of his trance. "Harmonizer...it fits you, you know."

Hugon has received your page: "Are you sure you're feeling alright. You don't

have a fever, do you? I wouldn't want you mistaking me for a chamber pot

again..."

Naphtali smiles, almost blushing. "Thank you. Now, what are we going to do?"

Enola Galen says, "This is the bit that always gets left out.""

Hugon pages, "I'm sure...I'll be fine."

Hugon says, "We go west and find that man who drove the wagon. That's what I

think we should do, at least."

Enola Galen says, "The heroes rode off and saved the world. Sure, but never

mind the time the heroes spent sitting around in a field, trying to figure

out where to go.""

Enola Galen pages, "Where did he say he was going?"

Hugon says, "For now, we're too few. We'll need help. I think that's a good

person to have as an ally."

Enola Galen has received your page: "Landsend - the port city you got chased

out of."

Hugon pages, "Oh, by the way, I'm sorry about the chamber pot mistake. That

was in the cave, wasn't it?"

Naphtali frowns. "So we just leave the princess in the hands of those who

took her?"

Enola Galen says, "He said he was going to Landsend. The place where we got

our oh-so-friendly reception.""

<OOC> Naphtali says, "And besides, he was probably just a random encounter.

(uses his phantom dot of metagaming)"

Hugon says, "For now. If our paths cross, which they probably will, we'll

hopefully find the answer to that mystery."

<OOC> Hugon loves using Random Encounters though...they're so much fun.

Hugon has received your page: "'The cave? You did that years ago. You're

SURE it's not about to happen again?..."

Naphtali frowns, his face lost in thought.

Hugon pages, "(ooc> Years ago, do I have any idea what the owl is talking

about?"

<OOC> You say, "They're ALL random encounters, if you think about it..."

<OOC> Hugon thinks people are going to have fun looking at his pages...

<OOC> Enola Galen says, "The Werewolf Wagon and the Fae House of Deranged

Blasphemous Sec being two of them?"

<OOC> Naphtali says, "Yeah, but I'm just used to you, Z, ranting to me at the

Union while you were working about how your party spent 3 sessions chasing a

random encounter."

Hugon has received your page: "If you were halucinating half as much as he

claims, you might not remember the incident. You have a strange sense that

he HAS mentioned the incident before, but the memory feels...fake...somehow...

"

<OOC> Hugon says, "Uh-oh..."

Naphtali murmers something, too quite to really catch.

<OOC> Eclipse giggles madly. "I love my job!"

Hugon pages, "I'm sure. I guess we should find a warm inn and get a proper

night's rest this evening."

<OOC> Naphtali has had the luck of not being in a camapign of his before, so I

got to hear about all his evil plans and how his party was screwing up so

badly or throwing him for a loop.

<OOC> Enola Galen says, "Us?"

<OOC> Naphtali says, "Not this party, he's good about not letting players in a

group know his plans."

Hugon says, "I know it's hard, Naphtali, and I know things are working out

rather strangely. I'll promise you this. As soon as we finish whatever it

is we must accomplish, I will help you find out what is going on with the

princess and assist you in helping her however I can."

<OOC> Eclipse wishes he had someone he could tell his wicked plans to...

<OOC> Hugon says, "You can tell me, honest! @#;+) Now, the wisdom of that is

questionable..."

Naphtali shakes his head slowly, his face in his hands. "But I can't just let

her go off... to die...."

Hugon says, "We don't know that. They've had her for some time now. If their

plan was to kill her, they would have done that long ago."

Naphtali sighs. "Yes, but..." He sinks down, his eyes locked on the muddy

ground.

Hugon says, "She is an Epagan. Would she be able to live knowing that though

we went and rescued her, thousands more could die?"

Naphtali says, "No...."

Hugon crouches down and lays his hand on Naphtali's shoulder. "I'm sorry."

Enola Galen says, "I'd like to do both if we can.""

Naphtali nods slowly. "It ok.... I just can't help thinking about what (name

of chick) told me..."

Enola Galen says, "Look, civilisation isn't going to collapse in a day. We can

afford to stop and plan.""

Hugon says, "As would I. I think that this is the way to help both. "

Hugon looks at Naptali. "May I ask what it was?"

<OOC> You say, "'To see the plot in a random encounter, and the villain in an

ad-libbed NPC...'"

<OOC> Naphtali smacks Eclipse around.

<OOC> Enola Galen says, "Fond memories of the entire adventure in my Rifts

<OOC> You say, "I wasn't talking about YOU..."

<OOC> Hugon summons the powers of the ST-Noculars, able to see into the minds

kidnapping. How? Who? When? Why? One of you must know all or some of this.""

<OOC> You say, "Careful, Hugon. My mind is HEAVILY warded..."

<OOC> Hugon says, "Yes, you've completely screwed up the mentality of my

character. *G*"

Enola Galen ( Mind 5, Metagaming 5, Life 5. Become GM! )

Naphtali speaks as if quoting. "'You will have to kill an Epagan to save

yourselves,'"

<OOC> Enola Galen says, "Mine's none too stable right now, either."

<OOC> Naphtali says, "Naph is good. He's just torn. That whole 'never take

a life' bit is weighing heavily on him. Choosing who lives and who dies."

<OOC> Hugon says, "You guys don't want to know what the Owl has been telling

me..."

<OOC> Naphtali is curious....

<OOC> Hugon says, "Later"

<OOC> Enola Galen says, "Allright, you bastard! We have angst. Are you happy

now, you sick twisted fiend?! (sobs)"

Hugon looks around. "I say we find somewhere warm to rest and to try and

figure things out. I'm still resolved about what needs to be done, but we

need a plan."

Enola Galen says, "Good start.""

<OOC> You say, "Wouldn't want to be accused of false advertising, now would I?"

Naphtali nods. "How does one fight institutionalized hatred?"

Hugon says, "That's what we've got to figure out."

Enola Galen ( shrug) "Institutionalised love?" )

<OOC> Hugon says, "Took the words right out of my mouth."

Naphtali stands up slowly, getting his things ready. "Where shall we go?"

<OOC> Hugon says, "Any small towns around here, maybe with a heavily mixed

population?"

<OOC> Naphtali says, "With this countries xenophobia? We'll be lucky if we

find a town with *one* non wint."

<OOC> Naphtali says, "Although, would there be anything from what I read last

session that might sound like it's still safe?"

<OOC> Hugon says, "Anywhere not in this country?"

You say, "None of the towns in the area is terribly mixed anymore, but the

smaller villages take a slightly less dim view of other races, as long as

you're only passing through. There is a village of 200-300 people a few

miles east of here called Sunam."

Hugon says, "As long as we're just passing through, many smaller villages

won't be as against us. There's a place a few miles to the east called Sunam

that might be a good place to rest for a night."

Naphtali nods slowly. "Well... We best get started."

Enola Galen says, "Suits me just fine.""

Hugon nods, collects himself, looks to see that the owl is here, and beckons

for everyone to follow.

Naphtali follow with his donkey.

You say, "You reach Sunam shortly after noon. (everyone give me a Per +

Hugon looks at the graves.

Naphtali stops at the graves and says a soft prayer.

<OOC> Naphtali says, "And while I'm there, do they say anything?"

<OOC> You say, "Who, the graves?"

<OOC> Hugon says, "Well, I could animate them..."

<OOC> Enola Galen says, "(Out to Lunch)"

<OOC> Naphtali says, "what's written on the tombstones (if there are any)"

Naphtali gets a concerned look when trouble is mentioned.

Innkeeper, "Three strangers arrived a few days ago, asking about some woman.

Then, a bunch of other strangers showed up the day before yesterday with a

woman matching her description. Without explaining themselves, the three

attacked the other strangers, and were killed.

Addendum (Al's vision):

Al: (12:47 PM) "Once long ago in my home land the was a wealth man blessed with two sons. He loved them both dearly and they him. One day when the son where adults, he tryed to deside which of them to make his heir. He could not. So he desided that he would have his sons race to the next town across a charted wasteland. The sons agreed. The father then had a condtion he added. The sons whos horse arrived at the next town last would be the winner. The sons set off on their horses and head as slowly as they can acroos the wastland. By sun down they have not left town, ony going about 300 yrads. The desided to go to an inn for the night and talk about their delema. Both men where rich by their own efforts and didn't really want the money iheridence enough to risk die for it. If they continued as they did across the wasteland then would surly die of thirst. The asked the innkeep for advise and he gave them but two words. The next morning the two sons race raced off across the wasteland at a gallop. Now I ask you what two words the inkeeper gave the sons as advise.(waits for answers)

Caligo: (12:57 PM) I'm back. Let me think for a bit...

Al: (12:58 PM) Take your time. It's better if they get it wrong.

Caligo: (1:08 PM) Trade horses.

Al: (1:08 PM) Yes.

Caligo: (1:10 PM) Well, it very nearly stumped me, so I think they'll be adequately impressed even if they do figure out the answer. No need to roll. Give me a couple of minutes to generate the encounter...

Caligo: (1:37 PM) Rahab (the 'mother') stays with you near the hearth fire when everyone else has gone to bed. She smiles at you, and you realize for the first time that she doesn't have any teeth. Her skin is pale and her hair is jet black, and there is an odd odor of decaying vegetation about her.

Caligo: (1:37 PM) She speaks in a whisper, "You carry many odd tales from your homeland, Farlander, but you shall bring odder tales back with you. You must learn to walk in the Light if you are to find the One Who Casts the Shadow. When you at last find the power to return to your homeland, it will only be a matter of time before all the people of the world will die of Darkness."

Caligo: (1:38 PM) ooc Confusing enough for you? Do you feel like a part of the group, again?

Al: (1:39 PM) "I would not wish ti return home. MY homeland is lost to me. I would stay he and stop the darkness that destroyed my family form speading and destroying others.

Al: (1:40 PM) ooc Actually I am not that confused.

Caligo: (1:41 PM) "Your companions will die if you do not return to your homeland, and the One Who Casts the Shadow will spread his blanket across the world.

Al: (1:44 PM) But why would they die if I don't go and the world will die if I do. Does that mean than we are all going to die. All mortals die. Is there a way to push back the dark?

Caligo: (1:44 PM) "Demons will march in Light, and you will know that the One Who Casts the Shadow is preparing to give half the world power greater than that of the gods."

Al: (1:45 PM) Power greater than the Gods? How can that be?

Caligo: (1:47 PM) "You will find knowledge ere you return to your homeland, but you will not like the answers you receive. For now, though, it is time for mortal men to sleep. Sleep..."

She hums a lullaby, and you feel a great drowse overcome you. Your eyes close.

Al: (1:48 PM) Ocatvius falls asleep.

Al: (1:49 PM) Cool.

Caligo: (1:49 PM) Your last waking memories are the scent of death all around you and the sensation of her cold lips pressed against yours, breathing into you like the breath of a corpse...

You wake up in the muddy field with everyone else, strangely refreshed. (+2 WP)

Caligo: (1:49 PM) ooc Are you SURE you're not confused?

Al: (1:50 PM) A little.
