Character Creation Summary

Step One: Concept

Choose a concept.

Step Two: Nature

Choose a Nature as normal.

Step Three: Attributes

All Attributes begin at one dot.
Prioritize the three categories: Physical, Social, Mental (6/4/3)
Choose Physical Traits: Strength, Dexterity, Stamina

Step Five: Choose Edge and Identify Available Heroics

Choose one (1) Edge from those listed for the hero's Favored Ability. Additional Edges may be purchased with bonus points and may be from any Ability for which the hero meets the requirements.
A mortal who begins play with magic (see Occult Edges) may purchase additional spells with bonus points.
Identify the Heroics available to your character.

Step Six: Select Backgrounds

Heroes receive 5 dots for Backgrounds, though none may be higher than 3 without spending bonus points. While many of these share the names of those of the Solars or Dragon-Blooded, some changes have been made to reflect the lower power levels of mortal heroes (see Chapter Three). They are: Allies, Artifact, Backing, Contacts, Familiar, Followers, Henchmen, Influence, Library, Manse, Mentor, Reputation, and Resources.

Step Seven: Choose Primary Virtue and Distribute Virtues

Heroes choose one Primary Virtue. The hero's rating in this Virtue must be equal to or higher than any other Virtue.

Choose Virtues (5; none may be raised above 3 except with Bonus Points).

Step Eight: Finishing Touches

Calculate Willpower by adding the mortal's two highest Virtues together as normal. Willpower cannot be raised above 8 with freebie points unless at least two Virtues are 4 or higher.

Record Essence (1). This may not be raised by means of bonus points.

If the hero is a magician (has the Occult Edge First Circle Magic), calculate maximum Essence pool (Willpower + Primary Virtue + 1) and select Quirks (up to Heroism x 2 points) and Taboos (up to Heroism x 2 points).

Record Heroism (2).

Record Maximum Heroics Pool (Heroism x Primary Virtue).

Record Health Levels (7).

Optional Rules for Chargen

If the Storyteller allows it, characters may be further specialized by reducing their starting Attributes and Abilities in exchange for more Bonus Points. Attributes: 4 dots in the primary category; 3 dots in the secondary and tertiary categories. Abilities: 16. Bonus Points: 47. The hero must choose a primary, secondary, and tertiary Trait from the following list: Attributes, Abilities, Edges/Spells, Virtues/Heroism, and Backgrounds. The hero must spend at least 20 Bonus Points on the primary Trait, 10 points on the secondary Trait, and 5 points on the tertiary Trait. This system should only be used if the players are mature enough not to min/max their characters as it can be an open invitation to untold twinkery.
