And here we go again. Now, we'd normally include the review, but it was bloody short. So we'll just skip straight to the main stuff. Kirin?
Kirin: Hmm... Well, I'd be lying if I said the concept of a Star Wars/ MST3K fic hadn't occurred to us at any time, and therefore this COULD have been a good fic. It's a pity, then, that the writing style is so poor. The way Miss Erdahl writes, it sounds more like a plot synopsis of a movie than an actual fanfic. Now granted, this may have been the point. But it makes it pretty difficult to rate things. It's a great idea, but it's so thin that it's hardly worth the read. It certainly is a winner on the goofiness scale, however, and it's clear the author was enjoying herself, so a few extra points for that. Alexis?
Alexis: Oooh, this is the kind of fic us grammer flamers live for. One name comes immediately to mind when reading this: Dr. Thinker. Seriously, this would be what you'd get if the good doctor switched from anime and comic book fics to the world of MST3K. Incomprehensible sentences, poor and inconsistent spelling, haphazard dialogue. It makes it nearly unreadable as a result. It's clear that Jenny was having a lot of fun writing this, but its poor all-around grammar and spelling makes it a real pain to read. Hibichi?
Hibichi: Characterisation? We don' need no steenking characterisation! Or so the author seems to be implying. Joel is uncharacteristically mean in this fic, although it does make for a hilarious scene where he just kinda sits there while the Forresters kill each other. Doctor Forrester is portrayed as being nothing more than a big crybaby, which is not typically on the list of things you COULD call him. Mike is unusually suave in this; granted, he IS playing the Hans Solo character, but he's never struck me as being the ladies man. Then again, almost none of the characters are in the fic long enough to really judge characterisation at all. This is, of course, the fault of the writing style; were it written otherwise, we might have gotten attached to the characters more. I think that's about it.
Alexis: Scores for MiSTie Wars (ooh! That rhymes!):
Story: 3
Language:
2
Characterization:
3
Depth: 1
Overall: 3.
Lacking all around, but at least the author seemed to be having fun doing
it.
Now before you jump down my throat over this justifying yourself, I offer
you this little disclaimer: THIS IS JUST OUR OPINIONS. It's
not gospel fact, it's just some friendly advice. Hell, for all we
know this is the fanfic equivalent of Moby Dick and we just can't comprehend
this. Although I can't really picture Joel or Mike as Captain Ahab...
Skipping over the Freon fics again (Keeripes, we did a lot of them), we
do Blonde Exchange next week. C-ya!
