December 2002

Dear Family and Friends:
Some of you know and some are just finding out that our daughter Alexandra has been diagnosed
with Acute Lymphatic Leukemia. She has just been through her first month of chemotherapy.
With this type of Leukemia a 2 1/2 year treatment is prescribed. She has been put in a medium risk
category which will give her an 89% chance of full remission at the end of treatment.
For the next 6 months she will be hospitalized every 3 weeks for a stay of 3 days for chemo and
we will be in the clinic once a week for checkups. We give her meds at home as well.
We have had quite the education in the past month and
we are still trying to take it all in. Alexandra thus far has responded to her treatment wonderfully.
She is a fighter and has a great attitude, she is often our comic relief. I want to say that although this
has not been easy, Jesus has truly given me a strength that is not my own.
When I thought I could not walk this trial, please Lord, not this one. He came in and
touched me in the night and renewed my strength. He gave me
scripture I could hang on to and trust and live by. We are crushed but not destroyed. I want to
thank our family and friends for all their love and support. I am truly overwhelmed by
the kindness and the body of Christ coming together and helping.
The practical and mundane tasks have meant so much. I am also amazed at the
kindness of strangers to me but who love Alexandra. Her school has truly been unbelievable.
She is so loved by her teachers and even the staff. I went to a meeting to get her schooled at home and
staff was lined up to talk to me and hug me and wanting to see Alexandra.
Praise the Lord that we have each other and such faithful people in our lives.
I will forever be changed by this experience, sure it is hard and it comes with a lot of tears and sometimes
not wanting to face tomorrow, but wow I have already had much to be thankful for.
Thank you
for gifts, hospital visits, meals, coming with me to treatment, fingernail polish,
taking me out to get away, phone calls, popping by to
visit, crying with me, laughing with me.
Thank you again and we love and appreciate you,
George, Liz, Victoria, Alexandra, and Nicholas

P.S. Update: Alexandra has responded to treatments so far; she has
been diagnosed as 'medium risk'. She will be in aggressive treatment for
the next six months and in maintenance for the next
two years. She is starting to feel better at times,
and is getting out of bed for the first time in a month.
In fact, she and Nicholas fought all day so I
know she's getting better.:-) Also, she is doing
well with being schooled at home. Four teachers requested to be her home teachers--so
I am comforted. Lots of Love, Liz
