Overview
- A Uconn College Buddy is a full-time, registered undergraduate student who is paired in a one-to-one friendship with an individual from Camp Horizons who has mental retardation.
Requirements
- All interested students must attend the chapter's Organization Information Meeting
- All potential candidates must complete a brief College Buddy Application
- All potential candidates must be interviewed briefly to become a college buddy
- All buddies must commit for an entire academic school year to do the following:
- 1.) Make contact with your buddy on a weekly basis (including phone call, e-mail, letter, or visit)
- 2.) Have 2 to 3 one-to-one outings/visits per month with your buddy
- 3.) Become a contributing member of the chapter by attending chapter meetings, outings, and events
Remember...
- The essence of Best Buddies is to foster natural social friendships between two people. Your role is simply to be a friend to someone whose aquaintance you might not have otherwise had the opportunity to make. Just by being yourself, you will be a positive role model for your buddy and all individuals in the community.
