The Broncos have come out on top after a bruising clash with the Sharks
which
extended 7 minutes into extra time.
The Broncos jumped into the lead after Tonie Carroll scored a try in the
3rd
minute, which was
then converted by Darren Lockyer. They crossed again in the 8th minute through
Carl Webb, a Darren Lockyer conversion extending the
lead to 12-0.
The Sharks didn’t get on the board until the 31st minute when Jason Kent
got
over the line for
a try which Matt Hilder then converted. The score remained at
6-12 to the visitors
until the 64th minute, when Danny Nutley struck back with a try
and Greg Bird had
a successful conversion to tie the score up 12 a piece.
Neither team managed to break the deadlock and the match went into extra
time,
where opportunities were scarce, although both sides did have unsuccessful
field
goals. Finally,
into the second half of extra time, Brent Tate scored a solo try when
he followed up
his own grubber kick in the 87th minute to score next to the goal
posts.
Aside from the numerous errors for the Sharks, the match provided a scare
for
the Sharks as Andrew
Lomu is suspected to have a hamstring injury, which lead to
him being taken
from the field in the 23rd minute, and Chris Beattie has been put on
report for lifting
Brent Tate.
