"Can I help you with something Kristina?"
"No thank you, Sonny. I just forgot my key and I'm waiting for Alexis to open the door."
"How do you know she's home? She's usually gone to work by this time."
"Oh she's home. Maybe she just doesn't want to see certain people." Kristina replied emphatically leaving Sonny to wonder.
"Well I could use my key to let you in. Sonny offered."
"Thank you, Alexis is probably in the shower or something." Kristina said trying to make up for her earlier slip of the tongue. After Sonny opened the door Kristina thanked and dismissed him.
"Alexis, I'm home."
"Did you get it?" Alexis asked peering down from the top of the stairs.
"Yes it's right here." Kristina stated handing her the bag.
"Maybe I should wait..." Alexis began hesitantly.
"Alexis would you please just go take that test right now before I die of suspense."
Alexis disappeared and returned a couple minutes later.
"Well?" Kristina asked impatiently.
"I don't know I couldn't look."
"Do you want me to do it?" Kristina asked.
"Would you?" Kristina walked into the bathroom and came out a couple seconds later smiling.
"Congratulations!"
About half way to the Quartermain gatehouse Jax began to rethink his murder plan. After all there was a chance Kristina wasn't pregnant. He also assumed that she hadn't told Ned of her suspicions and he didn't want to be the one to do it. Still Kristina was his friend and he wanted to make sure that Ned would face up to the responsibility should it arise. To this end he had developed a new plan.
"I'm pregnant?" Alexis said the words with a mixture of disbelief and awe.
"You're going to be a mother." Kristina confirmed. "Come on let's sit down," she added when Alexis looked as though she was about to pass out. "Are you happy?" She asked once they were seated. Alexis took a moment before replying.
"This is something I honestly never thought was possible for me and now that its happened I can't imagine anything more wonderful".
"So Ned, have you ever thought about having any more kids?" Ned looked at Jax as though he were crazy. The question did come up out of the blue. After spending a few minutes catching up on business Jax had decided it was time to get down to the real business at hand.
"Where did that come from?" Ned asked wondering what had gotten into Jax.
"Well I was just wondering what it would be like to have a kid. I mean you've had a child before you know what its like." Jax attempted to cover his rather obvious question.
"I don't believe this, are you trying to tell me your biological clock is ticking? Who's the lucky lady?"
"What lady?" Jax asked confused by the turn this conversation was taking.
"The one who's got you thinking of settling down and starting a family."
"There is no lady," Jax denied. He knew in his heart he was lying but he and here to discuss Ned and Kristina not Alexis and himself.
"Relax, I understand wanting to be a dad, I mean when that little person that you helped create looks up at you for the first time, its amazing.
"Alexis this is so amazing, I can't wait."
"I still can't believe its true."
"Alexis there's something I need to ask you," Kristina began hesitantly. "Is Sonny the father?"
"What?"
"Is Sonny..."
"I heard you," Alexis stopped her sister from repeating the question. "I just can't believe you actually said it. Why on earth would you think Sonny is the father of this baby?"
"Well you are dating him, or at least you were."
"Kristina we went out once, on New Years Eve, as friends."
"Well if it's not Sonny, who is the father?"
Jax left the gatehouse feeling both better and worse. His conversation with Ned had left him fairly certain that Ned would stand by Kristina no matter what but it had also placed some questions about his own relationship in his head. He had allowed Alexis to spend the last two months hiding from him, believing that she just needed some space to deal with what had happened. However the more he thought about it the more he was convinced he had done the wrong thing. He would never win Alexis' heart this way, he needed a new game plan. His mind ran back to when they were married. Things had been so easy between them then, she had been so comfortable with him. And suddenly he realized what he needed to do.
"Jax? Jax is the father? Jax?"
"Yes Kristina. Jax is the father, why do you find that so difficult to believe?"
"I'm sorry it's just, I mean you two were married for what like a year and nothing happened and now all of a sudden, wham."
"I told you we were drinking." Alexis stated trying to ignore Kristina's poor choice of words.
"Still I don't get it."
"Why not?" Alexis asked beginning to get rather annoyed. "Jax is a wonderful man, he's fun, romantic, sexy... I mean charming. "
"Alexis I know all this. I just didn't think you did. So do you think he'll be happy about the baby?"
"I don't know. I mean I know he'll say all the right things but what if he's totally horrified at the thought of me carrying his child."
"I highly doubt it." Kristina answered grinning at Alexis' description.
"Of course he won't admit it," Alexis continued "he'll probably propose marriage."
"Would that be so bad? I mean you seemed to like being married to him before."
"That was completely different."
"Was it? You said it yourself, he's fun, sexy, romantic, you know he's a great husband, you're obviously attracted to him, and he's the father of your child. It sounds perfect to me."
With that Kristina went to the kitchen to make breakfast leaving Alexis to think about what she had said. Could she and Jax work as a real couple? She knew how she felt about him but had no idea how he felt. Well she thought, maybe it was time to find out.
