Popcorn & A Movie

Sitting on the sofa in her fuzzy socks and PJ's Alexis reached once more for the oversized bowl of popcorn sitting on her table. She was going to sit here and watch a movie and enjoy herself dammit. And she wasn't going to think about...

Her thoughts were interrupted by a knock at the door. She knew it was Sonny, probably coming to fight with her again about her plans to move out. She ignored him. The knocking grew louder and more insistent.

"Alexis I know you're in there, I can smell the popcorn."

Busted! Well she would have to talk to him eventually, might as well get it over with.

"Yes?" She asked as soon as she'd opened the door. He stood there grinning at her and she was tempted to close it on him.

"Can I come in...please."

"Sonny what do you want?" She asked impatiently.

"Well I was going to ask you if you wanted to go grab some dinner but it looks like you're in for the night."

"Yes I am so..."

"That's okay I don't mind hanging out here so what are we doing?"

"I am watching a movie," she replied, confused by his sudden desire to "hang out" with her. "It's Another Thin Man."

"Where?" Sonny asked looking around

"The movie," she explained, "it's Another Thin Man." Sonny still looked rather confused and so she explained futher. "Oh, I see." Sonny was beginning to wonder if he should have insisted on taking Alexis out.

Almost one hour later.

"The wife did it." "Yeah, well I changed my mind. Look at her she's totally guilty you can see it in her eyes."

"You're crazy. There's no way she's capable of murder."

"Spoken like a true defense lawyer."

"Thank you."

"Okay if you're so smart who do you think did it?"

"Well it's always the least likely suspect so I'd have to say David."

"Jimmy Stewert? No way"

"He is the least likely suspect."

"Would you care to make a wager."

"What kind of wager?"

"Well if you're right and Jimmy really is our killer, I will cook dinner for you and if I'm right..."

"I'm not cooking for you." Alexis interrupted.

"Relax I'd never ask you to do that, I've tasted your coffee, remember." Alexis reacted with what could only be decribed as a pout, and Sonny had to laugh as he continued. "No, if I win you have to buy me dinner."

"Okay it's a deal," she replied sticking out her hand. Sonny took it and held it marvelling at how delicate it was. "We better watch the movie," Alexis said nervously pulling her hand away.

"Yeah."

Another hour later.

"That movie was so unrealistic." Sonny complained reaching for one last handful of popcorn.

"You're just mad because I was right."

"I wasn't talking about the murder I was thinking about Nick and Nora. I mean there's this upper class, smart, funny, beautiful woman from a rich but somewhat disturbed family, who's hobbies include covering up murders. And she falls in love with a guy from the wrong side of the tracks, so to speak, that her family and friends can't stand. I mean come on."

"It could happen." Alexis defended without thinking.

"Could it?" Sonny was looking at her very intently all of a sudden and Alexis was very uncomfortable.

"So I guess you owe me a dinner," she reminded him, eager to change the subject.

"Yeah I guess I do. How bout tomorror night, around 7?"

"Sure."

"See you then." With that Sonny left and went back to his place. So far things were going well. After their aguement that afternoon over whether or not Alexis should move out, Sonny realized he had been going about it the wrong way. The new plan of attack was to show Alexis just how much fun living next door to him could be
