Chapter 2

Even before she was fully awake Alexis felt her sore mucles object to her attempts to move. She had just managed to sit up when Jax entered the room.

"Good you're awake, how are you feeling?"

"A little sore but not bad."

"Does is look really bad?"

"No, not at all."

"For a lawyer and a corporate raider we're really not very good liars. So how does it look really?"

"It's pretty swollen, we should have put some ice on it last night," he told her as he came to sit on the edge of the bed. Slowly so as not to startle her he reached up and stroked her cheek. "How are you feeling, really?"

"Like I was hit by a truck."

"Maybe you should stay in bed today, I could call Kristina and tell her..."

"That I'm spending the day in your bed? Was it her imagination of did Jax actually blush.

"Um, I was going to make something up."

"I can't believe you're encouraging me to stay in bed. When we were married you were always trying to make an early riser out of me." Jax laughed slightly akwardly. He had always tried to get her to get up and dressed as early as possible but thankfully she never suspected why. Living with her, knowing she was just though the door, lying in bed, wearing little if any clothing was a constant cause of frustration. Why on earth did she think he went jogging every morning at 6 am?

"Jax?"

"Um, sorry what?"

"I asked what was in the box." He had been carrying it when he entered the room but had put it down and completely forgotten about it.

"Oh I just... it's some clothes. I thought you might something to wear home, besides one of my shirts I mean." "Yeah can you imagine me wearing this in public?" Alexis asked laughingly. Jax tried to laugh but the mental images of Alexis wearing his shirt were not exactly laughable.

"So I guess I'll let you get dressed then. I made some breakfast for us when you're done."

"Is it in liquid form?" Alexis asked suspiciously remembering the protien shakes he tried to make her drink when they were married. Instead of answering he merely stuck his tongue out at her as he left the room.

Fifteen minutes later Alexis entered the livingroom wearing the clothes Jax had bought her.

"I see everything fits," Jax commented as she came towads him.

"Yes everything, I'm not even going to ask how you knew my bra size." Alexis told him as she sat down on his sofa.

"Are you hungry?" He asked quickly, showing her the array of food he had ordered from room service.

"Coffee would be great." He silently handed her a cup of coffee and then began to pile food onto one of the plates. "Jax your not actually going to eat all of that are you?"

"No, it's for you."

"There is no way on earth I can eat all of that."

"Sure you can," he told her handing her the plate. Alexis picked at the food for a few minutes before looking up to find Jax watching her.

"What?"

"You're thinking of something and you don't want to tell me."

"How did you...?"

"I know you."

"It's... it's something he said last night... the man... He called me a mouse."

"What?"

"He said that I fought well for a mouse. It's got to be a coincidence don't you think." She looked at Jax hopefully but as much as he wanted to reassure her he could not lie. "You think Helena had something to do with, with the attack." Again she didn't wait for him to answer. "But that doesn't make sense, I mean Helena just escaped from prison why on earth would she waste time hiring men to attack me. It's not her style, besides which she wants me dead not... Doesn't she?" The thought that Helena could have orchastrated the attack was almost too unbelievable.

"I think we need to call Mac."
