"Auntie Kristina, have you seen my purple shirt? I think I left it here the other day."
"I'm not sure, it might be upstairs." She headed up followed by Jillian who was giving a detailed description of the garment. This left Jax and Countney alone a rare occurance Jax decided to take full advantage of.
"I was thinking," He began rather awkwardly, "that you could come to dinner tomorrow night if you like. I mean with Jillian, and well, my parents." Dammit he was acting like a teenager asking a girl to the prom. It was all Alexis and Kristina's fault. He hadn't been nervous around Courtney before, in fact he had been very comfortable with her. She was becoming more and more a part of his life, helping with Jillian and hanging out with him.
"Uh, sure. That would be great. I'd like to see your parents again."
"Great." At that moment Jillian came back downstairs holding up her purple shirt victoriously.
"I knew it had to be here."
"Okay are we all set to go then?"
"Yup, see you later."
"So do you think she's told him yet?" Courtney asked looking in the direction of the other penthouse.
"This is Alexis we're talking about, she's a master at both denial and stalling. He probably hasn't even had a chance to ask anything yet."
"Alexis would you quit stalling and tell me what's going on?" She looked up at Sonny who was looming over her and before she could stop them the tears came. Sonny immediately sat beside her and took her in his arms. He stroked her hair and murmured soothing words about how everything would be okay. The more she cried the more concerned he became until he was convinced that something horrible had happened or was about to.
"Alexis, please tell me what it is. I swear, we'll get through it, but you have to tell me." She took herself slightly out of his embrace so that she could look at him. He could tell she was trying to find the right words, the right way in which to tell him and so he remained silent. Finally she decided it would be easiest to just let the words come.
"I'm pregnant." Sonny, who had been preparing himself to hear that she was ill or that she was leaving him, took a minute to register the fact that the news was definitely not what he expected. He smiled at her and kissed her gently on the lips before taking her into his arms.
"Alexis, this is wonderful. I mean us having a child together. With your looks and brains and my cooking abilities this is going to be one amazing kid." It was this point that Sonny realized Alexis was crying again and he was immediately worried. "What's wrong? Is the baby sick? Are you?"
"No we're both fine." She assured him gently though she seemed a bit uncertain.
"Then what is it? Aren't you happy about the baby, I mean you do want our child, don't you?" His voice was slightly panicked.
"Of course I want our child Sonny, more than anything I want to hold this child in my arms."
"Then what's wrong?"
"Sonny I know how much a child would mean to you and I know how you grieved the loss of your other children. I would never want to put you though that pain again."
"But you said the baby was fine."
"It is, right now, but..."
"But what?"
"So was Danniel's child, she was fine and then suddenly she was gone." She had begun to cry again and Sonny once again took her into his arms and tried to sooth her.
"Its okay, I know how much losing the baby must have hurt you but just because it happened then doesn't mean our child won't be born healthy."
"It's more than just one child," she told him quietly.
"What?"
"I... I had a child... when I was... several years ago, it was stillborn."
"Oh my... Alexis does anyone know?"
"Only Stefan. Well, and the doctor I told her when I found out I was pregnant."
"What did she say?"
"She said that our baby was healthy and perfect and she saw no problems."
"Were there problems with the other pregnancies?" She shook her head silently, tears falling down her cheeks. Sonny sat there for a minute going over everything he had just learnt. Finally he took her hands and spoke. "Alexis I can't promise you that nothing will happen to this baby. I can however promise you that I will do everything possible to make this child okay. And no matter what happens, I love you and nothing will ever change that." He held her in his arms until he could feel her limbs becoming heavy with sleep. "Alexis, sweetheart, I think it's bedtime."
"Mmm," she murmured and snuggled in closer. Sonny gently moved her so that he was able to stand, then picking her up began to head upstairs. He could tell she was still awake but she kept her eyes closed as he laid her gently on the bed and began to undo her shirt. She waited for him to finish then asked,
"What are you doing?" Though still not opening her eyes.
"Well I figured you couldn't sleep in your clothes so I thought I'd help you take them off."
"That was thoughtful of you", she murmured. "Perhaps I should return the favor." She suggested, beginning to undo the buttons on his shirt.
"I thought you were tired."
"I'm never too tired to help the man I love when he needs me."
"Good because I definitely need you."
The next morning Sonny woke up early, and cancelled everything on his schedule, he also rescheduled all Alexis' appointments. Then he went downstairs and made an omelet, toast, bacon, fruit salad and fresh orange juice. He was about to grab the coffee when he remembered it wasn't good for the baby. Actually Alexis had stopped drinking it awhile ago, but he had assumed she had been turned off of coffee by having to drink her own one too many times. There were several things he had missed, signs that he should have picked up on. Still, now that he knew he was determined to do things right, beginning with breakfast. She was still sleeping when Sonny reentered the bedroom and since he hated to wake her up he began to turn around and head back out of the room.
"Where are you going with my breakfast?" She asked sleepily.
"I thought you were still asleep." He told her laying the tray on her lap.
"Now this is what I call service."
"Well get used to it, from now on its breakfast in bed everyday."
"Sonny do you realize what's going to happen it you make me do nothing but lie here and eat, I'll be huge within weeks."
"Don't worry you'll get plenty of exercise," he told her as he climbed into the bed beside her and began to nibble at her ear.
"Quit it, I'm trying to eat."
"Ah so now I discover the truth, you only want me for my food."
"That's right." She quipped giving him a quick kiss before returning to her breakfast. Once she finished eating Sonny took the dishes downstairs and then returned to bedroom. He found Alexis putting on his robe.
"What are you doing?"
"I'm going to have a shower and get ready for work. I'll be lucky if I make it to my first meeting. Why didn't you tell me it was so late?"
"You don't have any appointments today," he informed her. "I rescheduled them, mine too. We have nothing to do today but relax."
"Sonny I can't just lay around all day."
"Of course you can, Alexis there's a reason you fainted yesterday. You've been working too hard lately and we both know it. You need to learn to relax and I intend to be an excellent instructor." He took her hand and led her back to the bed then joined her there. "So, I never did ask you, when is our little bundle of joy due." Alexis looked slightly uncomfortable and looked away before replying.
"In about five months."
