Chapter 2

Sonny was making himself breakfast when he heard his door open and two familiar voices enter his place bickering.

"I didn't force him to do it, I just suggested..."

"Yeah, you suggested over and over until he had to agree in order to make you stop talking."

"That is so not true."

"I can see you going on and on..."

"Well, if it isn't the happy couple," Sonny greeted them popping his head out of the kitchen, a grin on his face. Watching Brenda and Jason was always amusing and sometimes downright funny. Their arguments reminded him of the banter he used to share with Alexis, though of course Alexis used bigger words.

"Hi Sonny, you're looking cheerful this morning, any reason in particular?" Brenda asked, a knowing smile on her lips.

Alexis got out of bed slightly concerned that Kristina had not yet woken her up. She walked into the nursery and saw Skye sitting in the rocking chair feeding her. They had been up talking so late that Skye had decided, not for the first time, to stay in the guest room over night. "Not at all, thanks. I'll go make us some coffee." Alexis offered but was quickly met by Skye's protest. "No, I'll do that, you finish up here." She insisted handing Kristina to her mother and hurrying downstairs to make the coffee.

Several minutes later Alexis came into the kitchen with Kristina in her arms.

"My coffee isn't that bad you know." She told Skye though they both knew it was. The only person who had ever drank her coffee was Sonny.

"So are you all ready for your big day?" Skye asked causing Alexis to pale.

"I've been thinking and I don't know if this is such a good idea."

"Okay rule number one, no thinking."

"That's not possible."

"Well, then no negative thoughts at least. We settled all this last night, you agreed that the only way for you to move on with your life was to seduce Sonny and then dump him."

"I did no such thing." Alexis denied. "Objection."

"Overruled."

At that moment Kristina grabbed a spoon from the table and banged it down like a judges gavel as though to say the matter was settled.

"I'm not saying I don't want to do it, I'm just saying it's going to be difficult." Sonny argued as he, Jason and Brenda sat around the table eating. "I mean Alexis and I barely see each other these days. I can't just go knock on her door and say hey want to be friends again?"

"Well, then why don't you call the guy you have watching her and ask where she's going so you can arrange to accidentally bump into her." Brenda suggested.

"I don't have anyone watching her." Sonny denied.

"Yes, you do, you have ever since you found out about Ned's involvement with Faith Roscoe." Brenda argued

Sonny shot Jason a dirty look knowing there was only one way Brenda had learnt about his protection of Alexis. Jason shrugged.

"Honesty is the foundation of a good marriage."

"Shut up." Sonny said as he picked up the phone and dialled.

"Hey, it's me, what's going on?" He listened silently for several minutes before saying goodbye and hanging up.

"So, where is Alexis going today?"

Alexis and Skye walked into Kelly's and sat down putting Kristina's carrier on the chair beside.

"Are you sure you'll be okay?" Alexis asked Skye for the tenth time since they left the house.

"I'm just going to take her to the park, it's not like you're leaving her with me for a week, don't worry." Skye assured her with a smile before turning to Kristina. "You and I are going to play at the park so Mommy can play with Daddy." She confided, causing Alexis to shoot her a look.

"She's so adorable." Liz gushed as she watched Alexis take the baby out of the carrier. As if in answer Kristina smiled up at Liz displaying her two perfect dimples and causing Liz to gush even more.

"Five months old and already has this entire town wrapped around her finger," Skye remarked. "I wonder where she gets that from?"

Giving Skye a look she placed her order and smiled down at her daughter.

"I think she looks more like him with every day." She told Skye.

"Speak of the devil, guess who just walked in?"

"That's not funny."

"I'm not joking."

Alexis turned in her chair and saw Sonny, Jason and Brenda standing in the doorway.

Sonny stood in the doorway feeling like a complete idiot. Brenda had insisted that she and Jason come along "for moral support". Part of him suspected she wanted to watch him make a fool of himself.

Skye, Brenda and Jason watched silently as Sonny and Alexis looked at each other from across the room. It seemed as if the entire restaurant was holding it's breath, waiting to see who would go first.

As it turned out it was their daughter who broke the silence letting out a gurgled string of happy sounds in response to the sight of Cameron who had walked in right after Sonny.

Cameron, oblivious to the situation walked towards Alexis scooped Kristina out of her arms and swung her into the air.

"How is my favourite girl doing today?" He asked Kristina who returned his smile.

Before he could sit down to join their table he heard to voices calling him at the same time.

"Dr. Lewis can I talk to you."

"Cameron can I see you outside?"

"Cameron looked from Brenda to Skye and back again noting how anxious both looked to get him away from Alexis."

The two of the looked at each other obviously suspicious of the other's motives.

He saw Jason looking extremely uncomfortable, as though he would rather be anywhere in the world than there at that moment.

Sonny was looking sadly at Alexis who in turn was staring back at him.

There were so many conversations going on in the silent room Cameron almost had to laugh. In spite of the silence it didn't take a genius to figure out what was going on.

"Skye it looks like you and Kristina were on your way out so why don't I go with you and we can discuss the situation on the way. MS Morgan I'd be happy to talk with you first if you like." He offered.

"No, it can wait." Brenda replied happily once she realised he was leaving.

"Yes, I had a feeling it could," he nodded before picking up Kristina's carrier and walking out with her and Skye.

Brenda grabbed Jason and sat down at a nearby table leaving Sonny and Alexis alone.

"Um, happy birthday." She said for lack of anything else to say and then immediately regretted it. Memories of his birthday brought up other memories as well.

"Thank you." He replied then waited, hoping she would say something more.

"So um ... can I buy you a birthday cup of coffee?"

"Sure I'd like that." He replied smiling and sitting down to join her. She signalled Liz over and ordered a cup for him and a refill for herself.

The next several minutes were spent in silence, neither of them wanting to risk ruining the moment by talking. This was ridiculous Alexis decided at last. They were two intelligent adults surely they could think of something to talk about. Luckily at that moment they heard Brenda's laughter drift across the room.

"They seem happy." She observed with a smirk. She had witnessed their verbal spats more than once and found them quite amusing.

"Yeah, they are quite a pair." He agreed.

"Do you mind, I mean the two of them being together?" She asked.

"No, I'll admit it was weird at first but they both deserve to be happy and I'm glad they are."

"So um, I was wondering, if you'd like to have dinner with me this evening to celebrate your birthday?"

Sonny sat there staring at her. He was confused beyond words. Unless he was mistaking Alexis had just asked him out. The woman who had been avoiding him for a year had actually suggested spending time with him. To top it all off she had done it on the very day he had decided to try to win back her friendship. Suddenly what had seemed very unlikely five minutes ago now seemed possible.

Alexis however took Sonny's silent reaction as a rejection.

"Oh I'm sorry, you probably have plans already I wasn't..."

"No," he interrupted her. "I mean I don't have plans. I'd love to have dinner." He told her eagerly.

She couldn't believe it, he had accepted her. She had been prepared for his refusal, looking forward to it almost. She would be able to tell Skye she tried and that he had refused, that would be the end of this insane plan. Instead he had said yes, now what was she going to do? She realised Sonny was saying her name.

"I'm sorry what?"

"I asked where you wanted to have dinner?" He asked. He was eager to make the arrangements before she could back out.

"Oh um..." she tried to think of the place they were least likely to be seen by anyone she knew. After all she may be willing to seduce him, but she didn't want the entire town to know about it. "The No-Name," she announced at last leaving Sonny clearly surprised. "What? Do you have a problem with the No-Name?"

"No but I thought you did." He told her then realised why she had chosen it. She didn't want to run into anyone they knew. She didn't want to be seen with him. "The No-Name's fine." He assured her.

"Great well I should, Skye's probably waiting for me."

"Okay, I'll see you tonight. I can pick you up at 7?"

"Sounds good." She agreed before standing up and leaving. Sonny watched her leave unable to believe the conversation they just had had actually taken place.

"So, how did it go?" Brenda asked coming over with Jason to join him.

"She asked me out to dinner."

"What?"

"Why?"

"I don't know but I intend to find out."
