Chapter 7

Sonny opened the door and Alexis strode in.

"Why are men such idiots?" She asked as she sat down on his sofa.

"I'm going to assume that's a rhetorical question." She glared at him but remained silent. "Would you like a drink?"

"Do I look like I need one?" She was acting bitchy and she knew it, but James had made her mad and as the only male around, Sonny was going to have to suffer.

"Actually yeah." He replied easily.

"What is that supposed to mean?"

"Well you look a little tense, not to mention angry, what did James say?" He had a pretty good idea already but he wasn't about to tell Alexis that.

"What makes you think this has anything to do with James?"

"Alexis one minute you're having dinner with the guy and the next you come storming in here proclaiming the idiocy of the entire male gender, it wasn't that hard to figure out."

"I think I will have a drink." Sonny knew she was avoiding the question but decided to let it go. He automatically poured her a glass of rum and handed it to her, then poured one for himself. He sat down beside her and watched her. She was obviously thinking over something and it was a sight to behold. He had never met anyone who thought about things as much as Alexis, she seemed to analyze everything. Apparently the rum was helping her as she all but gulped it and held out her glass for him to refill. He obliged without question but refused the third time.

"Are you afraid I'll get drunk and come onto you?" She asked without thinking, perhaps she didn't need that third glass after all. Sonny grinned.

"If I thought that I'd probably give you the bottle." He went to pour her another glass but this time she refused.

"No! I mean, no thanks."

"Ah, there's my sensible Alexis." She thought he sounded rather disappointed.

"So do you want to talk about it now?"

"There's nothing to talk about, James is an idiot."

"I couldn't agree more."

"Sonny. He was trying to play amateur shrink." Now Sonny knew why Alexis was so upset. If there was one thing Alexis guarded it was her emotions. He had seen her fight to keep them under control and he had been there on the few occasions when she allowed them to the surface. Her panic attacks over her wedding to Ned and her fear after the Helena thing were two prime examples. He also knew how she hated to talk about her feelings, yet another thing they shared in common.

"Why is it people think things will get better if you talk about your feelings?" Alexis' voice interrupted his thoughts. "I mean Kristina does nothing but talk about feelings and she's not exactly the most stable person I've ever met. Granted she didn't run out on her own wedding, as far as I know, but she's still young." Sonny watched Alexis lean back on the sofa, apparently quite relaxed now. He was so lucky to have her in his life; the last thing he wanted to do was lose her. He shouldn't do anything that could ruin their friendship, he thought as he began to lean closer. He shouldn't ask for more that she was willing to give he told himself as his lips touched hers. He definitely shouldn't take advantage of her obvious distress earlier he reminded himself as he reach for the zipper at the back of her dress and began to ease it down.
