A Logical Conclusion

Sonny walked into the Port Charles Grill and saw Alexis sitting at a table writing something. She seemed to be putting a lot of thought into whatever it was, stopping to think and then jotting down ideas quickly. He approached the table with caution remembering the last time he had interrupted her while she was working.

Alexis continued her work oblivious to Sonny's approach. She had just walked out on a Quartermain breakfast that Lila had invited her to. She should have known better than to go but who can say no to Lila? After and hour of listening to Edward plan out her child's entire future and Alan and Monica argue over who's fault it was that AJ was drinking again she had to get out of there. Ned had not been much help and she was beginning to suspect he wouldn't be in the long run either. So here she sat trying to figure out if, in trying to protect her child, she had put him or her in more danger than she had imagined.

"Um, hi Alexis. What are you working on?" Sonny asked sitting down across from her and waiting for the inevitable lecture he was sure to get for bothering her. He was surprised when instead of yelling she smiled brightly at him.

"Sonny, just the man I wanted to see. I need you to answer a few questions."

"Okay," he agreed willingly, happy that Alexis was going to allow him to spend time with her for once. Ever since Carly's come back Alexis had been pushing him away. Not that he could blame her. He had allowed his guilt to over power his brain, a mistake he was now paying for in full.

"First, as far as you know does Mike have any other children besides Courtney and yourself?"

"What? Sonny asked stunned. "Did you find something out Alexis? Does he have other kids out there?" He continued rather frantically.

"Wait a second Sonny, I didn't say I knew anything, it was just a question." She assured him.

"Kind of an odd question," he told her, trying to look down at whatever she was writing.

"Just answer it please." She said keeping her notes safely out of view.

"No not that I know of." She nodded and jotted something down before looking at him again.

"And you have no aunts, uncles, or cousins in jail or psychiatric institutions at the present time?"

"Alexis what is this about?"

"Sonny please."

"I have an aunt but she lives down south with a bunch of cats, does that answer your question?"

"Perfectly, thank you." Again some notes were made. "And one final question what are your views on private schools?"

"Um, well..." Sonny was unsure how to continue knowing that Alexis had attended a private school herself.

"It's okay Sonny you won't offend me, just give me your honest opinion."

"Okay I think they're for spoiled rich brats, present company excluded of course."

"Thank you," she said, though this time she did not write anything.

"Aren't you going to write down my answer?" Sonny looked at her expectantly.

"No that one was just a confirmation question." She smiled.

"Confirmation of what? What the is this all about Alexis?" Sonny asked beginning to get impatient.

"Well as you know I'm a logical person, I enjoy thinking things through." Sonny rolled his eyes at her understatement.

"Alexis I've never known anyone who over thinks more than you."

"Right, usually that's true. Then this morning I realized I haven't been thinking logically at all lately. I mean I've been saying and doing things, making decisions without really thinking about the consequences. So anyway this morning I came here and decided to clearly and rationally think about what I'm doing." Sonny was trying as hard as he could to follow wherever it was Alexis was going but quite honestly he was lost.

"You've been thinking about your life and where it's taking you?" He asked trying to clarify the situation for himself.

"That's right."

"I understand completely," Sonny told her. He too had been going over his choices lately and realizing all the mistakes he had made. The biggest one was allowing Alexis to push him away.

"Anyway I finally figured out the most logical answer to my situation." She told him.

"Really? Care to share it with me?"

"As a matter of fact I would. Originally I thought that telling you would be wrong because it would put our child in danger but after a week with the Quartermains I've come to realize you're probably the safer bet. Congratulations Sonny we're having a baby."
