The Whole Armor Of God
'Ephesians 6'
Ephesians 6 says to be armed with God's armour. To
be able to live every day in His strength and power
that we may be enabled to stand against all temptation
and all attacks of the enemy
Scripture below
Ephesians 6:
10 ¶ Finally, my brothers, be strong in the Lord and in
the power of His might.
Be strong *** in the Lord*** and in the power of HIS
might - not us, but Him in us - we can do all things
through Christ Who strengthens us [philippians 4:13]
11 Put on the whole armor of God so that you may be able
to stand against the wiles of the devil.
Humble yourself before God, resist evil and he will flee
from you [James 4:7]
12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but
against principalities, against powers, against the
world's rulers, of the darkness of this age, against
spiritual wickedness in high places ..
Our battle is not of this world, but the spiritual
realm - we need to be armed spiritually with all the
God graces us with - who we are in Christ and how His
salvation and our lives in Him is the freedom from the
evil forces that tempt us, try us, resist us, attempt
to overcome us. [John 8:31-32]
13 Therefore take to yourselves the whole armor of God,
that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and
having done all, to stand.
Paul uses physcial armour to explain how we must be armed
spiritually to stand against evil.
14 Therefore stand, having your loins girded about with
truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness
Truth is a two fold concept in this passage. Girded with
truth is the knowledge that your foundation is
Jesus Christ - like not going out of the house without
your pants on -this what loins girded means. In other
words, don't leave home without Jesus
Breastplate of righteousness is God standard of doing
right and of being Holy as He is - a Biblical mandate to
live pure, in His Word, not of this world, but of Him,
denying the flesh and not giving into temptation.
[1 John]
15 and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel
of peace.
we are to be peace makers - showing the love of Jesus to
all - this is His gospel - they will know we are His by
our love. The gospel of peace is the gospel of salvation
- we are restored to relationship with God though Jesus.
[1 John]
16 Above all, take the shield of faith, with which you
shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
The Shield of faith is what God gives each us to remain
solid in Him - refusing to be doubleminded [James 1],
doubting our salvation and doubting that He can do
through us what He desires. That shield gives us
confidence in Jesus ability to use us and to resist
temptation. [Heb 12:1-3 & Heb 4:15-16]
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the
Spirit, which is the Word of God,
|

|
The helmet of salvation - born again status - cleansed by
the washing of the Word to be renewed and transformed in
mind and heart - and born of Spirit. [Eph 4:23;
Col 3:10; Rom 12:12; John 3]
The Sword of the Spirit is the Word of God - know the
Word to know the enemy - just as Jesus fought against
temptation in the wilderness, so we fight with the Word
of God - man shall not live by bread alone, but by every
Word that proceeds from the mouth of God. [Deut 8:3;
Matt 4:4]
18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in
the Spirit, and watching to this very thing with all
perseverance and supplication for all saints.
Communication with God must be foremost above everything
else. Praying for yourself and for others to remain
strong, firm, protected against the enemy. We pray
because He instructs us to, not because He needs us to :).
