Jesus said to them, "Tear down this temple and in 3 days it will arise a new". What they didn't know was he was talking about himself. He Jesus his body being the temple then 3 days later, after the death and the conquering of Hell he would rise to heaven a living GOD. He then appeared again to his disciples confirming what was to be then onto heaven to be with the Father.

The picture above depicts the tomb Jesus was put into after his death on the cross. He was taken off the cross wrapped in linen then placed into the tomb. At the entrance to the tomb was placed a very large stone to close off the opening so no one could steal the body. Two Roman guards were placed outside the tomb to guard it. On the 3rd day both guards were found sleeping, this was an unusual sight. The stone in front of the tomb was rolled away to reveal the opening and the inside of the tomb. Inside the only thing that remained was the linen Jesus was wrapped in.

Old Testament prophecy of Jesus Resurrection

Daniel 12

1 ¶ And at that time Michael shall stand up, the great ruler who stands for the sons of your people. And there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation; until that time. And at that time your people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.

2 And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

3 And those who are wise shall shine as the brightness of the sky; and those who turn many to righteousness shall shine as the stars forever and ever.

[proof there is resurrection from the dead]

Hosea 6

1 ¶ Come and let us return to the LORD. For He has torn, and He will heal us; He has stricken, and He will bind us up.

2 After two days He will bring us to life; in the third day He will raise us up, and we shall live in His sight.

3 Then we shall know, if we follow on to know the LORD. His going out is prepared as the morning; and He shall come to us as the rain, as the latter and former rain to the earth.

[because Jesus was resurrected, we too are brought from death into life through Him]

Zechariah 9-10

9 And it shall be in that day I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.

10 And I will pour on the house of David, and on the people of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of prayers. And they shall look on Me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for Him, as one mourns for his only son , and shall be bitter over Him, as the bitterness over the first-born.

[God is speaking of Himself - and they shall look on *Me* whom they have pierced . . .]

Psalms 16

8 I have set the LORD always before Me; because He is at My right hand, I shall not be moved.

9 Therefore My heart is glad, and My glory rejoices; My flesh also shall rest in hope;

10 For You will not leave My soul in hell; You will not allow Your Holy One to see corruption.

11 You will make Me know the way of life; in Your presence is fullness of joys. At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

[David is prophesying the resurrection of Jesus]

Psalms 49

7 A man cannot at all redeem a brother, nor give to God a ransom for him,
8 for the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceases forever,
9 yea, he shall yet live forever; he shall never see corruption.

[Jesus will be raised, death will not hold Him]

Psalms 68

18 You have gone up on high; You have led captivity captive; You have received gifts for men, yes, for the rebellious also, that You might dwell among them, O Jehovah God.

New Testament Fulfillment of Jesus Resurrection

1 Timothy 3

16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among nations, believed on in the world, and received up into glory.

Matthew 28

1 ¶ But late in the week, at the dawning into the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb.
2 And behold, a great earthquake occurred! For coming down from Heaven, and coming up, an angel of the Lord rolled back the stone from the door and was sitting on it.
3 His countenance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow.
4 And the keepers shook for fear of him and became like dead men .
5 And the angel answered and said to the women, Do not fear, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified.
6 He is not here, for He has risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

Mark 16

1 ¶ And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene and Mary, the mother of James and Salome, had bought sweet spices so that they might come and anoint Him.
2 And very early in the morning, the first day of the week, they came upon the tomb, the sun having risen.
3 And they said among themselves, Who will roll away the stone from the door of the tomb for us?
4 And looking up, they saw that the stone had been rolled back, for it was very great.
5 And entering into the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right, clothed in a long white garment. And they were frightened.
6 And he said to them, Do not be frightened. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen, He is not here. Behold the place where they laid Him.
7 But go tell His disciples and Peter that He goes before you into Galilee. There you will see Him, as He said to you.
8 And they went out quickly and fled from the tomb. For they trembled and were amazed. Neither did they say anything to anyone, for they were afraid.

Luke 24

1 ¶ And on the first of the sabbaths, while still very early, they came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.
2 But they found the stone rolled away from the tomb.
3 And going in, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.
4 And as they were much perplexed about it, it happened that, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments.
5 And as they were afraid, and bowed their faces down to the earth, they said to them, Why do you seek the living among the dead?
6 He is not here, but has risen. Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee,
7 saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified, and the third day rise again?
8 And they remembered His words
9 and returned from the tomb and told all these things to the Eleven and to the rest.

John 20

1 ¶ The first of the sabbaths Mary Magdalene came early to the tomb, darkness still being on it , and she saw the stone taken away from the tomb.
2 Then she ran and came to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and said to them, They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid Him.
3 Therefore Peter and that other disciple went forth and came to the tomb.
4 So they both ran together. And the other disciple outran Peter and came first to the tomb.
5 And stooping down he saw the linens lying, yet he did not go in.
6 Then Simon Peter came following him and went into the tomb. And he saw the linens lying there .
7 And the grave-cloth that was on His head was not lying with the linens, but was wrapped up in one place by itself.
8 Therefore, then, that other disciple also went in, the one who came first to the tomb. And he saw and believed.
9 For as yet they did not know the Scripture that He must rise again from the dead.
10 Then the disciples went away again to themselves.
11 ¶ But Mary stood outside of the tomb, weeping. And as she wept, she stooped down into the tomb.
12 And she saw two angels in white sitting there, the one at the head and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.
13 And they said to her, Woman, why do you weep? She said to them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid Him.
14 And when she had said this, she turned backward and saw Jesus standing, but she did not know that it was Jesus.
15 Jesus said to her, Woman, why do you weep? Whom do you seek? Supposing Him to be the gardener, she said to Him, Sir, if you have carried Him away from here, tell me where you have laid Him and I will take Him away.
16 Jesus said to her, Mary! She turned herself and said to Him, Rabboni! (which is to say, Master!)
17 Jesus said to her, Do not touch Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father. But go to My brothers and say to them, I ascend to My Father and Your Father, and to My God and your God.
18 Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord and that He had spoken these things to her.
19 ¶ Then the same day at evening, being the first of the sabbaths, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, Peace to you!
20 And when He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord.
21 Then Jesus said to them again, Peace to you. As My Father has sent Me, even so I send you.
22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them and said to them, Receive the Holy Spirit.

1 Cor 15

3 For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received, that Christ died for our sins, according to the Scriptures,
4 and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures;
5 and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the Twelve.
6 Afterward He was seen by over five hundred brothers at once, of whom the greater part remain until this present day, but also some fell asleep.
7 Afterward He was seen by James, then by all the apostles.
8 And last of all He was seen by me also, as one born out of time.

Mark 16

19 Then indeed, after speaking to them, the Lord was taken up into Heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.

Ephesians 4

8 Therefore He says, "When He ascended up on high, He led captivity captive and gave gifts to men."
9 (Now that He ascended, what is it but that He also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?
10 He who descended is the same also as He who ascended up far above all heavens, that He might fill all things.)

Ephesians 1

15 ¶ Therefore I also, hearing of your faith in the Lord Jesus and love to all the saints,
16 do not cease giving thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers,
17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him,
18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened, that you may know what is the hope of His calling, and what is the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,
19 and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us, the ones believing according to the working of His mighty strength
20 which He worked in Christ in raising Him from the dead, and He seated Him at His right hand in the heavenlies,
21 far above all principality and authority and power and dominion, and every name being named, not only in this world, but also in the coming age.
22 And He has put all things under His feet and gave Him to be Head over all things to the church,
23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.

Acts 2

22 Men, Israelites, hear these words. Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by powerful works, and wonders and miracles, which God did through Him in your midst, as you yourselves also know,
23 this One given to you by the before-determined counsel and foreknowledge of God, you have taken and by lawless hands, crucifying Him , you put Him to death;
24 whom God raised up, having loosed the pains of death, because it was not possible that He should be held by it.
25 For David speaks concerning Him, "I foresaw the Lord always before me, because He is at my right hand, that I should not be moved.
26 Therefore my heart rejoiced and my tongue was glad; and also My flesh shall rest in hope,
27 because You will not leave My soul in Hades, nor will You allow Your holy One to see corruption.
28 You revealed to Me the ways of life. You will fill Me with joy with Your countenance."
29 Men, brothers, it is permitted to say to you with plainness as to the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.
30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, He would raise up Christ to sit upon his throne,
31 seeing this beforehand, he spoke of the resurrection of Christ, that His soul was not left in Hades, nor would His flesh see corruption,
32 God raised up this Jesus, of which we all are witnesses.
33 Therefore being exalted to the right of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He has poured out this which you now see and hear.
34 For David has not ascended into the heavens, but he says himself, "The LORD said to my Lord, Sit at My right hand
35 until I place Your enemies as a footstool to Your feet."
36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God made this same Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.

Acts 13

26 Men, brothers, sons of the race of Abraham, and whoever among you fears God, the word of this salvation is sent to you.
27 For those living in Jerusalem, and their rulers, not having known this One, and the voices of the prophets being read throughout every sabbath, condemning Him , they fulfilled the Scriptures .
28 And finding not one cause of death in Him , they begged Pilate to do away with Him.
29 And when they had fulfilled all that was written concerning Him, taking Him down from the tree, they laid Him in a tomb.
30 But God raised Him from the dead,
31 who appeared for many days by those who came up with Him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are His witnesses to the people.
32 And we preach the gospel to you, the promise made to the fathers,
33 this God has fulfilled to us their children, raising up Jesus, as also it is written in the second Psalm, "You are My Son, this day I have begotten You."
34 And that He raised Him up from the dead, no more to return to corruption, He spoke in this way: "I will give you the holy promises of David."
35 Therefore he also says in another psalm , "You shall not allow Your Holy One to see corruption."
36 For after he had served his own generation by the will of God, David fell asleep and was added to his fathers and saw corruption.
37 But He whom God raised again saw no corruption.
38 Therefore be it known to you, men, brothers, that through this One the forgiveness of sins is announced to you.
39 And by Him all who believe are justified from all things, from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses.
40 Therefore beware lest that come on you which is spoken of in the prophets:
41 "Behold, you despisers, and marvel, and perish; for I work a work in your days, a work which you shall in no way believe, though a man declare it to you."

Romans 6

3 Do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into His death?
4 Therefore we were buried with Him by baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father; even so we also should walk in newness of life.
5 For if we have been joined together in the likeness of His death, we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection;
6 knowing this, that our old man is crucified with Him in order that the body of sin might be destroyed, that from now on we should not serve sin.
7 For he who died has been justified from sin.
8 But if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him,
9 knowing that when Christ was raised from the dead, He dies no more; death no longer has dominion over Him.
10 For in that He died, He died to sin once; but in that He lives, He lives to God.
11 Likewise count yourselves also to be truly dead to sin, but alive to God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts.

Galatians 1

1 ¶ Paul, an apostle (not from men, nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised Him from the dead),
2 and all the brothers with me, to the churches of Galatia.
3 Grace be to you, and peace from God the Father and from our Lord Jesus Christ,
4 who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil world according to the will of God and our Father,
5 to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.

2 Timothy 1

8 Therefore you should not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner. But be partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God,
9 who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given us in Christ Jesus before the eternal times.
10 But it is now having been manifested by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who has made death of no effect, bringing life and immortality to light through the gospel;

1 Peter 1

17 And if you call on the Father, who without respect of persons judges according to the work of each one, pass the time of your earthly residence in fear,
18 knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, silver or gold, from your vain manner of life handed down from your fathers,
19 but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot;
20 indeed having been foreknown before the foundation of the world, but revealed in the last times for you,
21 those believing in God through Him, He who raised Him up from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope might be in God.
22 Purifying your souls in the obedience of the truth through the Spirit to unfeigned love of the brothers, love one another fervently out of a pure heart,
23 having been born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, through the living word of God, and abiding forever.

Revelation 1

4 Grace to you and peace from Him who is and who was and who is coming; and from the seven spirits which are before His throne;
5 even from Jesus Christ the faithful Witness, the First-born from the dead and the Ruler of the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood,
6 and made us kings and priests to God and His Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
7 Behold, He comes with the clouds, and every eye will see Him, and those who pierced Him will see Him, and all the kindreds of the earth will wail because of Him. Even so, Amen.
8 I am the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the Ending, says the Lord, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.
12 And I turned to see the voice that spoke with me.
13 And having turned, I saw seven golden lampstands. And in the midst of the seven lampstands I saw One like the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the feet, and tied around the breast with a golden band.
14 His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow. And His eyes were like a flame of fire.
15 And His feet were like burnished brass having been fired in a furnace. And His voice was like the sound of many waters.
16 And He had seven stars in His right hand, and out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword. And His face was like the sun shining in its strength.
17 And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. And He laid His right hand upon me, saying to me, Do not fear, I AM the First and the Last,
18 and the Living One, and I became dead, and behold, I AM alive for ever and ever, Amen. And I have the keys of hell and of death.
