Pope Steve's Papal Pilgrimage to Cooperstown

It was a gala weekend on July 21-23, 2000 as Pope Steve was invited to join the Baseball Hall of Fame induction ceremonies. The Pope learned many things, like just beacause a hotel(The Oasis) advertises that they have a bar, that does not mean that you can get a drink. It is always safer to have a cooler of your own with you. Remember this.

Your Holiness welcomes The Flock!

It was a beautiful warm, summer day as Pope Steve welcomed the many thousands that showed up for The Year 2000 Baseball Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies. After His Holiness warned people not to take the brown acid and not to climb on the light towers, everyone settled down and had a wonderful day. The clouds were unusually fluffy as an estimated crowd of 30,000 joined Pope Steve in welcoming The Year 2000 inducties. The only sad part of the day was that there was no cold, refreshing Budweiser sold on the site....P.S. That is NOT Pope Steve's chair or wagon in the background!

Two Legends Finally Meet!

Yo, Yo, Yo, Wasss Upppp! It was a great day on Sunday, July 23, 2000 as two homies with the upmost respect for each other finally met, The Pope of Baseball and Negro League Hall of Famer Pee Wee Jenkins.(Pope Steve is on the right.)The two had a lot of laughs and told many old baseball stories while they were chillin', such as how fellow Hall of Famer Josh Gibson would never pick up the check. Pee Wee also presented The Pope with a special autographed ball.

The Bambino!

Perhaps the most fun of the whole weekend was getting to meet The Bambino, The Sultan of Swat, George Herman Ruth. It was indeed an honor to sit down and have a few cold, refreshing Budweisers with the best baseball player of all time! Here you see Pope Steve and Brother Tom listen to The Babe(in the middle) spin one of his many yarns from yesteryear. The Babe may have had a few too many on this day though. He could not recall ever hearing of one Pee Wee Jenkins.
