Ship of dreams
Ch.34
Nick's eyes popped open and he adjusted his eyes to the darkness of the room. His eyes moved around as he tried to remember clearly where he was. He felt a soft body shift away from his chest and everything came back to him. He folded his arms behind his head and glanced over at Amy's naked back as she slept soundly next to him. A warm smile grew on his face. He couldn't believe where he was and who he was with and how great he felt to be at that place. He was finally in the arms of someone he was truly loved by. No matter what happened that day, no matter what happened to them, they had this moment to look back on.
A large clasp of thunder sent Amy up in the bed. She looked around, frightened by the loud booming sound. As soon as she looked back at Nick, her fears were gone. She smiled, pulled the covers under her arms and laid back down on the pillow next to him. He rolled to his side and looked up at her. He smiled.
"Any regrets?" he whispered. Amy propped her head on her hand and shook her head.
"No way," she replied softly, "What about you?" He took his hand and ran it along the side of her hair, brushing it away from her face. His eyes delved deeply into hers.
"Hell no. I've never been more satisfied in my life."
Amy leaned in closer and took his face in both of her hands, making him fall on his back. She laid on top of him and pressed her lips against his. He wrapped his arms around her bare back, pulling her closer. She leaned her head back and sat up on his stomach.
"Good," she replied, "Feel like another round?" He smiled slyly at her.
"Whenever you're ready..."
She leaned down to kiss him again when they heard the doorbell ring. Amy broke away and turned her face sideways looking towards the bedroom door out to the living room.
"Who in the hell could that be this early in the morning?" Nick started kissing the side of her neck and jawline.
"Don't worry about it," he whispered, "It's probably Brian or A.J. checking up on me. They'll leave eventually." Amy turned back to Nick and kissed him again. The banging got louder. Amy sat up again. Nick sighed, exasperated.
"Nick, Amy, I know you're in there!" they heard Brian yell, "Now answer the damn door!" Amy stood up and grabbed her robe, tying it tightly around her waist. Nick pulled the white sheets over his head. Amy walked into the living room.
"C'mon ya'll!" Brian yelled, "I'm getting wet!" Amy opened the door slightly.
"What do you want, Brian?" she snapped. Brian peeked around the door.
"Where's Nick?" Amy stepped back to let him in.
"Oh, I don't know," Amy smirked, "Possibly in my bed.." Brian finally noticed her robe. His eyes widened.
"Whoa!"
Amy blushed and pulled her robe in tighter. "I'll go get Nick.." She turned to walk down the hall when she saw him come out the door in his white t-shirt and boxers. "And there he is now.." Nick walked in the room, glaring at his wet best friend.
"What do you want, Rok?" he snapped. Brian looked over at Amy, trying to signal her to leave the room. She got it.
"I guess I'll go take a shower," she spoke up. Turning on her heels, she walked into her room and locked the door. Brian and Nick watched her walk in then turned to each other.
******
"Well?" Nick asked. Brian started to sit down but decided against it because he was wet. He leaned against the wall and looked up at Nick.
"Why didn't you call me last night when you got in?" Nick looked a little shocked.
"What? Do I have to call and check in with you now?" he snapped, "Are you my substitute father now?" Brian shook his head.
"No but with the weather last night, you should've let me know you were going to Amy's. You had me worried."
"Thanks," Nick sneered, "But I think I know how to take care of myself, even in weather like that." Brian nodded and looked down.
"Yeah, I know. It's just..well never mind. I bet calling me was the last thing on your mind last night.." This caused a smile on Nick's face. He crossed his arms on his stomach and looked off, eyebrows raised.
"You're right.." Brian laughed.
"I thought so. So, um...how was she?"
Nick laughed out loud. "Brian Thomas! I don't kiss and tell, you know that," he said loudly, looking back to see if Amy had heard them. When he saw she hadn't, he smiled back at Brian. "She was good..," he mouthed, thrusting his hips. Brian laughed.
"I figured that. Does that make things harder for you?" Nick sat down on the couch, glanced out the window, and looked back at his best friend.
"I don't know. I don't see it now, but after today and in the future...," his voice trailed off.
"We're not leaving today," Brian interrupted him. Nick's head snapped up.
"We're not? Why?"
Brian took the remote, turned the television on the Weather Channel and pointed at the looming object heading straight for them. "That's why," he said. Nick's eyes widened. He looked back at Brian.
"So that's why Jessie and Matt left last night.." Brian looked around the room.
"They left?" he asked.
"Yeah. They left last night. They left Amy a note about it. She didn't mention a hurricane though. What are we going to do?"
"About what?" they heard Amy ask as she walked in the room in a long terry bathrobe with her hair wrapped up in a towel. She sat in Nick's lap and leaned back to kiss him. Brian smiled at the two of them. They reminded him of a happier Nick and Mandy, of him and Leighanne.
"About the hurricane," Nick told her after their kiss broke apart. Amy looked over at the TV and her eyes widened when she heard what the forecasters were saying about it.
"Man," she breathed, "Guess we won't be going home for a couple more days. Even when it leaves here, it'll move through Florida. Damn. We've gotta get to a shelter sometime today." Brian nodded.
"That's what I was thinking. There's one opening up a couple of miles inland. I figured we should pack up all of our clothes and pile into the Pathfinder and Leighanne's beamer and get out of here. We need to do it within the next two or three hours." Amy nodded and stood up.
"I think I'll go start packing now." Nick stood up as well.
"And I'll take a shower here and get home to pack." Brian walked over to the door.
"Well, I'll go on home now. When ya'll get through, come on over there and we'll leave together. Bye!" He walked out the door and ran quickly through the downpour to his house.
Nick and Amy went back into her room. Nick walked into the bathroom with his clothes from the night before and got in the shower. Amy started going through her clothes, leaving out a clean gray tank-top, some clean underwear, and a clean pair of Adidas pants. She packed up everything else.
She walked into the steamy bathroom and glanced at Nick's outlined body through the glass shower. She grabbed her hair dryer and dried her hair while he sang to her from the shower. He stepped out of the shower and she stared at his reflection through the fogged up mirror.
He smiled at her and grabbed her around the waist turning her around. She pointed the hair dryer at him blowing it at his face and hair. He laughed, took the hair dryer from her, turning it off, and laid it on the counter. She smiled at him.
"Don't you get me wet, Carter." He smiled wickedly.
"Wouldn't want to do that again," he teased. She smirked at him.
"Aren't you so cute?" He smiled, kissing the tip of her nose.
"You seem to think so." She smiled.
"No arguments there." He reached down untying her robe. As soon as he did, he slid his hands up her stomach til he got to her shoulders. There he slid the robe off her shoulders til it fell to the ground, puddling around her feet.
"Do we have time to do this?" she asked.
"If we work quick," Nick replied. She smiled at him then wrapped her arms around his neck pulling them closer.
"You're getting me wet again," she said. He kissed her.
"Good," he whispered. They started to make love again when they saw a glimpse of someone run up to their door.
"Whoa, baby!!" they heard A.J. exclaim. Both Nick and Amy turned crimson and slammed the door in his face. "Awww....I wanna see..."
"Go rent a porno then!!" Nick yelled.
"Or watch one of the ones you've got!" Amy added.
"Ya'll are no fun!!" A.J. whined, laughing.
Nick wrapped his towel around his waist and tucked it in. Amy pulled her robe back up and tied it. Nick opened the door and walked out, Amy behind him.
Amy was too embarrassed to look A.J. in the face so she, with head bowed the whole time, grabbed her clean clothes and changed in another bedroom. Nick glared at A.J. before walking over to the bed where Amy had lain his clothes from the night before. He dropped his towel and started dressing.
"What do you want?" he asked A.J. A.J. glared out the door to see if Amy was out of earshot. When he figured she was, he grinned wickedly at Nick.
"So ya'll did a little bump-n-grind last night, eh?" As pissed as Nick was at him for interrupting, he had to laugh. No words, just a grin and a slight laugh. That explained it all to A.J. He grinned.
"Well goody goody for you..." He looked over his shoulder again then leaned over. "So how was she?" Nick looked up with a grin to answer but was interrupted.
"A.J., must you know everyone's business?" Amy walked in, startling the crap out of A.J. A.J. just grinned.
"Can't I believe a little curious at times?" Amy smiled.
"Need I remind you that it was curiosity that killed the cat?" she joked back. "Okay that was corny...So A.J., what brings you here?"
"Brian ran me over to tell you two to hurry up," he explained, "Said the hurricane would be here and gone before you two got out there."
"Since when did Brian become the oh-so impatient one?" Amy snapped.
"I think since Nick decided to become the oh-so grown one," A.J. joked. Amy laughed.
"Nick? Grown? Ha ha!!" Nick scowled at her, but it turned into a grin. A.J. rolled his eyes.
"Anyways, are ya'll ready?" he asked. Nick started pushing him out the door.
"Sure. In a second," he said, grabbing Amy around the waist.
"There's not enough time for that!" A.J. yelled through the slamming door. Nick grinned at Amy.
"There's always time for a quickie." A.J. shook his head and ushered himself out the door, leaving Amy and Nick to themselves.
