Addams Family Values

Addams Family Values

1993

Stars: Raul Julia, Anjelica Huston, Christopher Llyod, Joan Cusack, Christina Ricci, Jimmy Workman.

Director: Barry Sonnenfeld.

Plot: They're back, but this time they have to save Uncle Fester(Christopher Llyod) from marrying a husband killer. Also a new addition to the family is the Addams new baby Pubert. If you remember from the first film, at the end we see Morticia(Anjelica Huston) knitting a baby sweater. Uncle Fester has fallen deeply in love with Debbie Jellinsky(Joan Cusack), little does he know that she's really a husband killer. The family is suspicious of her, but he marrys her anyway. Also, Wednesday(Christina Ricci) and Pugsley(Jimmy Workman) are sent away to summer camp. While there, they hate every moment of it and try to escape. Wednesday meets a boy there, Joel Clicker(David Krumholtz), who too is weird and hates the camp. They form a weird friendship and help the Addams to escape from the camp.

My Thougths: Usually going into a sequel, I expect to be much worse than its predaccesor. But this time I was surprised at how director Sonnenfeld connected the two movies and came up with a good and different plot from the first one. There is still a lot of dark humor which I enjoy and the family is still very strange. I really liked how the baby Pubert was born with a mustache and a full head of hair, and when something bad is happening to an Addams, he starts to act "normal" and enjoys children's books. Also, Joan Cusack does a great job playing the villian and trying to fit into the Addams family. In the camp finale, it was hilarious watching the three kids: Wednesday,Pugsley, and Joel causing chaos as the other kids family watch on in horror. I particualy like watching them roast their counsuelers on an open fire. To anyone who liked the first Addams movie, I'm sure that you'd enjoy this one too.
