My Friend, My Enemy, My Wife

Chapter 5 Training

The next few days were intense. If I wasn't sleeping, eating, or talking to Vic or the rest of my family, I was in training. I lifted weights, ran, jumped rope, and every other exercise I knew. I also practice the every form of martial arts that I knew. Practicing all of these martial arts wore me out, but I wasn't done for the day. After all that, I still had to go to my mom so she could teach me the new skills I would need. At first it was hard to get into this routine, but I settled into it nicely. I had to, for the sake of my family. The thing I never got settled into was the training session with my mom. She seemed to have gotten a hidden fire. She pushed me to the edge of my endurance and over. For a while, I thought I was going crazy. The first skill she taught me was the tracking. It wasn't that hard, but it took a lot of concentration. You had to focus on your surroundings and get a picture in your mind of the things that should and shouldn't be there. At first I could poorly, but with mom's help, I was an expert in a few days. When I had mastered that skill, mom taught me how to blend in with my surroundings. That was the easiest skill I learned in those few days. It required a ton of practice to become totally adapt, but when I was, I could hide in plain sight with ease. It was fun disappearing right in front of people then popping up behing them a moment later. The next skill she taught me was my favorite and also the hardest I learned. My mom taught me how to speak and understand animals. I could "talk" with any animal I saw as long as I didn't say anything to insult them. Don't get me wrong. They didn't answer questions like who their favorite football team was or even say any words, but images would come into my head about questions I asked them. It was a lot of hard work and it took me a while to perfect it. Once I had it perfected, though, I would constantly talk with a bird or a cat or dog. It was such a thrill. One day while I was with a hawk from the mountains, I saw a very familiar man standing outside of my mom's shop. This was a man I knew very well. He was the one who caused my suspicious behavior with Vic. Xaviar. As quietly and as quickly as I could, I back to the shop and snuck up behind him. When I was ready, I smacked him in the back of his head with the handle of my knife. Then, I dragged him inside and laid him on the couch. I walked away and got Mom from where she was working on her computer. "What was he doing here?" she asked. She wasn't scared, but I could tell she was nervous. "Why would he come here?" She paused as a thought came over her. "If he is here, so are the others. Lock up everything. We're about to be attacked!" At that moment, Xaviar opened his eyes and smiled.
