Elizabeth "Betsy" Braddock aka Psylocke

Well, Psylocke fans will look at the main picture I'm using and say "Wow, that's an old one!" in confusion, but I use it for a reason...this is my favorite version of Psylocke, before the whole Mojo thing, the body switch, the Legacy Virus, the whole Crimson Dawn thing, the loss of the telepathy, and even the suddan manifestation of telekenesis.

My absolute favorite issue is Uncanny X-Men #213, which is from 1986...I read it almost ten years later than it's release date though. It takes place after the Morlock's Massacre by the Marauders, when allmost all the X-Men are either injured or missing. Psylocke is using Cerebro to guard the mansion and the injured X-Men that are below in the infirmry when Sabertooth breaks in. She attempts to fight him, leading him away from the infirmary where the injured are, knowing that her death means the survival of the rest. It is an amazing psychological story for we get to be inside Psylocke's thoughts, and realize the great strength of character and resolve that is there.

Yes, I did like Psylocke gaining some fighting skills, and her Asian look is neat, and did save her life I guess, as her origional body (Revanche) died from the Legacy Virus. (Update thingy-she died anyway, killed in battle. See a fan site for the details) But the whole body-switch thing that fractures her personality was too confusing and just plain annoying. Did the powers at Marvel just decide that she wasn't interesting enough as herself? Because they took away everything I liked so much about her and made her into a completly different character.

Isn't it wonderful being a telepath?- Bishop: "Betsy, could you --" Psylocke: "Here." Bishop: "-- Pass the... salt?" (Uncanny X-Men #337)
