Unlike on their debut, “Gordon”, on “Born on a Pirate Ship” the Barenaked Ladies are much subtler in their humor. It has many songs that deal with serious subjects such as suicide, accidental shooting, and taking a walk down memory lane by going to your previous apartment, with such an air that you almost forget how depressing the song’s subject actually is. Yes, the medical lines in “This is where it Ends” are out of nowhere, and “Call me Calmly” is sort of corny, but so what? The beat is stronger, the lyrics are cleverer, more mature, and Andy Creggan gets his own song, what more could you ask?

My Favorite Things About this Album
I know we don't live here any more
We bought an old house onn the Danforth
She loves me her body keeps me warm
I'm happy there
But this is where we used to live!
Broke into the old apartment
Tore the phone out of the wall
Only memories, fading memories
Blending into dull tableaux
I want them back.
