He struck out Middletown's Adam Faass on his very first pitch. And although things may not get that easy again for H-K's Chris Islieb, the Cougar's right-hander sure knows what to do with a five-run lead. "I've got a great defense behind me," said Isleib. "I just had to throw strikes and my defense would do it for me." Pressed into service after a freak injury to H-K starter Ryan Jurewicz, Isleib pitched a terrific game for his first victory of the season as H-K drowned Middletown, 9-2, Saturday April 14. Jurewicz suffered a gash on his pitching hand when he dove along the first baseline and collided with catcher Andrew Chester as they tried to sweep Faass's bunt attempt into foul territory and Chester landed on his hand. Isleib entered the game with the Cougars ahead 5-0 and allowed just four hits over six innings. "I don't think it was anything fancy," said H-K coach Mark Brookes. "He had good location with his fastball and he stayed around the strike-zone. He didn't get a lot of strikeouts but he was getting ground balls and pop-outs." The only runs the Blue Dragons mustered against Islieb came on Mike Cavaliere's towering two-run homer over the left field fence after Eric Biegen. H-K took advantage of three Middletown errors in the first inning and grabbed a 5-0 lead against the Blue Dragons Troy Johanson. Johanson also walked one and hit a batter (Chester) in the opening inning. Jurewicz delievered a big hit for the Cougars, lining a two-run double down the left field, while Sam Todzia delievered an RBI single.
