"Hey, hey, wait a minute!" I turned around and saw AJ poking his head out of the jet door. He hopped down the stairs and jogged over to us.
He stood in front of us and I noticed that my mouth had fallen open I quickly closed it.
"Don't I owe you an autograph or something?" He asked looking into my eyes. I was still in shock when Vanessa nugged me in the ribs.
"Oh, uh, you don't really owe me anything but it would be nice," I told him.
We both stood there looking at AJ. Then he started to smile.
“Well, do you have something for me to sign and a pen or marker…” he said.
“Oh. Oh, umm actually I uh, have these uh, postcards, well not postcards, but, uh um…” I fumbled through my pockets looking for my pictures of AJ that I had, also I fumbled for words too.
“Well, I, uh, I like them. But, Oh. Here they are.” I said as I pulled them out of my pocket.
AJ smiled again. He looked quite amused by my loss for words. As he signed them he looked up and said “Oh, I forgot to ask for your name.”
“My name? My name is … is … Angela! My name is Angela.” I was so embarrassed! “And this is my cousin Vanessa.”
“Hey Vanessa what’s up,” he said to her.
Vanessa smiled and said, “Oh, not much. Could I get an autograph after your done?”
“Sure can sweetie,” he said as he handed back my cards. “What would you like me to sign?”
“Well all I have is this scrapbook but its not Backstreet Boys. It’s my miniature scrapbook of Gwen Stefani.” She pulled it out of her purse, AJ’s eyes widened.
“Ooh, let me see it! Ah, Gwen Stefani. The love of my life!” He said holding the book to his chest and letting out a big sigh. Me and Vanessa giggled.
Then Vanessa said “I don’t really want you to sign it. But I knew you’d like to see it. Can you sign the poster we made instead?”
“Yeah hold on… Man she’s hot!” AJ said, “You wouldn’t mind if I kept this would you?”
“No!” Vanessa said and snatched the book from him. “Do you know how long it took me to make this?”
“You mean you like Gwen too? You didn’t make it just for me?” AJ said.
“No I’ve liked Gwen for a couple years now,” Vanessa said.
“Oh. Well where’s that poster you want me to sign?” AJ asked still eyeing Vanessa book.I was holding it so I handed it over to him. I started to wonder where the other Boys were so I peeked behind AJ. Just as I did I saw Nick slowly walking over to us while eating a piece of chocolate cake.
“Hey AJ, what’s going on?” Nick asked taking another bite of cake.
“Oh I promised to sign autographs for these girls so that’s what I’m doing right now,” he said. “Hey where’d you get that cake? I’m hungry!”
“The caterer’s are here. There’s chicken, rice, veggies, lemonade and lots of cake!” Nick said “Chocolate cake… mmm.”
“Well here’s your autographs. I’m really glad you guys had a good time. Thank you for being a part of our video,” AJ told us.
“Thank you for signing our things AJ. That was really sweet that you remembered about me,” I told him.
“Oh you guys are going to have to walk back to the tent because the buses already took off,” Nick said.
“Nick don’t be rude. This is Vanessa and Angela. You girls wouldn’t happen to be hungry would you?” AJ asked putting his hand on my arm.
“Uh, no thanks AJ. We’d better get going. We wouldn’t want to bother you guys…” I started to say (what was I thinking?!?)
“No, no bother,” he said. “I’d really like you to come,” he said looking into my eyes again.
“Oh, uh,um… Well…I, uh…”
“What she means is sure. We’re starving!” Vanessa answered for me.
“You wanna bite of cake?” Nick asked shoving a fork full towards AJ’s face.
“Nick…” AJ pushed his hand away.“Come on girls I’m sure the other guys won’t mind,” AJ said as he grabbed our arms and pulled us over to where the food table was set up. The food smelled so good and I was so hungry.When we got to the table the other guys already had their plates piled with food and were going to sit down at another table. They all turned their eyes toward us as we walked up.“Hey, I want to introduce you guys to my new friends, Angela and Vanessa. They missed the bus because of me so I decided to take care of them for awhile,” AJ said.I couldn’t believe what was happening. It felt like a dream. We were actually going to have dinner with the Backstreet Boys!
“Yep, that sounds just like AJ,” Brian said. “You’re such a flirt!”
“Hey being nice to someone doesn’t mean I’m trying to flirt, I’m just…being nice,” he said with a sheepish grin on his face.
Nick handed us a paper plate and said, ”Dig in. Doesn’t it smell good? Mmmm…”We started getting our food.
“I don’t know if I’m going to be able to eat,” Vanessa whispered “I think I’m too nervous.”
AJ looked up “Hey what’s all the secret telling about? No secrets,” he smiled.
We went and sat down with the guys. They were all so handsome! Brian was making funny faces and noises. We were laughing so hard but the other guys seemed to be used to Brian’s silliness.After we finished eating we knew our magical night was going to be over. We threw our plates away and sat down for awhile longer.
“We have a couple more scenes to shoot…” Howie started to say.
“So you wouldn’t mind hanging around awhile longer until we’re finished would you?” AJ asked grabbing my hand.
It was getting late. It was around 9:30 p.m. by then. I looked at Vanessa. “Well it’s up to Vanessa she’s the one with the car.” I said.
“Of course we can wait. But you wouldn’t happen to have a phone I can borrow to call my mom and let her know my plans, would you?” She said.
“Here,” Nick said pulling his cell phone out of his big jacket. “You can use mine.” He handed it over to Vanessa.Just then two loud airplanes flew over head. I had to plug my ears because it was so loud.“Go in that room,” Nick said pointing to the back of the hander. “It’s a lot quieter in there.”
“Great, thanks,” Vanessa said. She went to the room. Right when she pushed the button to turn it on someone called. “Darn,” Vanessa thought to herself. “Should I hang up so Nick won’t think that I’m trying to be nosey or what if it’s important…I guess just say hello…
"Uh, Hello?” She finally said.
“Who the hell is this?!?” an angry female voice said on the other end. “Where’s Nick!?! Why are you answering his phone?!?”
“Hold on, I’ll get him.” Vanessa jogged to Nick, worried she had done something she shouldn’t have.“Nick I’m so sorry she called right when I turned it on, and well, whoever it is she is really angry!” Vanessa gushed to Nick.
He smiled at her, He wasn’t angry at all. “It’s alright. I know who it is anyway…” He took the phone and took a deep breath “Hello?” He said walking away from the group.
“Who the hell answered the phone, Nick?” Mandy shouted.
“She just wanted to use my phone for a minute and answered it by accident. Just calm down alright,” Nick told her as calmly as he could.
“Well we’ll find out soon enough,” she answered. “Amanda, Leighanne and I are on our way to surprise you guys but it looks more like we’re in for the surprise, huh, Nick?!? I swear it if anything is going on…”
“Look just quit bitching. You have done nothing but put me through hell these past couple of months. Maybe you have a guilty conscious for what you did to me with that other guy, huh? Is that why you’re always on my case? I don’t think that I can put up with this hurt for much longer.” Nick looked so hurt we could see it on his face even though he was 15 feet away.
“Whatever, we’ll talk about it when we get there we’ll be there in about 15 minutes ‘Click’ she hung up on Nick.
Nick put his head down and slowly walked over to us.
“What’s wrong Nick?” Brian asked with a concern look on his face.
“Mandy,” AJ said. “That’s what is usually wrong you should just end it. You can still be friends and all but she just doesn’t treat you right.”
“Well anyway her, Amanda and Leighanne are coming right now.” Nick informed the guys.
My heart did flip flops. Amanda was AJ’s girlfriend. Why was he acting like he really liked me if he’s still with her. He must have saw the confused look in my eyes because he took my hand and said, “Can I talk to you alone for a minute.” I shrugged and said “For one minute.”
”I know what you must be thinking…”
“No, AJ, you don’t,” I said softly. “Why in the world were you holding my hand and rubbing my arms, I mean you have a girlfriend. I should’ve known, stuff like this always happens to me. I know we have only known each other for a couple hours but it… I mean it feels like…”
“Like we’ve known each other for years,” AJ finished my sentence.
“Well yeah,” I said looking into his eyes I could tell by his face that he really meant it.
“Look I don’t want to be the one to sabotage your relationship with…Amanda, so I think it’d be best if I left now. I mean you know I really like you but I just can’t do that to you guys.” I pulled my hands out of his.
“Well are you still going to wait until we’re done shooting our last scenes?” He asked not wanting me to leave.
“AJ I don’t want to sabatoge your relationship but I also don’t want to see you with her. I just want to leave. I’m not feeling to well.” My stomach felt like it was in a tight knot, my heart was struggling to beat, and I felt so weak. I slowly made my way over to Vanessa who was comforting Nick. “Can we please go?” I asked Vanessa.
I noticed Nick was holding her hand.“What? Why?” she asked.
“I don’t feel well.” I didn’t after all it wasn’t a lie.
She looked at Nick. “Uh, Well Nick, I guess…”
“Nevermind. I’m just going to go rest in the car,” I could tell that Nick wanted her there and she didn’t want to leave him either. “Can I please have the keys?”
“Are you sure?” she asked looking concerned.
I didn’t mean to worry her I must have looked awful.“Yeah. Yeah I think I just need to rest for awhile. I’ll be in the car when you’re ready to leave…take your time.” I turned and walked away.
“Do you want me to walk you to…” AJ started. I held my hand up and kept walking without looking back. I didn’t want anyone to see the tears streaming down my face. Why was I so hurt? I had only known him for a couple hours. Maybe it was the way we looked into each others eyes or the way he gently held my hand in his or the way he playfully wrapped my hair around his finger. I don’t know but thinking about it made my stomach hurt even more. I got to the car reclined the seat and fell fast asleep.
