"Well, Good Morning to you too Brooke, how was your day so far?" Cari answered.
"What time did you go home? I called you up at one o' clock and you were still not home! Where were you? You didn't even call
me yesterday." she said clearly annoyed.
"I went home at 2:00 if you must know mom!" she said wryly.
"So what's the scoop? What did you talk about? Was he nice? Did he kiss you?" Brooke said as she plopped down on Cari's
leather chairs.
"Hey slow down," she said chuckling, "And no he did not kiss me, he was a perfect gentleman and we talked about everything. He
was funny, nice and really cute."
Unknown to Cari, Brooke was looking at her with a weird expression. When she finally noticed Brooke, she said, "What?"
"Nothing, well, I have to go. I just went here to check if you were still alive. Just buzz me if you need anything." she said
as she stood up.
As Brooke went out of the door Brooke thought about her best friend's baffling behavior. "She thought Nick was cute? She never
used that word in her life! And talked about everything? Now something's really wrong. I'll get to the bottom of this later."
"No, thanks. You know one of those freakin' days that nothing seems to be right," she sighed.
"Okay, take a deep breath. Calm down." BJ said and she complied.
"Thanks, I needed that."
"Anytime,"
"So what brings you here? You don't have a shoot today," suddenly she remembered something, "Hey is your brother acting normal
since his date with Cari yesterday?"
"Well actually that is why I'm here to ask you about something about Cari."
"Shoot,"
"Nick's been really nice since yesterday. Since his date with Cari. In my living years, I have never seen my brother act so
nice to me or my siblings. He even did our laundry, and since he hates that chore, I know something's up."
"Well, Cari's also acting the same way, which I think is waaayy weird since she is always so focused with everything.
She seems to forget everything. And guess what? She described your brother as cute! "Cute" was never part of her vocabulary as
far as I can recall."
BJ stiffled a giggle, "Nick hates to be called "cute". Anyway is it true about what the people in the agency tell me about?"
"About what, who?"
"About Cari, they call her "The Black Widow". Well actually they heard it from her ex-boyfriends. They tell them that Cari
drops them when they say the four letter word. I don't want Nick to get hurt you know, even though he isn't exactly my favorite
person in the world."
"Let's just say that Cari is afraid of committment. That's as far as I can go to tell you."
"Well, thanks anyway. I have to go home. When I left, Nick was claning Leslie's room, I don't want mine to be next! Ciao and
say hi to Cari for me okay?"
"Will do, bye!"
When BJ was out of the door, Brooke sighed. This was the first time someone asked her about Cari's disturbing behavior and it
affected Brooke since she was indirectly connected to it too. Brooke knew that it was impossible that Cari would fall for such
a young guy. As far as Brooke knew, Cari has never fallen in love withany guy for that matter.
"Knock, knock to you too. Liked your room?" he asked.
"What did you do to it!" she shrieked.
"Oowww, don't scream, I'm like a few feet away from you. I cleaned it, didn't you like it?" he asked innocently.
"I told you not to touch my room! I swear to God that I'll bash your room when your out!" she said as she stormed out of her
brother's room.
"Talk about appreciation!" he muttered.
After a few minutes, he decided to call Cari thinking she was already home since it was already nine in the evening.
"C'mon, pick up, pick up' he said muttering to himself.
Ring....Ring....pause...."You've reached Cari Sanders' private phone number. She is out right now so please leave you name,
message and your phone number after the beep....BEEP!"
"Hey Cari, it's me, Nick. Uh, where are you? It's already nine in the evening. Well, just wanted to say hi and..."
"Nick, hey..."
"Hey Cari, it's me, Nick. Uh, where are you? It's already nine in the evening. Well, just wanted to say hi and,"
After debating whether she would pick up the phone or not, she picked the first choice. "Nick, hey. I just got out of the
shower. What's up?"
"Nothing much. Just wanted to hear your voice."
"Oh, how classic," she chuckled.
"So, how was work?" he asked.
"Tiring but fun. The usual. How 'bout you? How was your day?"
Nick blushed, thinking about what he did to his sisters' rooms. "Played b-ball with the guys. Oh and speaking of the guys, I
wanted to ask you to watch our concert in Orlando this weekend."
"This weekend? I can't, I have a meeting." she answered, dejected.
"Please? Pretty, pretty please?,"
"I'm sorry, maybe another time?"
"There's no another time, just this one night concert in Orlando. Please? The guys would love to see you again."
"You won't let me not come are you?" she asked wryly.
Nick laughed. "Yeah. Please, pretty pleeeaaase?"
"With cherry on top?"
"With cerry on top, "Nick confirmed.
"Well, okay. Can I bring Brooke?" she asked.
"Yeah sure. It would be nice to see her again. So I'll just send the tickets and backstage passes tomorrow to your office, okay?"
"Yeah sure."
"I'll see you on Saturday okay?"
"Okay, see 'ya. Bye!"
"Bye, G'night"
"G'night."
"These came in for you by courier mail."
"Thanks Geena, and please page Brooke for me, okay?"
"Sure."
"Thanks,"
She opened the envelope and saw the Backstreet Boys' concert tickets and backstage passes for Saturday night.
"Whoa, front row, center. This guy has it bad." she said to herself. She placed the tickes and the passes back to the envelope.
After a few minute, Brooke went inside the room, looking a bit better than yesterday.
"Hey Cari, 'sup? Another date and you need me to fill up for you?" she said teasingly.
"Well sorta. Will you come with me on Saturday to the Backstreet Boys' concert?"
"What?! The band Nick is in? Why? You don't like their music."
"I didn't say I didn't their music! C'mon just for fun. Besides it's hard to get these tickets, front row, center."
"Front row, center? Whoa, that's expensive, let's scalp them!"
"Oh c'mon, it'll be fun. Something to take all the pressure we've been getting from these shoots, contracts and meetings.
Besides, the guys would love to see us again."
"What time will it start?"
"You can sleepover at my house so we can go to the concert together."
"Well that makes it easier. Sure I'll go."
"Okay, see you on Saturday."
"Oh how about you super important meeting on Saturday? Whose going to fill in for you?"
"I'll ask Eric to fill in for me." Eric was a senior director at LIMPA.
Brooke went out of Cari's office. I can't believe this! She has never missed a meeting for a anything much less a concert!
There is something going on, can it be? Thinking about her friend's excited and giddy attitude. Nah, it's just been a week
since she met him. Not in a million years.
"Hey Frick," Nick greeted his best friend as he went inside his room.
"What's up Kaos?" Brian said. He threw the basketball he was holding to Nick.
"Ooofff. What was that for?"
"Well you were supposed to catch it, duh!" Brian said wryly, "So what are you doing here?"
"Cari and Brooke are coming to our concert at Orlando on Saturday, do you mind?"
"Why would I mind?"
"Nothing, tell the other guys that they'll be there on Saturday, okay?"
"Sure, doncha want to go one on one with me?"
"Nah, I have to go home, I'm dish duty today."
"Chicken?" Brian said challengingly.
"Get ready to get you ass kicked out." Nick said as he grabbed the ball from the floor.
The two went outside and played a mean game of basketball
Monday morning, at Cari's office...
Brooke barged into Cari's office without announcing herself. "What time did
you go home last Saturday?" she asked.
Next day at the studio...
BJ came in the studio and the first person that she saw was Brooke looking
really haggard. "Hey Brooke, what's up? Need any help?" she asked.
"Nickolas Carter! What the freakin' hell have you done to my room!" BJ yelled,
already hunting his brother. She barged in his brother's room, which was now immaculately clean, without knocking. Nick had
his hand on the back of his head and staring at the ceiling
Cari had just come out of the shower when she heard the incoming call. She
heard Nick's voice.
Genna entered the room holding a brown legal envelope.
