"Cari, Brooke is already here."
Turning around, smiling, "Tell her I'll be there in a minute." Janet gave her an odd look then went away.
Frowning, she sighed. "Jeez, Brooke...how different we are. Why can't she just mind her own business anyway? Men are just beasts in disguise. I'll keep my promise mama, just not the usual way of hurting them..." she thought. Finally, getting up to meet her bestfriend.
"Cari! Ooohhhhh, I haven't seen you since last month! How was Paris? Meet any guys?" Brooke said excitedly, still hugging Cari.
"Well, I met a cute six foot male of a hunk. One of my models. He's coming for dinner, wanna join us?"
With that Brooke let go of Cari and looked at her suspiciously. "You're not going to do what I think you're going to do are you? Please tell me that you're not!" Brooke pleaded.
"Maybe, maybe not. It's my prerogative to do what I want. Want to stay and see?" Cari asked.
"I'd rather not. Oh and Ethan and I have a date tonight." she said mischievously.
Cari groaned. Ethan McAllister is Brooke's boyfriend for 3 years and Cari repeatedly warned her about men. It sickens her to see her bestfriend be lovey dovey with her boyfriend. It reminded her of the way her parents used to act before her father became abusive.
"That was a rhetorical question! I need you to help and for moral support when the time comes."
"Moral Support, my butt!" Brooke shot back.
"Pleeaasseee!"
"Oh, okay. And one more thing, not all men are like your father or Jamie."
Cari winced when Jamie, her first attempt, was mentioned. He was like her father, she still bore the emotional abuse that he did to her.
"They're all the same to me, first they act as if they're saints then they show their real colors when your already their girlfriend. And if I may remind you, Jamie wasn't my boyfriend. He didn't even ask me out! Men are pigs, period." Cari said.
"Tonight mama, we will have our revenge..." Cari thought as she looked at her reflection, her eyes giving off flecks of silver.
Matthew Colburn, the model Cari was dating told her yesterday that he loved her...
They were eating at an Indian restaurant when Matt held Cari's hand, "Cari, I think I'm falling in love with you, no, no, I am certain that I love you."
Digusted as she was Cari responded, "Are you sure Matt?"
"I have never been sure in my life Cari." Matt said quietly. "Oh Matt, I love you too." Matt then kissed Cari, unknown to Matt that this was the last time that he would kiss Cari.
Janet Baker appeared at her room, "Cari, Brooke is here and Mr. Colburn is at line 1."
"Tell Brooke..."
"Yes, I know, I know..."I'll be downstairs in a minute." she said laughingly.
Cari hugged her. "Thanks." Janet turned and went downstairs.
"This is no different, he is nothing to me. Good thing Brooke is here, I'll need her." she said to herself.
"Hello Brooke. Wait a minute, Matt is on the phone." waving hi to Brooke.
Picking up the phone, "Carisse Sanders here,"
"Hey Cari, why the professional greeting? What's up?" Matt greeted.
"May I know who's on the other line?" Cari asked stonily.
A bit confused, "Cari, it's Matt, remember? Tall, handsome guy that said "I love You" to you yesterday?"
"Matt? I don't know any guy named Matt. And if this a prank call, I'm going to call the cops." Cari said
Brooke, hearing the conversation, groaned and slapped her head with her hand saying, "Not again!"
"Cari, it's Matt as in Matthew Colburn." Matt said really confused now.
"If you have nothing to do, go bother someone else." Cari said slamming the phone.
"Lemme guess, he said the dreaded sentence. So now you're dropping him like you don't know him." Brooke said wryly.
"Of course, I wouldn't have done it if he hadn't said I love you."
"But you would have played with him more if he hadn't said it sooner. He's like what, your 12th victim since you were 14!"
"I told you not only they are stupid, they're also gullible!" Cari said shaking her head in disgust.
Brooke sighed. "Can I go now? I mean you've accomplished what you want. There are still some photoshoots that I need to finish. Gap and Calvin Klein are like demanding for a schedule. They're being a pain. When are you going back to the office anyway?" Brooke Donahue is the head photographer of Cari's agency and 4 years her senior.
"In two days. I still need you coz, well, as usual, he's coming over here as most of them do, so will you help me dispose of him?" she said slyly.
Brooke groaned. "I always help you but don't you ever get tired of playing with them?"
Cari's face darkened. "As long as I'm alive I will continue doing this." she vowed.
"But Cari, I love you! How could you do this to me?" Matt said pleadingly.
"I don't even know you, how the hell can I love you?" Cari pointed out.
"I don't know what kind of game you're playing, but it sure hell isn't funny anymore! What game is this the "Tell him I love him then drop him game"? Why," Matt said.
Brooke interupted, "Excuse me Mr. Colburn, if that's your real name, this lady is so busy with her schedule that she doesn't have time to get into a relationship. So how can you say that you two had been together for the past month? Maybe your the one who's playing a game." she snorted.
"Brooke, Not you too! You just shot some pictures of me 2 weeks ago for YSL, there's proof, pictures!" he said desperately.
"Mr. Colburn, the publicity pictures for YLS had been developed 3 days ago. Not one guy there resemble you." she said.
Feeling impatient at the time Matt had consumed, "Mr. Colburn, i don't know what prank or game YOUR playing with us but we sure don't want to be part of it. We already let you in even though we did not know you so now I'm giving you fair warning, if your not out in ten seconds, I will call security and I will charge you with trespassing.," Cari said.
"If this is the way you want to end our relationship, fine." Matt said angrily, stalking out of the room and out of Cari's life.
Hearing the door slam, Brooke sighed. "Twelve down, a lot more to go." she groaned.
Cari laughed when she heard this. "As if your not used to it."
"Cari, aren't you aware that they're also human? With feeling if that thought didn't escape your mind." Brooke pointed out.
"I don't care, for me they're all the same. If I let my guard down, I'll be hurt again and that is something I won't ever let happen again." she said breezily, as if what happened only a minute ago was an easy modeling contract. Brooke shook her head in surrender.
