"You don't know everything, Jessica," Devon said.
"About what happened back in Sweet Valley High," he continued. "And I want to tell you - there's so much I want to tell you - "
"So why don't you tell me?" said Jessica hotly. The guy in front of her looked nervous.
"It's just that . . . . things weren't exactly the way they seemed when I left," said Devon slowly. "And I want to be able to make it right. I want to be able to fix things with everyone. If there's just a chance," he continued, suddenly taking both of Jessica's hands in his own, his voice rising in intensity. "A chance that someone will listen to me . . . "
What kind of a girl loves the man who left her sister to die? Jessica thought. How can you feel this way? It doesn't matter that you still love him. You have to send him away.
"I would be interested," Jessica said carefully, "in trying to listen. If," she added pointedly,"you really have something to say."
Nice job sending him away, Jessica
