"Elizabeth!" Sam sprinted toward her with his heart in his throat. Let her be OK, he prayed. He was only a hundred yards away and closing in fast, but she looked as if she were about to topple over the edge.
"Elizabeth!" Sam grabbed her tightly from behind, and she collapsed back back against his chest.
"I feel so dizzy," she murmmered, turning in arms to face him. Her beautiful blue-green eyes were dazed.
"Shhh, it's OK now," Sam said soothingly as he stroked her hair. "I've got you."
"Sam." Elizabeth rested her head against his chest and closed her eyes. "If you hadn't caught me . . . "
"But I did catch you, Elizabeth," Sam whispered. She lifted her head and looked up at him, her eyes shining with gratitude. He lowered his mouth to close the distance between them.
