"See? Chivalry isn't dead after all," Professor Louis Miles said.
Jessica's heart began to pound. Why did he have to be so gorgeous? "Chivalry may not be dead, but it's definately on sick leave," she said harshly, surprised at the sound of her own voice.
Louis's forehead wrinckled. "Oh, c'mon. You seem too young to be so bitter."
Jessica felt herself opening up, ready to tell him anything he wanted to know about her life. "I've been hurt to many times. Whenever I thought I'd found true love, it turned out there was nothing real about it. I've given up on love altogether."
"Don't do that-" he said with an urgency that caught her off guard. "The worst thing you can do is lose hope."
Their eyes locked. His green eyes stared at her with such an intensity, Jessica couldn't seem to break away. She felt as if he were drawing her down further into their swirling depths.
Does he feel it too? she wondered. Jessica's head was spinning. She wanted to believe that Professor Miles was attracted to her, but what if she was wrong? She had to find out. Her heart wouldn't be able to survive another break.
