Elizabeth and Jessica Wakefield are the best dancers in their ballet class. Both girls want to dance the solo in the upcoming recital. Elizabeth hates to compete with her sister but Jessica doesn't mind at all. She knows she's a better dancer than her twin. The problem is their ballet teacher. No matter what Jessica does, Madame Andre never notices her. But she's always praising Elizabeth.
It's not fair - and Jessica isn't going to settle for second best just because her twin sister is teachers pet.
Elizabeth could hardly wait to tell her mother the news/ "Mom, it's getting exciting! Madame Andre told us about the audition next Saturday for the recital. Isn't it exciting, Jessica?"
"How could it be exciting or me?" Jessica retorted. "Madame Andre doesn't like me. She only likes you."
"That's not true," said Elizabeth.
"It is so, and you know it!" cried Jessica angrily. "Madame never even looks at me."
Elizabeth looked shocked. "Jessica, you're wrong. Madame Andre knows what a wonderful dancer you are."
"I'm sure that's true," said Mrs. Wakefield. "You're both such good dancers. Madame Andre must be thrilled to have the two of you in her class."
Jessica didn't answer. It was bad enough that Elizabeth was teacher's pet. Now her own mother was taking sides against her!
