The entire sixth grade is going cave exploring - splunking! At first, Elizabeth is thrilled to roam through the Ice Cave with her friends. The cave is beautiful - it shimmers with every beam of their flashlights, and Elizabeth even discovers an underground waterfall! But when the guide breaks his leg, it looks like the sixth graders are in for a bigger adventure than they counted on. Will they find their way out of the twisted underground maze? And can they do it in time to save their injured guide?

Earthquake!

Elizabeth dashed toward the end of the bridge, but it' wild tilting sent her reeling back. She took a deep breath to steady herself and lunged forward again. But five feet from the end of the bridge Elizabeth saw something that made her stomach lurch. The support poles were coming loose. Without them the bridge would fall. She took a hesitant step forward and screamed as the ground gave another violent heave and the earth around the poles crumbled away. She felt as if she were suspended in midair for a moment as the bridge dropped out from under her.
Desperately she reached out, and her fingers made contact with the rocky ledge in front of her. Her legs dangled over the crevasse. She didn't know how long she could hold on . . .
