I never wanted a boyfriend. I'm all about freedom, excitement, the unknown.
I'm all about not getting hurt.
But now I've screwed up big time.
I've fallen for Jeremy Aames. Hard.
And I have a feeling the not-getting-hurt thing is out the window.
"So," Daniel said, "you and Jeremy must be getting pretty serious if you were willing to give up an extra hour of sleep just to surprise him."
Jade stiffened, wondering why everyone suddenly had to use that word - serious.
"We're not getting serious," she insisted.
What was wrong with her? Since when did she care what other people thought, especially a guy she hardly knew and had only worked with for, like, two seconds? Since never, she told herself, exhaling sharply and giving Daniel a quick wave before turning to leave.
Sure, Jade had bought Jeremy a present, and she had gotten up extra early to deliver it - which was totally against her nature - but half the reason she had done it in the first place was because she knew how uptight Jessica would get when she saw Jeremy unwrapping the adorable, tiny stuffed dog with the little thank-you heart Jade had stuck to one of it's ears. Not exactly the motive of a devoted girlfriend.
So what if she actually enjoyed doing something nice for Jeremy? He was a nice guy, and she liked him. That's all there was to it. Daniel could believe whatever he wanted.
