a simple yo-yo
bought in a twenty-five cent machine
that's all i am to you
wrapped in one of those plastic
comforting containers
i was here as quick as a quarter in a machine
one twist, i was yours
you wrapped the string around your finger
and tied the knot, just a pinch too tight
you said you liked the way
i clung too tight
and you said you loved me
which was ecstasy to my deaf ears
but it didnt take long for you to see
my string was malfunctionally cut
two inches too short
no matter how fast you pushed me away
i was always right there again
you said you needed someone
who you'd be able to push miles away
and who would be a struggle to bring back
you dug in your lint filled pockets
for just one more quarter
and dug for the pretty one in the machine,
the one you hoped for all along..
the one you wanted when i fell
into your greedy hands
opening the trick door in surprise
because you got her
the one you wanted in the first place.
however you seem to have forgotten
that you tied me too tight to your life
and you wont let me let go
you wont untie me.
you seem to have forgotten how short my string was
because as soon as you
push me so far away-
dont you see how i end up right in your hand again?
i miss being the only string
tied to you.
