For the record...
Hello, I'm Dave Tellett. Thanks for visiting my site. I am an amateur musician (in the literal rather than the perjorative sense I hope) who writes, performs, records, produces songs. Working alone, at home, I thought it about time that I catalogued the stuff I've produced since 1982, when I first struck a drum and strummed a guitar in anger, aged 19 (I was a late starter).
Early on I was involved with other musicians and contributors, in a variety of inadvisedly named bands. These are listed below, with the relevant personnel, working back in time. Apologies for missing anyone out.
Guises
- Dave Tellett /Rubber Ring (1988 - present) - That's me, what I call myself now. It seems to sum me up!
- Ugly Head (1987) - Me and a vocalist and songwriter I met at Leeds Uni, called Carl Ashworth broke away from The Trainspotters (an accurate name!) and submerged ourselves in a studio and did what came naturally. This not always possible in a band situation. This was the first time I thought I could do the lot myself...
- The Trainspotters (1986) - An Indy band. Carl, myself and the guitarist, Ben Shoben wrote most of the tunes. I played bass and we played quite a few gigs in East London (great drummer called Terry something)
- The Peripherals (1985) - I hooked up with guy called Steve (bass) and his mate (gtr) to form a 'Fall' like combo with me on drums. Got selected to be on a sampler record and had a track produced by Dave Goodman, the Sex Pistols first producer!
- The Vain Pencils (1985) - A loose gathering. So loose we didn't know we were in it! Me on bass, Carl on vox and Good friend John Addis, with whom I went to school
- The Big Pond (1984) - Me (drums, ac.gtr, bass, vox) and John Addis (gtrs, keys, b.vox) recorded a bunch of songs at my parents' house in Sandhurst. Played a gig at a Jazz club in Bracknell and in Penny Lane wine bar, Liverpool
- Gauntlet Of Death (1982/83) - Spoof death -metal / disco crossover band featuring Me and Carl. Played one gig (unrecorded) in Leeds rented accomm. Ahead of our time! Mentioned in Sounds music mag!
